As a veteran, the mark of a good leader, and something that I've always tried to emulate myself, even outside of the military; is that any order or instruction you to someone, it is something that you yourself would do. Never ask an underling to do something you wouldn't do and show that to them. You will earn their respect.

Real ones will know that the most impressive part of this video isn't how the Instructor does the punishment himself with ease or how he keeps his head perfectly still. It's that he did it in fucking combat boots.

Also, that soft "Run." brought back memory of a fellow recruit being told to do push ups "Forever". The recruit dropped and went "One ever, two ever, three ever, four ever." and stood up. The DI looked at him like the one in the video and softly said "Push ups.". When the kids started counting, the DI told him "Don't bother counting.". No idea how many push ups he did, but we didn't see him until well after lights out in the barracks. Kid never mouthed off again after that though.
