"The Devil in Ohio" Netflix show had a lot of interesting and in my personal opinion, accurate, representation of real world magical practices. It's not too fantastical (as in not a lot of traditional "magic" special effects) and I'd love to see a review of it if you so choose!!!

I just finished watching it. The show gives a good representation of the effects of religion and/or "cults" on behavior and mental issues. It demonstrates how hard it is to expand your mind beyond the teachings of the cult.

I would love a video on Practical Magic. It’s a favourite in our house. We even have code phrases based upon our movie favourites and from Practical Magic it’s, A little mugwort will fix that right up.” (Of course, to heal a wound you would use honey, aloe or yarrow.) it’s wonderful fun. I like longer, in-depth videos.

Norse mythology, here we go! I suspect Gryla is a Jottun (giant, although norse giants aren't always giant, they can choose their size) and also a troll. When I say troll, I mean it in the pre-Christian sense, which means someone who uses magic. As for pronunciation, find a video of an Icelandic speaker saying it.

Having grown up with the Archie and Friends Saturday morning cartoons, I was used to Sabrina the Teenage Witch being basically based on the sitcom Bewitched. But then I saw a few episodes of Riverdale that seemed to take the characters much more seriously. My wife and really enjoyed the sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch, even though it was basically silly it was still a lot of fun. So I was really excited to find The Real Adventures of Sabrina. Yes, I was surprised to find how much real witchcraft was presented, except of course for all the references to Satan and Hell and all of those other Christian trappings and stereotypes. Have a blessed Solstice and a glad Yule.

In Catalonia there's an old (probably) pagan yuletide tradition to have a log with a face, a traditional hat, 2 front legs and a little blanket called Tió de Nadal, kids have to feed it things li'e orange peels throughout December and at Christmas they have to hit it like a piñata and it poops presents. Not quite as ceremonial as a yule log but a lot of fun for the kids. Halfway through the month, parents will often switch the log for a bigger one to show he's getting fatter with presents.

Ooo can't wait to see what you think about The Craft lol I personally liked it only for entertainment but personally it was alright for me. lol Not my number one witch/magical movie but for the thrills, fashion, fantasy, and dramatic chantings sure. lol I do like Practical Magic. Now that one I truly love because I did not suspect the ending where all the women who would gossip bad about our characters actually all got together to do a spell to release the bad spirit from the man's body. Now that was twist. Really good film. Can't wait to see what you think of it.

In Québec we have a mythical figure called "le bonhomme 7 heures" which translates to "the 7 o'clock man". He is used by parents to scare young children into going to bed by 7 pm, or else the man will take them away. I remember being terrified of him as a child. Reminds me of Gryla's tale.

In Scandinavian folklore, way back in our pagan past the word troll and witch were sometimes used synonymously. As Christianity took hold the woman with troll cunning (a witch) were turned into hideous beasts. So, it makes sense that there may be some confusion if Gryla was a witch or troll
