Iron Maiden’s reunion album Brave New World features one of the most unusual cover artworks in the band’s discography… which also happens to have a couple of hidden secrets in it.
So in honour of Brave New World’s 24th Birthday let’s take a look at the history behind its artwork, reveal some hidden treasures most fans have never noticed… and then take a look at some exclusive content from Dean Karr, the man behind the camera of the iconic Brave New World photographs. Here you go!
Btw, many of the Dean Karr prints are available right from the source. So make sure to check out his Instagram - / deankarrphotography

The first Iron Maiden album I every bought on CD, and my favourite album of theirs outside the 80s. Love it so much. A friend of mine was playing Out Of The Silent Planet on a mixed playlist one evening and my ears pricked up for the whole song. I asked him if he'd mind playing it one more time and he did so. Two weeks later when I had enough money, I went to the local record shop and bought the album... thus from that day on, I was an Iron Maiden fan 🤘❤

That song is stunning. The harmonies, the vocals, the solo. Hell, any song on BNW could be my fave, at any given time. They're simply all that great. A friend of mine lent me the CD for a weekend. I sold my soul to Maiden instantly. Got my own copy the next week. Then Rock in Rio came out & I was well on my way to collecting their other albums by then. Life changing band & album \m/

Brave New World is an awesome album and we're now more years away from Brave New World than Brave New World was from the first Iron Maiden album.

That's a crazy thought. I clearly remember getting that album, doesn't feel all that long ago. When I got it, the Di'anno albums seemed so old to me (cos they're older than me!) Time feels like it moves faster the older you get, cos it's relative to how many years you've lived. As old as you are today, that amount of years is going to feel like it goes by in half the amount of time. It's true.

That photo where the boys are looking up at the sky is the backside of my CD of Brave New World. It's such a good image. The boys are looking up at their brave new future.

Coincidentally, I first heard Iron Maiden in the year 2000 on the radio. I was in high school and just getting into metal. Maiden, along with a few other bands, blew everything else out of the water! To this day Brave New World is my favorite Maiden album. Every track is a no skip no matter what. A perfect album. Also (and you've covered this on another video) I thought I was losing my mind when I bought the album and the callback chants from the chorus were absent 😂

When they became a 6 piece my first thought was the live possibility of dual harmony guitars recorded with a rhythm guitar backing track in the studio could be reproduced more accurately live. That's what made it easy for me to get over the unusual image of 3 guitarists in the band instead of 2. Obviously Bruce and Adrian being back was the main reason for me buying the album. I was also happy that Janick didn't get replaced by Adrian because he and Blaze wrote my favourite song on The X Factor album (an album I wasn't impressed with), Man On The Edge, and I discovered he had a writing credit on some of the best songs on the Brave New World album. He's also very active on stage, always jumping around and doing quirky, stretchy poses and spinning the guitar around without missing a beat or a note.

Personally this is my favourite Maiden new era record. And having Adrian back was a bonus as he wrote some classics in the past. It was such a relief to have Bruce back as Blaze had sucked the life and energy out of the band. I still have a signed poster of brave New World when I met the band in 2000. Love your videos stay safe.

Great episode, Brave New World forever a Top5 Maiden fer this fan! However just a couple weeks ago it was also the 24th anniversary of Blaze's first post-Maiden album Silicon Messiah! Unfairly released the very same month as Maiden's reunion album and to little fanfare, Silicon Messiah had little chance of success under the large shadow cast by Brave New World. Yet Silicon Messiah was arguably as good a comeback as theirs or any. Given the circumstances it was an extraordinary effort and it's disappointing it wasn't given its due. Perhaps an episode celebrating and dissecting Blaze's 2000 debut could also be in store? 😉

Great album, amazing cover. I had it on a t-shirt, but it's too big for me now lol Btw, I may have missed it, but I don't think you mentioned that the album cover (and title track) are based on the book of the same name by Aldous Huxley, most of which is set in the London of the distant future. The lyrics also reference the book.

It's Maiden's best album. The perfect mix of short snappy numbers along with longer more proggy efforts. There's not a dull moment anywhere. Even IMs 'classic' albums often have quite a bit of filler in them, but not here.

Very little to do with this video, but I feel it would be great to sometimes "escape" from always rotating around the usual 5-6 big bands and make a few videos within the year, about the less big ones. Last few weeks or months for example, quite a few others, released new material. Demon, Cloven Hoof, Praying Mantis, Tygers of Pan Tang (live LP), Riot V, Atrophy, Kerry King, Evildead, Warlord and so on. Let alone what is going on, in the underground scene. Which in this music basically made some of them, actually big.
