I suggest the Tri-Blade by Into The Smoke. Used by firefighters and emergency responders to open both main locks as well as secondary locks with unforced entry. It's lightweight, compact, and flexible. Conceived, designed, and made in Canada. They have a website as well as KZfaq channel if you're interested in checking their tool out.

Yes. I have THIS in my kit. I'm not breaking into anyone's property with a pry bar or using lock picks to go where I'm not welcome. However, getting trapped by a fence in a place where you have no options is another story. Running through land is viewed very differently, by most people, than breaking into a building/home. It's typically perceived as trespassing (but just passing through) VERSUS an invasion of personal space for the purpose of looting or hurting people. Bring zip ties or wire to repair what you've cut, once you get through. Always keep moving, don't linger and give people the notion that you're trespassing for other devious purposes.

@@sissydreams7494 I am in the UK and have been into locksport for decades (yup I'm old) I'd rather pick or bypass a lock on a gate instead of damaging the lock or the fence, I've been stopped by UK police while fishing or on the walking part of bug out/evacuation rehearsal and they question me having "burglary tools" I just say "I pick locks as therapy, solving problems calms me" I almost got arrested for having a Mora fishing knife though 🤣

A bit of advice with the military folding shovel shown: weld around the bracket attached to the shovel part. The rivets are the weak point and under hard use they will loosen and break. I've broken a couple, and being former infantry, I've seen others broken as well.

This is very special for me. In Puerto Rico, on january 6 2020, we had an 5.8 quake and 25 aftershoks. Then on jan 7, a 6.4 at early morning, followed by a 5.6, 5.4 and 5.6 within 3 hours. A total 38 replicas followed. A school fell in 32 seconds. A church, a medical building, 6 stores and 800 houses were damaged, with 300 totally collapsed. The night before, we put a crowbar, a sledge hammer and two regular hammers near our door. They still are reserved for exit tools. I did not needed them, but some neighbors had their doors jammed.

@Predbeau101 Tremors began on December 28, 2019. Every day about 16 to 20 tremmos, but they were about 3.0 t0 4.5. On january 6th, a 5.8 stuck and took down 5 houses. Then, people began to realize that this was a really dangerous situation. Then came the big one on jan 7th. This was a very " fortunate case" where tremors gave some sort of warning. You can check out the sequence in the wikipedia article an the USGS reports.

Man I remember that, felt so bad looking from the Mainland US knowing I couldn’t go help in anyway :( Plus isn’t Pureto Rico still dealing with the fallout of that massive hurricane season a year or so ago? Add on top of that the global pandemic, like man. I mean other parts of the US have been heavily impacted too, but man Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands just keep getting hit over and over again. The biggest thing in Virginia I had to deal with was that in 2011 with a magnitude 5.8 followed by so many aftershocks ranging up to 4.5. Luckily while our buildings aren’t necessarily built for earthquakes at least in my county the damage was very very limited. Stay Strong Puerto Rico 🇵🇷❤️

RMJ S13 Shrike is pretty high on the wishlist for an urban tool. A Triblade firefighter's tool might fit in some kits better than the SeaRAT with a little loss in functionality. Knifepoint? Makes a super light handle for Sawzall blades that will let you have the ability to cut multiple materials.Countycomm is making breacher bars in titanium now. Then there's stuff like the BreachPen and some of those larger gas station torch lighters will flat melt the inside of cheap locks. Urban and suburban the ability to cut metal, masonry, glass(heavy laminated glass - make hole with tomahawk spike, cut with sawzall rescue blade) , etc gets a lot more important. Another interesting point from the breaching guys- a 9" knife will breach most interior walls without having to attack it layer by layer.

Heavy duty wire/bolt cutters. If you’re traveling major roads, a lot have fences along them. If you need to detour and do a little off-roading a fence can be an obstacle. Also, a locked gate may hinder your route and you need to cut a padlock.

I think a framing hammer would be a definite force multiplier for driving in the crow bar, and would improve your striking capabilities for breaking windows, etc. The straight claws would also give you the capability of prying a door in two locations, when used with the crow bar.

I like the trucker's tool, but I'm also a big fan of the Cold Steel Special Forces shovel. It is multipurpose, and you may have to resort to the wile, where it would be especially handy for digging, rough cutting and chopping. It can also be used to cut through a sheet rock wall, and as a defensive weapon. But don't forget another useful, albeit smaller, urban tool, the sillcock key for obtaining water from outside faucets.

assuming that we are also not talking about things like Tarps which are huge when deployed for use, I'd say that some of the largest tools I carry are the Channellock 88 10.5" rescue tool, a Stanley 10" molding bar, and a non-sparking emergency gas & water shut off tool. I also carry a sillcock key, but that's hardly "large" as well as the elevator keys for the phoenix metro area. (where I live) I used to have one of the "Universal US Mailbox Keys" but then they stopped being keyed alike (a very good thing) and it's no longer valid. I also considered carry a water meter key, but decided against it. then there's the keyed alike key ring, which will operate nearly all fleet-keyed heavy machinery, and the lock bypass kit which will bypass most locks to get me out of where ever.

Maybe one of the two suggested tools. One, a common hatchet with the hammer head type on the other side of the blade. The type manufactured by vaughn tools. Number two, a heavy duty fencing pliers sold by Big box stores , like tractor supply. Even the one manufactured by channel lock are good. That should cover the striking tools. I would look at gripping and turning tools. Needle nose vise grips and a adjustable wrench.

RMJ Shrike S13 is the biggest tool in my bug out bag. It takes the place of bolt cutters, a pry bar, and a fireman's axe in the same way that a Leatherman can take the place of a standard toolbox to a certain degree. The handle is insulated enough to protect against a 2000 volt shock, so you can cut through walls without getting cooked if you hit a live wire. It can also function as a defensive weapon that doesn't run out of bullets. Worth every ounce IMO.

I recommend a pocket chainsaw over a folding saw. Lighter, takes up less room in the pack and is effective on larger trees and limbs; they also invariably come with a pouch that will fit on your belt. Probably the single largest tool I'll have in my get-home bag will be a hatchet. Keep in mind a hatchet and a hand saw / pocket chainsaw are for very different roles. Hatchets are useful for smaller branches and to shave off bits of wood for kindling, whereas the saw is for sectioning the larger pieces or removing larger branches.

I like that Seattle tool. My CERT bag is not really an evacuation bag, but some items cross over. I added a Gerber rescue tool that is about 8" long. It has a strap cutter, glass break, O2 wrench and a couple of pry points. The CERT bag came with an aluminum breaching tool that has a gas shut off on it. Items I have that might make it to the CERT bag, or possibly a new evacuation bag are: Trench Hawk by Cold Steel, a Cold Steel shovel, a 24" flat bar.

It has been decades since I lived in a city, I remember having to get a young lady friend out of a jam. Used my serape and leather hat to go over barbed wire and then my short pry bar to get her into her apartment. Moral of the story, sometimes clothing becomes a tool.

Cliff, as a woman, it would be awesome if you guys got all your wive's top recommendations on how they are prepping domestically in their individual homes. The day-to-day stuff we'll be using and doing will make up for a larger % of the time we spend. Women are typically at the forefront of that. Here are some of mine: Water - my friend in Venezuela taught me that in addition to 55 gallon barrels, 25-30 gallon barrels are more ideal to be placed in each bathroom and kitchen. Have a countertop water dispenser with spigot for each sink so you're not wasting water by pouring it out when washing dishes, hands, veggies. Texas taught me that bread and milk go fast. Have powdered milk on hand and best in those individual packets so you can share with family or neighbors. I'm currently learning to bake bread using a solar generator. A lot of fuel is wasted to heat water. Having a primo water dispenser uses 500 watts on a generator but gives you INSTANT hot or cold water that you can then put into a thermos or water cooler jug. This takes seconds and saves wood, propane or whatever fuel source you would use. In hyperinflation, everything becomes out of reach financially. Lightbulbs and water hoses will be stolen first from your porches if people need them due to power surges in outages. Have some extra on hand. You should have a minimum of 2 weeks of underwear and socks. You can't cook without oil. Food will burn. Homestead Heart cans butter and has used it 5 years later. Much better than the 2 year shelf life of oils. Not enough videos on prepping for power outages in extreme heat. Plastic sheeting and reflectix for windows, blackout shades, usb and battery operated fans, window ac run on a generator, or evaporative cooler. Neck fans and cooling fans are cheap on amazon. Maybe get dollar store shower curtains and use that to cover windows for drafts. Lebanon collapse teaches us to have cash outside the bank, a portable power bank like a Ravpower 32000 mah and a personal fan that is usb powered for each person. Ivation showerheads are great. Use paper plates and plastic ware to save water. I hear you can pour water directly into the toilet bowl instead of tank to save about half. Have about 10 - 5 gallon water jugs to take to refill. You can't carry a 55 gallon barrel filled with water. Silcock key. Study available water within a small radius of your home. Dot them on a map. Yeti buckets are worth the money after having several of the cheap ones break with minimal usage.

I haven’t watched this yet, I just want to see how the things I already have in my urban kit match what you suggest. A caveat: Since I live in a rural environment, I’m not ever going to be in an urban or suburban environment endless I drive there. Because of this, the biggest (by size/mass) tools in my urban kit are kept in my vehicles at all times, and are pretty big and heavy. The biggest tools I have specifically in my urban kit (verses every other kit I have) are a pry bar and bolt cutters. The smallest things I have in my Urban EDC kit (the one I actually carry with me in urban settings, rather than keep in my vehicle) that aren’t in any other kind of kit are my lock pick set and my silcock key. Having now watched the video now, the SEARAT does look pretty cool....

I agree with the 10 Cs, But a Rock will do what most of those large tools you list will do, It can bust the window of those lock doors, it will crack a head like a bat, it can even chop or dig, a Limb with multiple branches can be used as a rake, I do carry a Shovel (my Biggest tool) but I have the Russian Military Shovel, It can Can Dig, Pry, Chop or be used as a weapon.

I'd go for the car as the largest tool. Would let me carry that heavy shovel too. Ratchet cutters for fences, lock brackets, cables and a good window breaking swing is a choice urban cutting tools. Careful with the rakes....mine bent easily and would not collapse after one use.

If you walk out of a city there can be wire fences and bolted gates around property that hasn't served a purpose for 40 years and isn't marked on a map. I can't decide on full sized and half sized bolt cutters to solve this issue but should decide soon.
