802.11n vs. 801.11AC-what's the difference? Not all WiFi is not created equal. Wireless networking technologies have evolved a great deal in just a few years as the need grew for more WiFi speed and range. Each evolution offered more speed and range, yet AC takes a quantum leap forward. Upgrade to NETGEAR AC and enjoy the next generation of WiFi today.

but the family sedan can fit 4-5 people while the formula 1 can fit only 1. does that mean ac can have one person only? hMmmMMMMmMMmmMMMm?

You do know that a quantum leap would technically be the smallest leap you could possibly take...

And if you watch the video you'll see that the 3x increase of AC from N is the smallest generational increase shown in the chart (x5 x9 x3). So, are you pointing out how apt their use of the term is?

if my speed of connection is 12 Mb/s why i need speed technology 802.11 AC I Think 802.11 n is enough to hyndle 12 Mb/s connection . i think this technology made for fiber optic connection

I have an AC router and all ac devices and there is really no noticeable difference in speed and range coming from a single band N router. The speeds are only as good as your weakest link and for me thats my ISP. It's not worth the upgrade unless you have a 200+mbps connection.

Which I do! 😝 Upgrade from Netgear n600mbps to ac2600mbps. Huge difference. Peak speed on old one was 60mbps (rarely though. Almost always around 20-35mbps) but now well in excess of 200mbps on ac devices

Question: If I combined a device that already had Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n capability with an external USB that had Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n capability, would the effects be additive and improve the overall Wi-Fi capability of the device?

AC sure is better than N but there are lack of devices that support it and those routers cost really much it so there are no reason to upgrade now...

If you getting a wifi adapter. Just get the N. Why? You prob not paying for more than 150 Mbps for your provider. Also N reaches further. So if your parents network adapter went to shit and they don't have any mesh network (multiple routers) just get the n150. And yes AC routers are compatible with n adapters

I'm not sure if that's true. 2.4ghz reaches very far and the ac2600 comes with better range than the n routers. Plus it can better utilize the speed with 200-400mbps. I say that coming from an n600 router. The ac2600 on 2.4n and ac 5ghz I'd much better all around for speed and speed

Does having AC better than wireless N even matter when you're internet speeds are under 5mbps like mine? Mountain internet over here ;p

If the router has AC, the file transmission speed between a network storage NAS and a PC will benefit. For webbrowsing, the improvement will be more subtle even if you had 100 mbps

Still in 2023, many low-end smartphones or tablets only have N or AC and smart home devices usually have only N

Down-voted because this doesn't actually explain the difference other than mentioning beam forming.
