Thank You Pam for showing alternatives of how to work with dahlias, so I don't give up with the challenges, and for the real life solutions, as well as tips for cost saving, up-cycling. So much helpful "behind the scenes" information, that isn't always apparent to the final result of beautiful dahlias.

Dahlias can be more work than many want to invest but they can be so worth it. I was going to give up on them for this year but when many of mine overwintered so well in the pots I thought why not give them another year. I am finding spots in the garden where I have not had dahlias before so the infection won't spread to these.

i just got out of the garden and took cuttings of my dahlias, tomatoes, coleus and potato vine for the first time! Will you be doing an updated video on when these when you plan to plant them in the garden?

It must be a thing with the hens as I had to check mine yesterday because they sounded like a flock of geese 😅. My husband thought they were fighting over their favorite laying box. They were all huddled in the shade corner outside except one she was staring at a laying box. The 4 roosters-the patrolman 😅 were all gathered outside as they free range and I think they were joining in on the ruckus. Maybe it was choir practice 😂. We put shade fabric up later as the heat will kick in this weekend. No idea what caused the squawking but it quit. Hmm, a hen that picks at eggs isn’t good and not sure of remedy. Dahlias-love them/hate them. I grew some from seed last year as I’ve never had them before and wintered over and planted straight out. I find the whole digging, pre potting ect. Too much work for these basic varieties. Maybe if I had some that I really liked I could see it, but I may just leave these in the ground this year. And now you mentioned something I never knew about and it can affect roses-I’m out! Love my carefree roses Way more than any dahlia. Thanks for the heads up.

I love my roses more too and why I am not really worried about buying more dahlias though I do love them. I am glad my experiment worked but for me zinnias are so similar and so much less stressful that I think they will fit the bill in my garden. Though I have been known to change my mind.

Dahlias are so beautiful but I just haven't decided to go to the trouble yet. My cottage garden is still pretty young so my focus is still on year round interest and germinating for the dry shade areas. The only time my hens are vocal is when they want food and it's the most OBNOXIOUS squall ever. For anyone thinking about hens, DON'T get leghorns. Especially if you want to free range. They're the most destructive chicken I've ever had. I didn't know better and beggars can't be choosers in that I don't drive and have to accept whatever birds a seller is willing to bring me. But I think I know now why they were selling them.
