You emphasized tuition. What about room and board, laptop, printer, books, etc? Are those under the “ tuition “?

Thanks for the comment. No, room and board is a separate expense. And it will vary based on the individual due to some commuting to school, some in student housing (resident halls/dorms, off campus student housing, fraternity/sorority housing, etc). In the last dollar scholarships I’ve seen, it only goes to school/class costs, not living expenses.

You will also find in searching scholarships that some have stipulations in how you spend, while others are just a blank check to spend how you need.

@@kenyonbissett3512 Thanks for the follow up. Tuition is it's own cost that is part of several costs to attend college. I'll use UCLA instate tuition as an example: admission.ucla.edu/tuition-aid/tuition-fees. When you look at fees and tuition, tuition is it's own cost. The other fees/costs included in the UCLA example are living expenses and then books/supplies. The costs they list are approximate. Example, if you are living at home with your parents as a student just after high school, it's likely the parents are paying rent, food, etc. So, cost to attend can be theoretically lower. If my son were to attend UCLA and live from home (to continue the example) he would not have to worry about room/meals and health insurance as those are existing costs I'm already paying as head of the household. So, he would need to worry about tuition, books, transportation, and personal expenses. And, his transportation cost would be lower with a monthly Metro pass. And buying books used or e-books would cost a fraction of that stated as the university assumes an average of "new" books bought throughout the year in their costs. @@SteveGilbert thank for that information. I wasn’t clear about what I meant. Under tuition, I meant things like the university charges $300 per credit hour + $50 laboratory fee + $75 student activities fee per credit hour. Would all three be considered tuition since they are a mandatory attached fee to the credit hour course cost?
