Here's a quick video I put together for TikTok. I'm delivering Andrew Steel's 2001 Beaver Contessa to Kentucky and digured we'd find out how this 40 foot RV with a 330 hp CAT engine does with MPG. Surprisingly well i think @RVing with Andrew Steele

I just got back from a drive from Las Vegas to Disney World in Florida, I checked my gas milage 4 times during this trip. I drove mostly 60 MPH; Our RV is a Class A Disel Pusher - 2003 Bounder 39Z w/5.9 Cumming and Alison 3000 6 speed. Using AMSOIL in Diff, trans & engine, AMSOIL fuel additive and Prolong engine oil additive. Fueled up at 1/2 to 1/4 tank each of the 4 times (Didn't check every fill up) I was shocked at the MPG's I got without towing .... 15MPG, 16MPG, 17MPG, 16MPG I have been a diesel mechanic most of my life, I know a big part of the MPG was keeping MPH down and taking a mostly non-mountainous route, mostly it's the 2003 emissions our rig has, no EGR, DPF, CAT or DEF 😃

My Cummins 5.9 ISB in my 34‘ 98 HR Endeavor gets 9 - 10 mpg pulling my 4 door Jeep outside of mountains. Close to 30k lbs gcwr. Last trip in east tx hills went 495 miles on 52 gallons diesel, im very happy with that .

Hi James. 7.5 mpg isn't bad, considering I've owned vehicles and trucks from the 70's that got less....and they weren't even big, heavy RVs. Gas prices are skyrocketing, which is unfortunate. I am picking up my "new" to me 2007 HR Navigator45' w/525 Cummins in Utah and driving it home to Denver next week. Thank goodness it's not a long trip but we'll see what the gas prices in Utah and Wyoming along I-80 are. I hope you enjoyed your trip and had a safe journey to KY. Take care!

Some of the small (24ft.) diesels get up to 13-14 MPG. Some of the big diesel RV (36ft) with a Ford 650 diesel class C can get up to 12 or so MPG. I have talked to some of the 40 footer class A drivers and they say around 10 MPG. These are all newer models.

If you have to ask about mileage on a class A you can’t afford it, they need to change the limits on the credit cards so you don’t have to start and stop, Wells Fargo says it’s the stations not the credit card company

@stanleyflory6702 2 жыл бұрын
If you call inside on the phone, or speaker, and tell them you are in a MH, most of the time they will turn on the pump, and you can fill up, then go inside to pay! Saves having to do multiple charges!
@tombeilman5579
@tombeilman5579 2 жыл бұрын
@@stanleyflory6702 long story short several years ago I did two starts and only got a receipt and didn’t go in to get another receipt, 75 miles later the police pulled me over and said I didn’t pay for gas , station would not let me pay over the phone and I had to go back 75 miles to pay, I didn’t know the station turned on the pump instead of my credit card , one receipt and two charges. Since then I always get a receipt if the outside pump does not give you a receipt

We took a trip to Florida over Christmas and paid a little over $1K in fuel. We drove 1300 miles with an average fuel cost of $3.07 a gallon. That comes out to 325 miles and 4 MPG. Why so bad you ask? Ran the generator over 60 hours during the trip. Why did we run it so much? Ran it while parked at a Cracker Barrel's and truck stops for overnight stays. So when you calculate your MPG your generator will lower your MPG considerably if you have to run it for overnight stays. Our bus gets 6 mpg at 60, 5.5 at 65, and 5.0 at 70. When you are pushing 52K pounds down the road plus a 4K pound toad behind you that is what you have. I don't worry about fuel costs. If I did we wouldn't have purchased the bus. Fuel costs are small when you consider the cost of ownership from insurance, tires, batteries, chassis maintenance, and house maintenance. If you are not ready for the ride don't get on board.

My 45' Country Coach with tag, toad, and an ISM 500 gets its best mileage at 62-63 mph that varies between 7-8 mpg depending upon wind and hills. Anything below 61 mph and the Allison may not get into 6th gear, or sneak into 5th on a slight incline and mileage suffers when she won't get back into 6th and lock the torque converter. Traveling above 63 and I pay extra for the privilege.
@stanleyflory6702
@stanleyflory6702 2 жыл бұрын
If you turn on the "Mode" button, it will shift sooner, and lock the converter, and hold 6th gear to a much lower RPM! I averaged 9.2 MPG with my 8.3 in my Monaco on my last trip from the mid-west to upstate NY, up to Maine, and back, with the wind and mountains, with toad, running my 7K Power Tech diesel generator all the way for A/C! Not apples to apples, for sure, I understand, but still using the mode button sure helped me, manage the shifts, no hunting from 5th to 6th, and keeping the converter locked! Retired O/O trucker!

Without even watching the video being a truck driver. I knew 5 to 8 miles per gallon. That’ll go down depending on the weight and the hills. You can always tell when somebody over extended their income. They wanted the American dream without looking at the income first. Because when fuel prices go up you see a lot of the Big RVs parked in one spot for a very long time. That’s sad. You get into the RV world to travel and see the sights. Not to be stuck in a campsite because you can’t afford the fuel. What he showed. Take it as good advice. When you go bye you’re RV so you’re not sitting in a campsite with a smart ass camper like me going you’re still here. I figured you’d be up in Canada by now.
