From an aesthetic pov, Lilia has an effective and cute design and it's pretty much what you expect from this concept, but it's always the case where you can tell they held back from going all out. Making her a little more faun and inhuman would have been very interesting and add more to the concept that she wants to connect with humans, but she *isn't*. You can tell she's not "normal" from her upper half, but if you didn't see her deer body, that doesn't quite carry through, making the two halfs feel quite separate. I like that the disney princess features and doe eyes work with her character more than certain other characters, but adding more deer or nature features would have been even more effective

speaking of the leaf bikini , this is something that made me scratch my head too , there is no need for her to cover up cuz she is not meant to look sexy in the first place , i mean look at lamb (kindred) she has a clear hourglass feminine body , yet she is only covered by fur . in my eyes there is no need for that visual indicator .

Something I feel was missed when talking about Lillia and Neeko is that they have somewhat similar silhouettes around the head. It was likely just an accident, or something the artists didn't think was important, but Neeko's hair and Lillia's ears have strikingly similar shapes and angles.

Your "too dark" argument started making more sense to me once I reflected a bit on my feelings about the color story. In it's current state, Lillia's relationship to the little girl came off to me as "Lillia being a surrogate older sister and caring for the girl for a moment" which is quite wholesome. The relationship a younger-looking Lillia would have would probably feel like the older sister was a parallel to the Dreaming Tree which is a much darker moment of intimacy. It goes from sharing love and showing care to relating to the suffering based in context only.

32:00 remember that at the beggining of the game people just taunt randomly while standing still, and a player can zoom in to see these kinds of facial expressions, so these kind of facial expressions can be zoomed in while waiting for your jungle camp to spawn!

To me it seems that in the cinematic they give her bikini a metallic sheen kinda like its a sort of ironwood bark or something. It would make more sense at least to me if it were bark given it’s unflexible nature.

I would like to point out that, while you don't see it on her in-game model, Lillia has several glowing elements in her fur to make her look more out of this world or dream-like and I love that!

Well about the bellybutton. The in game model you shown its an old one they patched it, in game she has no bellybutton. I don't know tho why they didn't fix the splashart tho. (You can see it in 21:10 where you recorded much later)

I think you comments on the leaf clothing actually makes since, as she has a desire to meet humans because of their dreams, so she might have made those cloths in an attempt to replicate their clothing (and the sexiness might be an extension of that, it’s still very weird to me as well)

Lillian and neeko similarities: hair colors, flower on head, part animal, younger girl, awkward socially, and isolated in their respective forests for a long time. There's plenty to split them. But they really did try to hit a lot of the same notes.

While I agree with your argument for Lillia not being so very child-like with the story she's been given. But I still think that, design wise, the chid-like concept art was way more interesting (and not as same-y as many other champions). She could have been written in a way for that more interesting concept to fit her. But she wasn't, and that's disappointing to me.

There may never be a League of Legends 2, but games like Project L or F could, and the Riot Forge games definitly will progress the lore. Also, character stories can evolve independently of how the character is portrayed in League of Legends. Yasuo's story progressed massively in Kin of the Stained Blade. With Yone forgiving him, he could finally forgive himself and is now free to travel Runeterra. While the ending of the cinematic hinted that he goes to Bilgewater with Ahri, there is the banner for the September update, which shows Yasuo and Taliyah in Shurima. Possibly hinting that Yasuo will continue to train Taliyah (even thought I'm not sure what an airbender can teach an earthbender).

It's so absurd how the concept art for Lillia is *objectively* better than the final thing in every way, it fits her personality better, it is more original, it is more interesting... I wonder how many people in suits decided that she needed to be just a girl with two extra deer legs in order to sell better, because I'll bet you anything that it was a corporate decision. And this goes even if what you're saying about her being an young woman instead of a child holds true, because they could have just toned down the child-like features of her concept art, like making the head a bit smaller, the human part of the body a bit more slim and hell, even some breast-implied volume.

For the detailed expressions, people can zoom in with scroll wheel in game and in idle moments going close up on your animations is funny so I think it’s part having fun but also partly for the players.

Personally, the thing in lillia that most resembles neeko, and vice versa, is her ears. neeko's hair is stretched to the sides of her head, and i can't look at lillia without remembering neeko's hair, while looking to her big pointy furry ears that so happens to be really close to a semi-same hair that makes both characters very lookalike.

Before I watched your content I thought smear frames were only in drawn animation so it's honestly a joy every time so see them lol it must be every artists dream to have their work details reviewed and seen by 70k people who all are here to appreciate and think about the extra stuff they did thinking nobody would notice. To be honest it can be a good and bad thing that league characters don't always get developed. For me characters like Lillia, Neeko, Lulu, (and gwen if you include her runeterra story) currently exist in a place of magical bewilderment in my mind where I wouldn't mind if they never got any more development because the scenarios I imagine them going on in my mind are eternal and infinite in possibility and I think there is something about an unfinished story that you own in your mind that is beautiful and creative in its own way sometimes. For me they don't need to be anything more, they are simple whimsical characters that bring me joy and I find love in their interactions with the world around them. I have adored Lulu since I first started playing the game and I will adore her for decades more despite her getting basically nothing to develop her as a character, I imagine I will feel the same about Lillia. That being said I wouldn't necessarily mind if they added events for these characters as long as it does not confine their free spirited personalities to a box to make a plot happen. I think some champs do work better with stories for example Lucian, he had a captivating story and I was dying for a conclusion to it from the moment I saw him. Jinx, Vi, Ekko and Caitlyn have always clearly had a story there in Zaun and I've wanted to hear that one so badly too, we of course got that with Arcane so that itch is scratched for me but it's a shame they didn't get developed in game too because Vi especially feels like a shell of her Arcane counterpart.

I really love the disney aesthetic for her character more than I thought I would. She is a cute and loveable character, but her design is pretty lackluster. I like her color scheme, but it just looks too similar to Neeko. These two characters have nothing to do each other, so it's a little weird for them to look so alike. I also wished that she was less humanoid especially in the face. I know riot can do so much more with character designs to make them unique, but they usually just resort to sexiness to sell skins, however I understand that from a business standpoint. But riot have done great concept art that looks better than the final product that they have given us. So while I really do like Lilia's personality, her design could definitely be improved on in my opinion.

I ended up falling in love with Lillia as a champion, I never had that much fun with a new champ in League (except the rework for Fiddle with the skin Surprise Party) and my friends are quite tired of me taking her to every role possible. Althou... yeah... her design is very "safe", there's so many wonderful creatures in Ionia based on LoR card art with gorgeous designs, why don't take advantage or inspiration of that? but I will give Riot that her personality and animations are just so fun, her kit is simple and she is easy to play. In another note, when you were talking about the Disney formula couldn't stop thinking that if LoL was a Disney product probably Yone will be her prince just for their interactions alone (both cursed, 100% humans). That was sweet of Riot to do their friendship honestly.

So, I am started playing LITERALLY because of yuumi. That was because I was looking for a new game to play with my boyfriend last year. I had already kind of created a LoL account to bond with my brother who is far away but never really played it. One day a friend of mine posted an Instagram story where she took a photo of her computer screen with yuumi on it. And that was the turning point I was like "let's play LoL" to my boyfriend everyday until he finally agreed and Yuumi was one of the first characters I bought. And when I was exploring though the characters to buy, I saw Lillia. I fucking fell in love with her. She, other than yuumi, was the only 6300 BE character I bought without even having the chance to test her. And even though I am not a good player, Lillia is just my play style. She works with speed, this is her strength, and it just... It's so good to play with her imo. And I played so much with her I know all her lines in my language. And when I read her story I cried and fell even deeper for her. Idk, I just wanted to talk about how much I love Lillia. I know she is something like a disney character but idc, she's exactly what I would aim to be. And I identify with her clumsiness and I like to hop around when I want to move fast, so yeah, I love her Edit: Also I just noticed it is Lillia's fault on why I find jinx's not moving her mouth and having the same face expression at all times extremely unsettling and why I only like playing with jinx from behing.

Not a Riot animator but someone working with animations: Oftens there isn't just one single person working on a single character animation, getting facial animations can help a team to get on the same page and understand what the overall animation of the body is supposed to transmit to the viewer even if the facial animation isn't visible to them. It's time consuming but helps to visualize all the small details in body language, not only as a guideline for others working on the character but also to understand better what the outcome should be. It's often a workprocess that goes together, it's not *you're working on the facial expression first and then make the body animation*. You start with a storyboard that captures the movement of the character alongside with the facial expression and start working to apply this storyboard to the model. It is extremely hard to just get rid of the facial expressions in a storyboard because you are looking at static panels another person drew, the more facial expressions you have to look at the more you can visualize what the storyboard drawer wanted to tell you about the character. It is also hard to just work on the body language without facial expression despite having them drawing in the storyboard. If you have a quick team that has fun with a character they will implement facial expressions just to make sure they nailed the overall picture the storyboard artist wanted to show to the audience. This may fall short if you have characters who have little to now expression to begin with, for example when they are masked or are very calm in character. They put a lot of facial expressions into zoe and neeko as well, not as much as lillia I believe but they did with a lot of cheery, bouncy and curious characters because it helps envision the type of character they are portraying via animations. Having characters that are less exploring, bouncy, curious - in generally more grounded - doesn't require the same amount of detailing. It's easier to animate someone like when, in Yasuo or Shen who stands still a lot of the time or has very thoughtrhough animations, animating their face does nothing for the character nor is it necessary to envision their characteristics, where as Lillian on the other hand benefits a lot from facial expression throughout her animation process. They could reduce or delete these animations afterwards altogether but what for?

I appreciate that Riot is doing detailed animations for once - I enjoy looking for facial details and taunts in the pregame. Still crazy how some faces look creepy ingame, this is the #1 played PC game in the world lol.

Apart from all else that's amazing in this video, the animation bit is what I came for here. YES. Character animation, if not for that I would not love Lillia nearly as much as I do, even though she literally embodies all the fantasy quirks I adore. And seeing you gush over just how charming her animations are is such a treat! And I just gotta say: whoever put this much love and care into her expressions, I absolutely adore you. I know faces are not exactly something we're supposed to see up close in League, but imagine how much of a treat it would be if they were. (Of course it will never happen, so much work that doesn't give Riot profit would never become a standard, but we can always dream!)
