Thank you so much for making this. I need a lot of shards to make a lot of stacks of tinted glass for a farm and I was just flying around hoping to find geodes in my world and have little luck, but after watching this video a few hours ago and following the steps I've managed to get so many more stacks just from one location alone and it's great. Even if it is a bit of AFK'ing, it's still so much faster and efficient than searching for geodes and hoping there's a decent amount of amethysts there. So thank you, thank you, thank you for making this, it helped so much

I actually prefer automatically farming them. I have found some desent ways to harvest them with pistons. The thing is with my automated system I can afk overnight or whilst I am away from home. But with a manual farm I would have to wake up every 3 hours or something to harvest them. That being said for many players a small amount is enough and manual farming is probably easier for them

Hi Silentwisperer, I made my own Amethyst Geode farm using Slime Blocks instead of a ton of pistons. It allows you to easily adjust to the sides of the Budding Amethyst and thus avoids a ton of clusters created by the pistons and redstone. I really like your approach with water to avoid breaking the actual blocks and allowing you to farm with fortune, but most manual farms eventually got replaced by automatic farms.

automation is constant, you can easily set up a clock or even detect when the crystal is fully grown through observer's and comparators, although personal harvest yields higher amounts you have to be there constantly, if you had something nearby you could be harvesting crystals, while doing other work. but i mean most people don't need that many crystals anyways, but i still don't think its fair to say automation isn't worth it simply because its more complex
@silentwisperer
@silentwisperer 2 жыл бұрын
the resources and time it takes to automate, and the rates you get from it, just are not worth it. if you don't need many crystals, then just manually harvent like 1-2 times and your set for life. no need to invest in the farm, yknow? farming is great, but geodes are designed to be bad for farming haha

Wouldn’t it be easier to fill and harvest if you tore down the basalt and made a rectangular capsule? That way you could fill the top with water and then grow kelp and the crystals would float to a smooth ceiling that makes it easy to find the crystals.

Like it shouldn't reduce the amount you get is, you can use silk touch, then you get the amethyst cluster, that you can take to the chest you store the stuff in, place it on the ground or something and then go ham with a fortune 3 and put the shards in the chest You cannot take the buds, but you can take the things that grow on them as is Might help if you get too many to fit in your inventory

I mean the reason to automate it is to get it over time without having to deal with it so you can literally set up a redstone clock in time with how long it takes a cluster to develop and only use 1 side of each bud to stop the resource cost/spaghetti redstone and get plenty over time. If you then need a huge amount in a short space of time then you can just fortune all the clusters you're not auto harvesting, seems a better solution than saying manual just because manual gets more in 1 instance. Would be like saying fortune coal blocks is better than making a wither skelli farm, of course it is, but wither skelli farm I don't have to do anything to get it, same happens in this instance.

they grow so slowly, and the redstone needed means you'll likely get like, 8 clusters automated per geode. if you want a fully afk design. whereas you can visit the geode every other day, do a full harvest, and just get mountains of the stuff haha. ofcourse you can do whatever you want tho! If you prefer manual farming for amethyst shards then that's fine, but to condescend about automation in this case is just a weird flex. Some people (like me) prefer automation regardless of the rates so that we can go work on other projects while resources are continuously being harvested.

...Imma have to automate at least 1 crystal. Just so it is always collecting. Cuz if you never use it, and you're always near it... then that ONE crystal auto farm is going to produce as much as you give it room to store vs as much as the geode can produce times drop rate. In short: ...maybe if I need to automate a axolotl breeder of some kind... the reason to do it is so it will work WHILE I do more important tasks of building better farms.

Ooh, I got lots of geodes (lush caves surround home) but 1 next to base/spider xp farm... so automation makes some sense. If I need CASH NOW, I can call 1-800-hope over to the two bigger geodes in close range. They're all over, man.

Best way I've learned to do it? Build your base underwater, near a geode. Fortune 3.

Silk touch picks should not be able to break budding amethyst blocks period. I think amethyst farming is doomed to be a terrible stressful nightmare in its current state. Sure you can't automate it, whatever, but trying to break the crystals and not the block? Not a good time. Especially if you're on console with any amount of stickdrift, or mobile... period. In those cases you're basically forced to use a wooden pick just to slightly reduce your chances of forever ruining the farm. I think they could easily fix this with a very simple change: Silk touch picks cannot break budding amethyst blocks at all. I've said this before and I will keep saying it. The intent of silk touch is to preserve the state of the block, and with budding amethyst the only way to do that is to not break it at all. At the very least, they should make it so pickaxes are not the correct tool for budding amethyst.
