My first trekking info video view. My wife used to say we must go trekking etc. Me being a lawyer needs to first define the word then ascertain rules then do. Great start you have given us uncle.happy journeys

I'm starting to lean towards doing treks as trail runs. Although a little more risky regarding the lack of survival gear... tent etc you make up with speed and significantly reduced weight load on the body.

I'm definitely a trekker, I did the TMB in 2019 and it was amazing. Last year I wanted to do GR20 but had to cancel sadly. This year I'm staying UK based and doing the Snowdonia slate trail in a few weeks. Looking forward if like to do EBC and Tahoe rim trail soon

Here in the states, we probably do thru hikes, but they might be called trekking elsewhere… though they are on established paths, and even roads, and even often entailing taking “zeroes” off trail, and staying in hostels or hotels… they are long distance treks. So though a thru hike is differentiated by the use of the term “thru”, it looks like it could be also called thru trekking, it seems to me.

Is trekking is the same term with backpacking, or not?
@Alpenwild
@Alpenwild 3 жыл бұрын
Great question--Backpacking differs from trekking in that you’re carrying all your gear and supplies for your entire trip with you on your back. Whereas in trekking, that gear is often carried by pack animals or porters. On all of our small-group guided treks, we’re also shuttling your luggage so you can travel light and worry-free. Backpacking as we know it in the US is rare in the Alps. In Switzerland, backcountry camping is prohibited, but there are hundreds of huts and mountain inns where you can stay, so you don’t have to carry a tent, sleeping bag, food, or camp kitchen-It’s all provided at the huts, along with a hot shower and great mountain views.

Does Trekking involve activities like rappelling, river crossing, rock climbing?
@Alpenwild
@Alpenwild 2 ай бұрын
Generally, not. Those kinds of activities would push trekkers more into the climbing and adventure sports area. They would also require protection, such as ropes, helmets, life vests, etc.

Y'all telling me I've been calling trekking hiking this entire time?? I've been walking for 15 miles every other week just casually and I thought that everybody did it. Apparently not everybody likes to walk for 10 miles straight every other day. 😂
