Point of the video; 'You've been told not to put metal in the MW, we tell you that you can, but that you really shouldn't, but you can if you want, but like, you shouldn't. So basically we spent 3m telling you that you can, almost, but actually you can't, no wait, can, but shouldn't.' Lol I'll just stick to not putting metal in xD

What I got after watching the video: _Some parts of the MW are actually metal _The shape of the metal are really mater if you want to put it in the MW _Sparks are caused by the moving electrons in the metal, which can cause fire _... --> Metal can go in the MW but it could be dangerous

What nVr meant is that people would still avoid using metal in the MW, with or without watching this video. Yes, this video was a bit educational, but the overall action that has changed was basically nothing, as people would still avoid putting metal instead of calculating 'how many sharp edges does this metal object has?'. Its also silly to put stuff which arent food in there, why would u cook your knives and forks? Only food should go in there, and as long as the food itself aint made from metal, we can be safe.

There is a sign on my microwave which says that when I want to heat up a liquid in a mug I should microwave it with a spoon in it. There's a picture of a mug filled with liquid without a spoon which is crossed and a picture of it with a spoon which isn't. I've read that it is possible for water to heat up to temperatures higher than 100 degrees Celsius without starting boil. This can cause a sudden splash of hot water, which can hurt you, when the mug is moved. By putting a spoon in the liquid you somehow prevent such an accident.

My Father put a metal spatula in a microwave oven back in 1994 and the electronic discharge transported him back to 1967. When he passed away I found this account among his papers asking me, that when the technology came around (again) to post things, to warn people of the danger.

My favorite thing to put in a microwave is a grape cut nearly in half and placed face down. The condutive juice inside each grape half forms an electric dipole, and in a microwave oven, the grape's physical size is a significant fraction of the wavelength of the micrwaves, so the distrubution of voltages and currents causes the grape's center half to quickly burst into flame (some speculate it may be plasma, but there hasn't been much research).

***** It only shows some bright sparks behind a wire mesh. You can't actually see what is going on. For example it would be better if the door was clear, or they had a camera inside, and they shot it in slow motion. Then you could see what's happening. You get a better view by leaving a fork in your own microwave than in this video, so stop acting like you're from fucking Oxford.

Carrington Not really, sticking a metal utensil in a microwave is in general always bad since we all learned what happens. Maybe you can play games with shapes and test limits, or just embrace the obvious, leave the damn utensil out its just not that big of a deal that it has to be in there
@alexcardosa8079

bigraviolees Science just explained what is going on. Who cares what was taught to you when you where a child. Its good to know why it happens and when it does not happen. Did you even watch the video. Lots of things have metal that go into the microwave its just that they are made in a way to not cause sparks. What you should have gotten out of the video is that even if you leave some metal inside it will not blow up which is how things should be taught not by fear but by rational thoughts.

@carrington9542
@carrington9542 10 жыл бұрын
bigraviolees Yes, people should TOTALLY go on believing that putting metal in a microwave will blow up your entire house. And while we're at it, let's keep telling people that microwaves are radioactive because it's so much easier than explaining the difference between long-wave radiation and short-wave radiation. That way of thinking and the fact that most people don't question it is why you have people using misinformation as "proof" on why microwaves need to be banned.

My microwave instruction manual actually tells you to put a metal spoon in liquids when you're heating them to prevent superheating them which causes sudden boiling and splatter when they're disturbed. The only caveat is that you need to keep the spoon at least 2cm from the oven walls to avoid arcing and sparks between the spoon and microwave.

Thank you for this video. My microwave has a grill which comes with a metal rack and a metal tray. I also sometimes use a stainless plate for heating food with no problem.. Although some info I found online say that if you use a metal plate, the waves won't be able to penetrate the metal, so it won't be able to heat up the food facing the plate, it will only be able to heat the food from above. Which I'm not totally sure, because I noticed that when you heat food, the first to heat up is the inside of the food, the exterior would be the last to heat up...

Just in case anyone one wants to know, you can put ferrous metals in the microwave (steel, iron). They have a high enough resistance that it won’t spark in the microwave. The metals you can’t use for example are aluminum, nickel, and definitely not copper. It’s obvious which metals have low resistance based on thing you probably already know in in life (nickel and copper is used for wiring for a reason etc) . You probably didn’t realize it but maybe you have a food cover that magnetizes you the top of your microwave( magnets are iron aka ferrous metal) Hope this helps someone

I once put an IHOP take home syrup in the microwave. It sparked and some ofthe tinfoil in the lid actually curled up. I would not have heated it up if I knew what was in it.
