You got a few small yet important details wrong in connection to The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints (Mormon), though there are a few very different groups called Mormons. First off, Joseph Smith Jr. wasn't told by God the Father nor Jesus Christ to find Golden Plates, that was a few years later by the Angel of God named Moroni. Joseph Smith Jr. did not write The Book Of Mormon, or even dictate it, he dictated the translation from the Golden Plates that God gave him power to understand. And it wasn't his friends with Joseph Smith Jr. who practiced polygamy, like Abraham, Jacob, Moses and David under the permission and guidance of God, only those called by God could practice polygamy in this church, and were free to refuse like any other calling. During the 50 years or so that polygamy was practiced, only 5% of men, and 25-50% of women were involved. Anyone practicing without being commanded by God were Excommunicated from the church if they didn't repent. Joseph Smith Jr. only took on political positions as needed, until his run for President, campaigning to end Slavery, the first religious leader in America to publicly do so. "Mormons" settled most of the Western United States of America.

It is the only one where the first presidency in quorum of the 12 apostles meet weekly. So I would pretty much say that would make it the "Main" temple. I understand what you're saying in that they claim that each temple resides The ability to perform the same ordinances and has the same authority to do so, yet with I believe only one other Temple having a holy of holies, and it being the only one that all the leaders meet in on the constant basis, I would call it the main one. But just my opinion

@@calvo1002I’m not sure if such a thing is. In function at least. Catholics have the St Peter’s Basilica in Rome f.e., which is significant, but in function or ecclesial hierarchy it’s not different from any other basilica in the world. Just that it’s the most iconic+where the pope lives. Same with the Salt Lake City Temple.

The Salt Lake Temple is actually the "main" Temple in the sense that it is the only one that has a "Holy of Holies", is the only one where live endowment sessions are preformed, and the only one where the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve meet. It was also, for a time, the only place where Second Anointings were performed.

Yes, that's a common 'reason' people within the Church of Jesus Christ can hold - but it is something of an old wives tale. To quote Elder Renlund: "Very little has been revealed about Mother in Heaven, but what we do know is summarized in a gospel topic found in our Gospel Library application. Once you have read what is there, you will know everything that I know about the subject. I wish I knew more. You too may still have questions and want to find more answers. Seeking greater understanding is an important part of our spiritual development, but please be cautious. Reason cannot replace revelation." Hope that helps! I find the Gospel to make a lot of sense, so if you want to talk out any other issues you see I'd be happy to. Either way, have a good one!

At time stamp 21:50 minutes the children sing about going to Bethel. The children sing happily, the music is upbeat, and it is called the happiest time they had. Of course, it is the only non preaching vacation a JW family will ever have. For JWs, even if they can afford a vacation, which most can’t because they are suppose to live “modestly”, giving all they can to the organization, they are required or requested to check in to the local congregation in the area they go to,so they can continue with the weekly meetings and preaching work which is to maintain their good standing in the organization. They are never able to get off the hamster wheel, which is a control measure for these high control cults.

The thing active members of LDS should keep in mind: There's Two histories in the Mormon Church. There's the "official history" that the modern day leaders put out in their teachings, books, videos, etc. AND THEN there's the true history of events. Only in the past 20 years has the "official church history" started to include yesterday's anti-mormon lies such polygamy, Adam-God Doctrine, Racism, etc. So when active members come on comment boards and say "Well, you got most correct" You have to ask, is the active member only referring to the modern "official narrative" put out by the church? Non members will often look at what the current historic record shows which has conflicts in the official history. So I'd be interest in what this commenter means when they say "Accurate in most places" and give us some example found in this video.

I think this is overall not an unfair representation of the LDS faith. What I think is a much bigger difference between JW and LDS (at least in my understanding) is how members of both groups interact with the world and especially former members. There is a thirst among LDS for friendship with people who are different that just isn't found anywhere in JW. And shunning isn't really a thing. The fact that probably more than half of LDS members don't attend (at least not often) and there is no real expectation of something bad happening to them eternally is quite a bit more in line with the view of mainline Christian churches than it is with JW

An interesting combo. Both are non-Trinitarian, Christian-inspired religions, but their respective non-Trinitarian theologies are about as contrarian as can be. JWs are monotheists who reject the divinity of Christ and deny the Holy Spirit personhood. LDS are polytheists who believe that Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three seperate deities, and that even the Holy Spirit has a body.

Fantastic video, I grew up LDS (Mormon) and can see you did a lot of studying to get your facts accurate. the only thing I would say is in regards to the leaders of the LDS church. they see themselves as human and make mistakes often. not a lot of people think that they are infallible there are a few weirdos that believe they are mistake less but that is very few. other then that Ima subscribe because you did a fantastic job explaining a unique religious culture without bashing or degrading.

The distinct similarity is their insistence on strict adherence to the organization of the church. It’s one’s practice of ritualistic behaviors and traditions that keeps them connected to God and hopeful for the afterlife. Neither can profess an assurance of their salvation as they don’t or won’t know if their works and behaviors will merit His favor.

Really? Jodi Arias became baptized LDS with the hope that Travis would marry her. He did have sex with her outside of marriage which forbidden in the Bible. How about you pick up a book that is not bashing a religion you know nothing about. There’s also a website you can visit that visit that for accurate information. I know many JW’s and their faith is nothing like LDS faith. The only 2 similarities is non-trinitarian and we spread the world of Gid from knocking on doors. It is stated in the Bible that we must spread the gospel of Our Lord and Jesus Christ. We are not controlled, manipulated,and have a very normal life minus alcohol, smoking etc. I can’t watch much more.🤮

@Plasma_Snake yes. Many non-LDS people live in SLC itself and in many of the cities. Provo is basically all LDS but ranks as the happiest city in America. Nobody will bother you if you’re not LDS. Your neighbors just might be super nice if they are LDS. There’s no pressure to convert. There is Starbucks, restaurants and bars that serve alcohol and lots of things to do. I only have one family member out of my rather large family that lives in Utah. Most live east of the Mississippi River and prefer it that way.
@aspenenglish4976
@aspenenglish4976 2 ай бұрын
@Plasma_Snake 50% of SLC is not LDS. You would be welcomed into the community just like any other person. There are churches on every corner but it wouldn’t have anything to do with you. You’d just have your own life like any other person. Many people moved in from California due to housing prices. They weren’t and are not LDS. There are churches and other religions all over Utah including Hindus and Muslims. It’s just like anywhere else, be nice to them and they’ll be nice to you. You cannot be nice to them and most likely, they’ll still be nice to you. If you’re thinking of moving their for a job opportunity or because of the mountains and so many things to do then go visit. I have a friend that’s Orthodox Jewish who moved there and loves it. It’s just a matter of your likes and dislikes in any community.

Can you make a comparison video between JWs and the Bible Students? As witnesses we were taught that we were called “Bible students” and then Rutherford changed it to “Jehovah’s Witnesses”. But that’s only HALF the story. The “Bible Students” did come from Charles Taze Russell, but they were also a group that strayed away after Russell died. The “Bible Students” were the people who didn’t like RUTHERFORD’S teachings, so today they evolved into the “Chicago bible students”, the “dawn bible students”, and so on. And these other religions from russell STILL EXIST TODAY😅 it’s like 2 million of them all over the world. And back then when the “Bible students” disconnected from Joseph Rutherford, Rutherford got mad and decided to change HIS followers names to “Jehovah’s Witnesses”, so that everyone can tell the difference between HIS followers and the people that LEFT him. He even went to the extreme to change the word “churches” into “kingdom halls” so that he can really stand out in the world.🙊

@@apokalypthoapokalypsys9573 How does any of that compare to any other religion in Christianity? How would you like your religion judged by the same measure, or are you some Atheist believing all religions are cults? Doubting the dogma is forbidden? Don't most Christians believe if you doubt Christ you go to hell? Tithing isn't enforced, but you don't get member benefits like going to the temple, I've never heard of any punishments past that. Shunning ex members? The only time i've heard of shunning is when a christian converts to Mormonism, they will be shunned for certain. Charismatic leader? Honestly most Christians say they have a hard time staying awake listening to our prophet, most pastors are more charismatic. High control environment? how is it high control saying do what the bible actually tells you? If you believe in the bible, does that make you a cult? Us vs them mentality? I've never experienced that more than being by Christians who instantly divide themselves from the church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints, won't call us Christians, won't even acknowledge we follow Jesus Christ, so that we are are divided. Have you ever, ever, had Christians try to include the doctrine of the Chruch of Jesus Christ an anyway, find anything that they believe in ever? I live a 5-minute drive from Kirtland, where the first Mormon church is located. I'm aware of at least two Kingdom Halls nearby, which take about 2-3 minutes to reach if I catch the traffic light. Interestingly, I've never come across another Mormon church in this area. I just checked, and it turns out the closest one is a 20-minute drive away, followed by another that's 30 minutes away. All I’m gonna say about the JWs out here is they could very easily be a part of our community. They are very close to our downtown and have a giant parking lot. I’m only aware of this parking lot because I’ve been picking my roommate up on Sunday mornings from work. It’s like the bright red ‘parking lot full’ sign is invisible until the last second, and when a Honda Odyssey slams their brakes on in front of me and does a Dallas dive down across traffic and down a side street. It’s just very confusing if they want us heathens to convert or if the art festival is “too worldly”.

The Christadelphians are also a Restorationist, Adventist, baptism by immersion, anti-trinitarian group. Each congregation is considered autonomous so there is no central authority. Because of this there are no standardised rules on shunning and disfellowship but shunning and ostracising definitely do happen and cause much suffering and heartache among members and ex members. Church accountability is largely lacking, allowing them to fly under the radar with issues of CSA and other abuses. Are you interested in including them in further religious comparisons?

A thing about the Bible that I appreciate very much is that the history presented in it very much aligns with the archeological records. For example, we know that many of the Kings of Israel and Judah mentioned in the Old Testament were real figures because they appear in the archeological record, just like we know who many of the Egyptian Pharaohs are. It tells us that, at the very least, the Bible really is over 2,000 years old and accurately describes the world as it was at the time it was written. None of that applies to the "Book of Mormon." To date, no archeological evidence has come forward to indicate that the Americas 2,000 years ago resembled anything like what the Book of Mormon describes. The Mormon book even speaks of "barley and wheat" being in the Americas. These are Old World crops that didn't appear in the Western Hemisphere until the Early Modern Age when the Europeans brought it over. Joseph Smith was a modern day Muhammad: a false prophet who deceived others for personal gain.
