this is my favorite episode, the boy is so eloquent, the mother is actually wise and so loving, and the father really is loving in his own way and you can see he really wants to communicate more with her. "We should leave him alone. He's just a little kiddo. Everyone shouldn't be pointing finger at him just because his hair is long. Look how adorable he is. Let's just let him keep his long hair" What a beautiful scenery, where everyone minds their own business. Now before you all point fingers at me, I have nothing against this child. It's only right that people leave him and his long hair alone. No matter his hair is long or short or curly, it's nobody's business. Also, it's great and impressive of him to grow his hair to help others. He's been raised well. Now hear me out, a long time ago, I once watched a concern on this program, a mother was worried about her adult son's long hair, saying he should have it cut and everyone in the studio agreed. "His long hair doesn't look pretty on him. He looks like a f---ing gangster. Why doesn't he have it cut?" ^ This is not what they actually said. I just interpret their reaction and conclude the situation. Double standard much? Since when did you lose your right to grow your hair if you become a grown ass adult? Why couldn't you just leave this man alone? Or were you being hard on him because he's a rough-looking adult compared to a cute little kiddo? Apparently, the man isn't growing his hair to help people, so he lost the right to do whatever he wants with his hair I swear... typical South Korea, you really can't get away with anything if you aren't "beautiful"

I get the feeling that it was more of the image he looked and how his mom was embarrassed by it It's a bit weird, but the audience here in this video found the boy in having a justified reason for not cutting his hair: helping others. But as for the other case, the son was more or less unemployed, lacking in making his own decisions (although, it's really his moms fault for that) and thus, he was treated more harshly for being seen as a "whiny son who didnt want to cut his hair" And to people, I'm assuming they also judged him for how unkempt his hair was, compared to the boy here, where it "looks" healthy and even "clean" Just depends on the perspective, and clearly, many Koreans are either far right or left when it comes to issues like this

They’re such a soft-hearted family. The father is timid and I think because of the trauma that his wife experienced during her pregnancy, he doesn’t want to push her or argue with her so he just lets her do as she wishes. She’s raising her child much in the same way I want to raise my future child/children but she must communicate with her husband. Communication is the problem here not Hayul’s long hair. Like the hosts said “if you raise a child with happy parents, they’ll grow up happy”. Hayul is just the cutest! He’s so adorable and well spoken, I doubt he’ll have any issues with speaking up for himself when he’s older so the dad doesn’t have to worry. What he needs to do is start checking people who look at his son weird or want to touch his privates...this is an aspect of Korean culture I completely do not understand.

He only thought about the trauma after it was brought up on the show. Before, it seemed like he just wanted the wife to take care of everything *and* do what he and relatives wanted. Can't have your cake and gobble it up too, buddy.

the mum wishes the best for the child, I’m glad that she’s doing that. For the mum, doing things unconventionally will help hayul be happy. However, the dad also clearly wishes the best for the child, but for him, doing things ordinarily is a better option for hayul to be happy. They parents seem like good people, just tired by the lack of communication. You can tell that the mum also got embarrassed that she didn’t tell her Husband about many things. Communication is really the number one thing in a relationship, I hope both of them, not just the dad, open up to each other and are able to negotiate with other another, and let hayul truly explores a variety of things to see what really makes him happy. Wishing them well

My thoughts on this: 1. The mother needs to stop raising the son on her own and stop avoiding fights with her husbands. He's the father all, they're married (I assume) and it's his son, he deserves having a say when it comes to his son too. I'm not just talking about the hair, but the way the son is being raised. 2. Having long hair isn't a problem, the main problem here is how the son is raised completely on her beliefs. I still think she's a great mom, but she needs to learn to face consequences more. 3. Koreans seem to have a problem with old perverts and little boys genitals... disgusting and very outdated.

I completely agree with this it was infuriating to see how one sided the parenting was. And yes it's great that she wants to do what's best for her son but his father has to also be a part of it and they have to instill love and respect for both parents not only one.

i agree about needing to parent together, but the dad seems to be pretty un-involved anyway, like if he noticed his sons hair was getting longer over 4 months, why did he not just go get it cut then, does he just expect his wife to do it?? and when the family members were rude to his son, why scream at his wife about it, who doesn't defend their son...? and why did no conversation about donating his hair take place between the son and dad over such a long period of time, at his age if something (often anything) happens, at school, with an imaginary friend, kids normally don't stop talking about it and will tell you about it multiple times. The wife seems to do the most work/school/learning with the son, but then the dad gets upset when the son relies on the mum more?? the dad needs to take more time to learn about his own kid and the mother needs to talk more to her husband about what she is doing. but if they watch documentaries together and the son asked how he could help and they came up with the hair thing, this shouldn't be a problem, ever I know that a lot of Koreans can have a very traditional view on raising their kids, and the main problem i see (the husband is doing it) is that kids are treated like property, even how they talk about the kid in front of him, instead of saying his name they say 'your' son and 'my' son, also, group mentality which is common in Korea, means that if a few people tell you something is weird then it is and you should change it or if everyone is doing it you should too (the father is too worried about what other think than what his own son thinks), but now with a more modern/younger generation coming through a lot of this is being disregarded. The dads seems to be a traditional person and the mother more open, don't get me wrong both are at fault for the lack of communication, but i think the father needs to grow up and listen to his wife more (if that kid is how he turned out being raised with more of the mothers values, then i think she is doing right, but i think she still needs to take a couple steps back from the son)...

I'm just reminded of the episode about that one 30 year old man who had long hair and his mum came because she thought it was a major concern. She literally stopped talking to him just because she felt embarrassed and angry at how long his hair was. And honestly he didn't even look that bad. She was so much more concerned about his long hair than about the fact that he was still unemployed and unmarried. One of the idols that was there gave the shittiest and dumbest reason for him to cut his hair, it made me so mad and confused as to how she could even come up with such a dumb reason like that. In the end the hosts just convinced the guy to cut his hair, despite him trying to tell them that it was a part of who he was and that the reason he started in the first place was to protest against the rules in his old workplace that said men were not allowed to have long hair. That episode made me so mad and this in addition to that just shows how narrow-minded Korea still is, despite it having improved in some aspects,

"Lack of communication" is the main reason. It could not be denied that the mother is doing a really good job in raising her child to be a kind people who is willing to help people in need although many people complain that she brainwashed her child. I agree that it's brainwashing, yet it's how it works for kids to grow up! Children are fast learners and they learn from what they see and hear. If the purpose is to grow a kind kid, I don't see any harms of it. If you said it limits the kid's self-thinking ability, I don't think so because while he grows older, he is going to school and meet many different types of people, at this moment only is the time for this kid to develop more and more his self-thinking ability. Another thing which the mother does well is, she is also bringing her kid to join all of the classes which allow the kid to socialize with other people at his age while she is doing home schooling. This proves that she is making a good effort in balancing the disadvantage of homeschooling. For the father, while he complains about his son was having long hairs before summer and he kept asking his wife to get the son a hair cut. I wonder “you had so many months to bring your son to have a hair cut by yourself, why didn't you do so???” don't say that you work and earn money, so you have no time to bring your kid to have hair cut. How about weekends? Instead of asking your wife for not taking the son to hair cut for months, you could actually bring your son to hair cut by yourself, do you know? It could be seen at the end that both of the parents love their son very much. Yet the father should try to participate more in raising the child (e.g. take the son to hair cut by yourself instead of spending months to ask you wife doing it) and also have more discussions with wife regarding child raising issue then your ideas or your preferred ways to raise your son could be applied in future to. If you don't communicate with your wife, of course your wife would assume that you have no opinion and then she raises the kid in her own way. Communication is the best way to find a balance between father's and mother's ways in raising a child. You should not complain about your wife's way of raising child if it's yourself who doesn't want to put efforts in participating the process.

He’s such a angel...I realize I’m making wrong choice for my baby brother who have long hair on back-side. I kept telling my parent to cut my baby brother’s hair because people saying he looking like a cute doll that would taken. My baby brother may be so spoiled by my parent but at someway he’s sweet and comfort us when we cries... All I hope is the little boy can help people and keep his path peace without getting cruel judgement. ❤️

okay so i think the mom should talk to the dad but like the dad is an average traditional korean man so i get why she hides things from him. it seems both parents have good intentions just different ways to raise a child. they need to find a middle ground. the only thing i'd criticize the dad for would be that he expects his son to cut his hair instead of telling others to stop being perverts (he should be defending his son who is a victim) or thinking that long hair might make him question his gender (or sexuality) bc i dont think theres really a correlation. other than that, i wish the best for them. also a comment id like to add is that the son is compassionate and well-spoken bc of his mother's education:)

Awwww, my heart swells of warmth watching this, it's obvious they love each other so much, but the lack of communication drove them apart, they could only see the difference between how each want to raise their son, and forgot about their love in the process. I am so happy to see they realize how much they love each other through this, I started crying when the wife teared up, and smiling while crying when the husband cried as well. Oh and their son though, such a sweet little angel. I wish them eternal happiness, and may they continue to build their family with love and care. God bless them.

people need to stop with the "men should have short hair, girls should have long hair" tradition- it's already 2019, let people do whatever they want to do. honestly tho, it's really sad to see how constricting it is in south korea where people cannot even act on their own personal freedoms without being judged, despite being a first world country.

What's interesting is that it was the norm for everyone to have long, cascading hair in ancient/old Korea! Actors will get wigs or extensions for historical dramas and everyone swoons over the main character but outside of television it doesn't seem acceptable in South Korea anymore for some reason :/ I wonder when the change happened and if it was from Western influence back in the day?

@@Youngnrrwhtjwtjetk Nope, I'm from an entirely different country (Portugal) and older men here, even older women, still find it quite weird whenever they see a man/boy with long hair, and Portugal is a country that keeps up with times. They're just not vocal about it because it's a different culture. I'm 28 years old and people back then thought the same, even I did while growing up, but I just kept up with the times and don't mind. There are male Korean idols with longer hair than usual and people like it. Male idols with a mullet is actually trending in Korea right now, actually. It's just older people and their old views of the world as per usual, which manifest in various forms around the world.

@@theashmaster1000 I know. I'm talking about this case. The mother said young people were fine with it, but the older people were the ones who teased the boy. It's not as if everyone who looked at the boy did the same thing, so judging a whole country based on this case still doesn't make sense. What does that make of the people who are fine with boys/guys with long hair? Generalizing a country isn't smart.

This is what’s wrong about the korean’s society, they tend to disregard diversity and demand people to follow the norms and are way too traditional, I mean I know its a part of them but can’t they just really, at the very least, learn to respect the decision of an individual and stop meddling with their lives? Like why would you even have to touch someone else’s private part just to satisfy your own curiosity and ignorance? And this little kid is really such an angel. Its very rare to see kids like him specially in the current generation. I’m so proud of him. He really is a treasure. Also, I think both of his parents are a really good people, its just that they have been fighting that it ended up hurting one another and decided to just make decisions without asking the other to avoid it, which is nice if its a way for their kid to not see them fighting, but also has a negative effect which separates the mon and dad, they both have a point and they have to come up with a better idea to be able to meet in the middle. I love his mom but maybe she could at least, step down a little and realize that the dad is also a part of their kids lot and his opinion also matters.

My son had very long hair by his own choice as a child and was often mistaken for a girl. It annoyed him for a bit but he got used to it. He'd just roll his eyes and say "I'm a boy" and walk away lol. I told him that it's nothing to be ashamed of. If he wants his hair long then he will have it long and never mind what all the busybodies have to say about it. At one point it got him bullied at school and he came home and asked for a hair cut. I told him to wait and think about it until the weekend and if he still wanted it we would go to the salon to cut it. He DID get it cut, but he hated it short and ended up growing it back out again lol. He has hair to the middle of his back until recently. He had to cut it because it was damaged at the bottom but he is busily growing it back out again lol. He's in his 20's now so he doesn't get all the looks he used to and is rarely mistaken for a girl any more. In fact the girls seem to follow him around alot...I feel like I should be worried about THAT more lol.

The dad is being dumb. Either way, his reasons for not wanting his son’s hair is so stupid. “Ion wanna him to be confused about his identity.” He’s 6. He’ll figure out who he is just fine. What he needs to worry about is telling his nosy ass family members to mind their business and the strange pedophiles touching his son. Not his wife.

yoongi's hoe I agree that some of the reasons for cutting the hair is bad, and I’m not saying that the mother is totally in the wrong, but the dad has more than one reason, he said that random men are looking at his son’s private parts to check if it’s a son when they’re at public bathrooms etc. The son also said it himself, that he doesn’t like it when grown up women touch his PeePee to check on him. I understand that the mother tries to make his son fight for what he means is right and that’s a good thing, but she is totally ignoring the fathers opinion, which isn’t good.
@zaria135

Kristiane grr That’s what I said. Something is wrong with those men/women who are touching and watching the son that’s not the mom’s fault. Those adults need to be reported and imprisoned for touching a kid because at the end of the day he’s a kid. They have to understand boundaries. Nothing is wrong with the mom growing her son’s hair. I agree, she should include the dad into more decision making but the dad is worrying about trivial things. He’s paranoid that his son isn’t really happy in life. It doesn’t take much to make a toddler happy. All they need is happy parents and they’re happy too.
@kristianegrr9505

yoongi's hoe I agree almost completely, I also think that the mother is being way too overprotective over the child. She won’t let him go out of the house unless she is coming with him, she suddenly and randomly goes on trips without telling the dad. It’s good that she wants her child to be healthy and have a good childhood but not letting him go to normal kindergarten (or school or what it was he was supposed to go to) and not letting him eat out with other friends is too much. Especially if his father wanted the son to do all of that. I think the dad is bad with all of his unnecessary worrying and irrational thinking but I think the mother is even worse in some aspects.
@zaria135

Kristiane grr homeschool is totally fine tho? He is being educated at home and the kid is also getting vital commutative skills by interacting with people he meets at his other activities like swimming lessons. So what’s the issue? Nothing is wrong with what she is doing. She allows her son individuality and independence but he’s 6. He can’t get that much freedom. She’s doing enough. The kid’s hair will cut eventually and life would be fine.
