Five year owner of an AZ-EQ6 and very happy with it. The heaviest load I use is a 9.25 SCT and it handles that nicely. Most nights I just put the 80ED Refractor or a 6 inch SCT on it and it is super rock solid with those light scopes. Operating mine new exclusively with the Synscan USB/Serial adapter and the Green Swamp Server software. This works flawlessly night after night.

Concerning the manual of the AZ-EQ6 mount, there's a mistake about the "RA dial" : Streakly speaking, this is not a RA dial, it is a "HA" dial (HA = Hour Angle"). If we consider it is a RA dial, we have first to target a star with a known RA, second to fix the dial accordingly, and finally move the tube to the desired object. This is a VERY UNEFFECTIVE way to find an object if you don't have a Goto system. Actually, that dial is an HOUR ANGLE dial. On page 8 of the manual, in point 3., it should read : "The R.A. dial features three different scales: the upper scale is used to indicate the HOUR ANGLE in Equatorial mode when mount is operating in the NORTHERN Hemisphere; the middle scale is used to indicate the HOUR ANGLE in Equatorial mode when operating in the SOUTHERN Hemisphere; the lower scale is used to indicate the azimuth angle when op- erating in Alt-azimuth mode." When you want to find an object knowing its RA, you have to calculate its hour angle if you know YOUR Local Sidereal Time (Hour angle = Local Sidereal Time - Right Ascension) or find it in a software (like Stellarium). Once you know its hour angle, move your scope using the Hour angle dial on the scope. And that's it ! When your tube is in the Home Position (tube pointing to the celestial pole, counterweights down), the hour angle dial should show "06h" (on the upper scale) or "18h" (on the middle scale). When the index is between 0h and 12h, and if your tube points West, the index shows the correct hour angle. When the index is between 0h and 12h, and if your tube points East, add 12h to the index to have to correct hour angle. (Moving your tube pass the celestial pole adds or substract 12h to the hour angle). Knowing what the hour angle is and why it is used by professionnal will make your life easier, especially if you don't have a Goto system. I use those scales as Hour Angle scales and it works perfectly and, once placed correctly that dial should never be moved again. The ideal should be a scale engraved in the mount ! Could Skywatcher do that ?

It would be nice to be able to slew the axes manually and accurately with a simple knob : occassionaly, for simple visual sessions, we don't need the mount to be powered... Do manual knobs currently exist to do that ? Is that possible to do ?

Any plans from Sky Watcher to produce Harmonic Drive Mounts, like Rainbow Astro, Hobym Crux, ZWO, etc?

Hi folks, is there any chance that you have the AZ- EQ6 with the USB port in Stock? If so I might change my order to it instead. Unless you have a better option in this load and accuracy class that would be comparable. Also, is there another better mount in the AZ-EQ6 Pro price range that would better suit my needs? I have several telescopes including my lightest, SVbony SV550 Triplet APO with camera rig and star tracking 60mm guide scope, upto my heaviest the Meade LX200 10" SCT (with powered focuser, guide scope, ,etc. That I sometimes mount my Canon camera on. Either the EQ6 Ri Pro or the AZ-EQ6 Pro would fit the bill. I notice you also have the CEM40 and others. I usually setup in my yard and lea e the telescopes and mount out for several nights in a row, but I do break them down and move them inside often. I also bring them to star parties.
