Күн бұрынMy new daily driver, the BMW M5, is clocking up mileage fast and has already been to the N24, around the Nurburgring, for a blast on the Autobahn and even on a road trip to Italy and back. But what are the best things about it so far? Let's stretch the legs on the motorway and see how it's going.
I collected the F90 BMW M5 from the BMW Welt in Munich just a few weeks ago, a car that's a long-term loaner from the BMW M fleet, and that video has already reached 900,000 views! It's an incredibly well equipped M5 with a great spec and it's already covered 3,000km in total from our immediate first trip to the Nurburgring for the 24H race and a parade lap of the Nordschleife, as well as heading down to Italy and back. But this is just the start, there's a lot more in store including joining BMW for the M8 GTE participating at the 24H of Le Mans, and heading back to Munich to experiment further with M xDrive, visit BMW Individual and also the plant where the M5 is actually built!
In the mean time, allow me to demonstrate just how good an Autobahn mile muncher the M5 really is, as it effortlessly glides to significant speeds with ease and comfort. Perhaps being so understated means that people don't have the same haste to move out of the way than if you're in a low-slung supercar; but that's the nature of the beast.

Back then in 2003 my dad owned new M5..It was a beast..It did 0-100 km/h in 4 seconds..Top speed 300km/h+..But he had to sell it because it's fuel economy was really bad...Not tryna look cool..Just saying that older BMW's were good too..

I've driven both an M5 and E63S. E63S is much louder and more entertaining. Presumably this means that the M5 has better sound insulation and is aiming for comfort,

Tadas Simasevicius dude, it’s about the exhausts the manufacturers offer. Any car can sound awesome with the right aftermarket exhaust.

Great to see you in Germany here Shmee! Just a quick heads up you were cruising with 100 km/h on the autbahn you can easily go 110 without a penalty due to the 10% tolerance! Cheers from Hannover!

Afaik, the tolerance is 3% over the measured speed. But clearly you cannot be certain, how exact the measurement of the speed camera ist and how exact your speedo is. But - looking at the fines - going 10kph over is certainly nothing that will get you in big trouble if in any trouble at all - I agree. And furthermore getting caught going up to 20kph over repeatedly is not considered a major offense / crime. Meaning: If you have the spare cash, you can go 20kph over (outside of cities) with rather low consequences.

I love BMW. I'm barely starting with "real life" so all I could afford was an e90. But boy, so far I'm so happy I did. They do require more maintenance but nothing too bad if you're willing to work on it yourself. Hopefully one day I can own the top of the line M5. Cheers mate!

I saw a new M550i in front of me on the road today here in the US. Sweet car! But I have to hand it to you Shmee, even with your fast cars you really do a good job of respecting the other drivers on the road and know when to go full throttle and when not to. This guy was tailgating the person in front of him and driving like a complete lunatic!

One of the best cars in the world. It's fast, but also comfortable. It's sporty, but still have lots of space. It's kinda allrounder and perfect daily driver.

the views on that video ( the collection ) shows me a lot of ppl fell for the click bait :D ( saying it's "my m5" ;p ) don't understand me wrong, i like your videos , and have watched allmost all ( missing some when i'm on vacation ) and enjoy watching them ( and hoping a lot more will keep coming :) ), just saying a lot of ppl probably thought it was fully yours ( not long term lone ) and just watch your videos when they see that you get a new car :D

Some facts, from 3rd minute Tim is driving on the A5 towards Darmstadt, there is the record for the world fastest car on public roads from the 30s or 40s from Mercedes Benz. Record is still unbeaten. And the population of Frankfurt is growing in the day to over 2.1-2.2 Million people, so the famous traffic jams are just awful.

If you feel you need to draw the attention of drivers ahead, and the mere presence of the car isn't doing it, try a long headlamp flash (three to five seconds) to give them the information that you are there.

I live not far from you and have a total of about 30 yrs in Germany. They DON’T move out of your way like they used to. Daily on my no speed limit road to work countless drivers are in the left lane driving 90-110 on empty roads!!

I've found a really straight autobahn while collecting my car. It's the A6 between Speyer and France. I've done 205kph GPS speed on my mx5 supposed to max out at 191kph... could have done a little more, maybe 210-215 but a morron decided to go on the left lane at 130... of course I was down hill going back to France.

Oh Please for heaven's sake, don't part way with that lovely British track beast especially in that color spec. Very rare and will go up in value in years to come. You certainly mack out in a super sleeper saloon like the M5. practicality all with a dose of sportiness to stretch it out on the motorway.

Buy a 3-4 year old f10 bmw m5 with competition pack, with under 20000 miles on clock, for about £35000 from a bmw approved dealer with 1 year warranty and full service history,and you get 90% of performance of this f90 at about a quarter of the price. The best kept secret bargain in the current used car market

Tim, Can you tell us if the M5 can be ordered in a lightweight configuration. Such as having ‘M’ bucket seats and other light parts. Those seats look heavy. And it would be interesting to find out on a dino the maximum bhp. Great vlogs.

Nice video again Sir. Was wondering when you were going to showcase that M5 again. Loved that M5 safety car video you did a little while back. Quick question. Are those gas prices what I think they are? Is that 1.56 per gallon or liter? Much lower there then here in the states. Is that in Euros? Just looked it up and 1.56 euros equates to 1.81 US dollars.

Impressive car, but faking the engine and exhaust sounds through the speakers kind of turns my stomach. I wonder if you can turn that off?

Hardly, you need to code it out or buy a wire harness and bypass the ASD module.

Fake engine sound? Is it fake or just a module that spread the real engine sound through the speakers? If they make a module to just spread out engine sound in the cabine through the speakers because of isolation, then it is ok! But if they make a fake sound just like a song on player, then.. thats really bad.

I thought they did this because they do so much noise isolation in the cabin but they only want to pipe the engine sound and nothing else inside the cabin... unless someone can provide some more insight otherwise.

Go and drive both and you are able to make a choice between both. The differences are so small that you can only make a choice based on your personal preferences.

Shmee150 Thank you, I’ve driven both and loved both for different reasons! I am test driving both again as you say they are both great cars! The E63 is a visceral experience that is a joy and the Estate version has real advantages as I have a young family. That being said, the ride quality was not quite as ‘wife’ happy in comfort as I was expecting! The M5 is defiantly more refined and a more complete car in my view but storage space wasn’t as great (maybe not a dealbreaker as it’s still a big car) and the driving experience was not quite as exhilarating as the E63, but I feel that I have to try the M5 again to ensure that comment is fair! Argh these hard decisions, what a tough life! 😃

Tim, I love your work in the video-department. I really do. There is, however, one thing I'd like to ask. What is up with the tablecloth shirts? Pattern shirts do not do well on camera and you would do great in a pale blue or white.
