Our election caravan has reached West Bengal, where the Sandeshkali row is raising the political temperature, and the BJP and Mamta Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress are set to lock horns in a fierce battle.
Newslaundry spoke to people in the capital city’s Maidan area, a popular spot for morning walkers, about elections and the poll planks. Many of them complained about corruption and a lack of jobs under the Mamata Banerjee government. For many, migration for employment seemed to be an election issue. A local said he feels he has self-sabotaged by “educating his children”, as they had to move to a different city for employment.
At the same time, most of them distanced themselves from the communal narratives of the BJP, as reflected in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent rally speeches. A local resident emphasised that in a secular nation, there is no need to differentiate between Hindus and Muslims.

BJP has little space in West Bengal. A sizable number of people this time cast on Congress left front alliance and may come back big way due to political culture. BJP is irrelevant in WB due NDA government non performace on basic need of people.and mamata lost her credibility due to alligatoon of corruption.

Your target audience is very wrong. WB does not mean Kolkata alone, people who are relaxing in Kolkata maidan cannot give you actual picture. You need to survey in different localities and different communities. And, I can guarantee that Bengal never wants BJP. We will always vote for TMC because that is the only option here. There is no leader in BJP in Bengal. The bengal BJP leader Shuvendu himself is the most corrupted ex tmc leader, jo abhi washing machine me clean ho raha hai.. And, which govt does not have corruption? And, if TMC chor hai toh BJP hai dacoits, communal, murderers, rapists.. we always prefer TMC to BJP.

Your target audience is wrong. To feel the pulse of Bengal you have to visit local market,local park, streets, lens & not in and around maidan where firstly you will get upper middle class & mostly non bengali-speaking , moreover these people seldom go to booth to cast their own vote. It would be better to send someone who speak Bengali ,interact and then translate.

Bengali s played a major role in the battle for independence. As a proud Bengali I hope Bengal will vote for our heritage and ethos. The people who are talking about not having any work or industry. They need to understand that the people who are controlling the businesses in Kolkata don't want any MNC to come and do business. They can go to any level to stop that. They provide women, money to the politicians to stop it. Imagine if they have a company which employs 100 employees and currently pays Rs. 5000/- on an average but if an MNC comes then they would have to shell out minimum 15,000/- to pay their employees. So it's a hit of Rs. 10,000/- per employee in a month. So imagine how much money they would lose. So what they do? They all create a syndicate and give money so that the outside industries doesn't come and create an Imbalance. Untill and Unless the Locals(Bengalis) don't have control on businesses Bengal can't progress...

There are only 5 cities that youngsters from middle class families can go to work: Bangalore, Gurgaon, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and Mumbai. (Go to any engineering or MBA college and see the placement reports, you will see majority students getting placed only in these cities). The job crisis is not unique to Bengal. All states - BJP and Non BJP have a crisis of Jobs. A BJP govt alone cannot bring jobs to Bengal. Bengals economy is primarily rural and dependent on agriculture and MSMEs. Most youngsters don't want to take up these jobs. Every state government is corrupt. If you go to houses of BJP leaders, you will find similar amount of cash if not more as in Trinamools. But indian voters use emotion than reason when voting, and they ultimately get the governments they deserve.
