Do a budget rebuild using parts left over from other builds. Show that not all rebuilds need to cost a fortune and that with experience and good judgment parts can be reused. Cheers

Since you're rolling over the motor to do the compression test, why didn't you just run a compression test using vcds? It kills the fuel pump and does a test recording all the cylinder pressures. 😉

Gday guys, I love watching and really appreciate the tips you pass on. I’m a VCDS novice, learning all the time as I service my wife’s Q7 and daughter’s Tiguan. My VCDS has paid for itself many times over. Audi here wanted $40k to fix my wife’s car and so they wanted to make it a technical write off. It was a VERY steep learning curve, but I fixed it myself for about 1k in parts. A lot of time, but I loved the technical aspect of it all. The “old leaking coolant valve on the trans heat exchanger issue”. The loom gets pressurised with coolant. Lots of spurious “unrelated” codes. I’ll keep my opinions on Audi Technicians at the stealerships to myself. 😁 Anyway, just wanted to say that the advice and knowledge you share Rick is really really appreciated by people like me. Great content and channel. Interested to see the repair. If you end up breaking down the bottom end, is re using the mains / big ends a consideration? I would have thought replacing for new would be the only option..? Cheers

Hi Ricky, I'm in the process of building a beefed up 4.0l for my 765. I've got Darton sleeves in ductile iron with thicker walls. My question for you is, when it comes to con rods, do you prefer the "H" beams or the "X" beams from Pauter (cost isn't a factor)? I'd love to hear your opinion on this. I'm also speaking with a cam manufacturer to make billet camshafts.

Nice new car Rik. Those wheels are beautiful. Leave them as is. Fix the car enjoy & move on. Better things await you Sir. Looking at the camera shots the piston looks ok. Probably just the valve problem to sort out.

The irony is I sent an email just the other day about broken valve springs. Is this an issue that's starting to become more prevalent, and if so is it a bad run of springs or is it idiots bouncing off the limiter? Would you recommend just buying up-rated valve springs as a preventative measure? Looking forward to this one, Rick, great video! Also turbo it. You know you're going to anyway, just get it over with.

The Lambo forum I'm on doesn't seem to have any on the Huracans, the R8 forum I've seen has two or three instances of broken valve springs, some on very low mileage engines. The argument is whether or not it's a batch of bad springs affecting the 2017s in particular or if it's idiots bouncing off the limiter in neutral.

I think if Rick plans to keep the car for personal use he should repair it to meet his personal needs maybe a budget build and content creation. If the car is just for content creation then get sponsors involved in the video for their products, do a SEMA build and do a MA style raffle to recoup the cost (have the former owner draw the ticket) and then pocket the monetary creator money with a smile. Grow viewership, grow business make sure its a win win.... Hey Matt might want to buy a ticket seems his Lambo went in a ditch :(

No the circle in the centre and the letter underneath is actually a casting mark. If the valve had hit the piston you would have a “clean, section in the 2/4/8 or 10 o clock position.

@@REPerformanceUK ah ok, i was looking more towards the half way point between the circle and the letter than move to the left right above the exhaust valve cut out on the piston there is a 1/4 mark that looks like a nip from the valve? 26:24 gives you a better view although its hard to see on a phone there looks to be a shiny mark?

So second hand story here if this is the same lambo (not sure on all details) from what ive heard the misfire came shortly after taking delivery, went to a specialist who put new coils on one bank, was apparently fine for another short time before missing again, into another garage in Southampton who did something else and again left seemingly fine, now its here. Im happy to be corrected if its a different lambo that happens to also be from a raffle

So, it was a raffle car, with no compression on one cylinder. Lets be honest, that's probably why it got flogged onto a raffle site so the lad has no comeback....and would have had a massive bill......raffle companies do seem to have a nice get out clause.......
