Ive had my 2018 f150 2.7 for a year and 23k now. This truck is insanely fast. With 93 octane and a $40 dry performance air filter, you can hit those 5.5s 0-60 times. I've also removed the blow-off silencer so you can hear the boost dump on shifts, it really helps the lack of sound. If you have a choice, get the damn ecoboost. Reliability difference is realistically 20 or 30k miles apart. Any f150 engine will take you to 250k with regular oil changes. Are 20k miles really worth being the slowest f150 and an underperformer above sea level?

I'm getting ready to change everything over to Amsoil, already bought everything, just need to get 'er done! How much it weighs? Basically the same as the regular lariat 3.5. The regular 3.5 beats the 5.0 all the time, at sea level or altitude. The 450 hp can only be faster. It isn’t a matter of weight, because that will barely change. More hp, more torque, even wider torque band, already. Faster with the base 3.5. Physics, pure physics says it is not possible for the 5.0 to win. Especially if Ford can get their shit together and provide two loaded trucks with the same gears for once. Sorry, I have had and am getting another 5.0 next week because I love them, but the Limited will even beat the 2.7 off the line, let alone the 5.0. This one really IS just science. My favourite, hands down, is the 5.0 with the dealer added, Roush supercharger. Full warranty AND 560 + 640 hp depending on which pulls you chose for boost! I think that could still be considered “stock” seeing as it is sanctioned by Ford enough that they even warranty the truck fully with the option. THEN, the 5.0 won’t be beat again!!! BWAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAA HAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! Sorry, got carried away. I want the 5.0 to be the fastest, period. Just needs the supercharger. A friend has one and it is intoxicating how fast it is!

@@tedschmitt178 good economic sense says to try avoid purchasing a vehicle that has a total value of more than half your yearly income. The average income in the US is about 54k and the median is in the 40s. How long does it take for a pickup to reach a value on the used market that makes sense to purchase, let alone is actually affordable? The real issue is that every few years the prices have gone up with incomes not following at all. Companies push for lease deals, and we're more and more susceptible to shitty loans, even for used vehicles. It's hard to find a reliable old vehicle when you work 2 jobs, etc. The XL f150 used to be super affordable, now it costs more than half my yearly income without options and I'm constantly told I have a great paying job, etc (truck driver in NY). ThePegcitydude - I agree, unfortunately, as is said here, the manufacturers want us to see the various options. It is not TFLs fault at all here. If the manufacturers provided all the same gears, then it would eliminate the debate, to a degree, and the manufacturers don’t want that, they want us talking like this. The 5.0 with 355 gears, all 3 in 4wd (makes it fairer for the SuperDuty because of torque limiting in 2wd), the difference between all 3 would be almost impossible to determine at the end of this track and distance. If i were buying a raptor where I would be playing and the sounds it makes would be part of it, then a V8 would be important to me in that context. However, in a truck that I put 50K/year, the primary factor on exhaust to me was how loud it was inside. I don’t care what it sounds like to the car next to my tail pipe. I took two rentals on 2500 miles trips before buying. both 10 speed and 1 eco boost and 1 coyote. They both did excellent fuel mileage but the v8 was so much louder inside, the eco boost was nice and quite inside. I purchased the eco boost in significant part because of it being much quieter in the cab. Now that I own it, I can see if the conditions are right its gets insane fuel mileage. Also the ability to just “turn up” the power with my tuning gear is quite appealing.

Those prices better be Canadian dollars or something. If that's USD then idk how they're moving any trucks.

If the two F150's had the same rear ends and we're at sea level it would probably be even.

This is another classic "It won't happen to me" V6 truck. When you run a turbo on a gas engine it's a best practice to run premium fuel. Premium fuels elevated cost negates most if not all of the savings you might see from running a smaller engine with a turbo. I believe the owner's manual says a 5.0 is recommended to run on 87 or better. You would need to get 25 mpg with premium vs. 21 mpg with regular just to break even on the cost per gallon. Then there is longevity to consider, typically a non-turbo engine lasts longer than a turbo engine does and is less complicated to repair.

@johnny V Ha another classic “ but what about those turbos going out” The 2.7 was designed for turbos and are still on the road since 2011. The car engine in a truck 5.0 was just re introduced in 2018 and is failing, Burns a lot of oil and it likes to knock. But please keep buying that engine, mechanics need your money

@@paulhunter9613 I'm a Mechanic. Any naturally aspirated gas engine made with the same quality parts as a boosted variant will last longer. It's not an opinion or viewpoint to argued it's been proven for 50 years
