I am so glad I found you, I have been struggling with Russian as a hobby for many years, and cannot get a grip on the grammar, I hate the cases! But you are very clear when you speak and it is invaluable for listening practice. I have tried watching Russian news, "Novosti", and I don't catch a single word! So thanks Max for going at a good speed.

I like your positive approach to learning. I find that for more advanced learning (I'm trying to learn German, for instance), watching movies and TV is extremely beneficial. And immersion, of course, works best. Reading is easiest, as you can do it at your own speed. Expressing yourself as you wish to, especially on technical topics, is, perhaps, the most difficult. Anyway, your videos are interesting despite the repetition and definition of common words, and I sincerely appreciate that.

I'm guilty of this!! I've been listening to this program I have for almost a year now! A YEAR. I just repeat it again and again. I know the meaning in English when I play the audio. But the reason I keep on repeating it is because I want to catch each word & phrases. I feel like I need to Master the program before I move on. It's why my level won't grow....But I don't watch the same movies nor music. I watch different movies. Thanks for the video. And we appreciate the English subtitles.

Victorianne Castle On ‘catching every word and phrase’ : here’s maybe a suggestion for you following up Max’s “try different approaches”: google Белкин Этимология мнемотехника .Needs a bit of searching but you’ll find it. This is actually for Russians wanting to nail down the ultimate cognations in common between their language in English, but you could do the same “trio”-ing words to learn the other way round. For instance, in the first example Belkin gives , for you it would be МЕДВЕДЬ / MEAD / = BEAR . . Yes, Max is a very good teacher. Asher, Chomsky and Lozanov and other great second language gurus all rolled into one!

Great video. This is one of the first videos I managed to watch without subtitles, that I could mostly understand, and that is not made out of fake dialogs or made up discussions. Thanks Max. Good advice. I taught myself Italian over a period of about 18 months and can communicate rather well. I've been dabbling with Russian for about a month about an hour a day, reading writing, transcribing from videos. I have to say it is hugely more challenging than a Latin look anguage. I have been bbn interested in Russia since I was a kid. I went to the Russian exhibition in New York in 1959, I saw the Moseyev dancers, took Russian culture classes in college. I'm 78 years old and I feel like a young student. I can vfc relate to what you advise, since I gave always gone outside the box on many subjects. I'm determined to get good at Russian language. Thanks. Any advice is appreciated

Very good YT video. Multiple inputs to the brain for language learning! The problem with a lot of language learning courses are they are very good for beginners, but when you are at the intermediate level the amount of suitable material is harder to find. Many commercial language courses do not go past the beginner level. Of course, you have to search for suitable intermediate level with books, audio, YT videos, and language exchange partners. I found the best way is to buy books, audio books etc in the language you are studying that are written for teenagers, that equate to an intermediate level in my target language(s). Change is always good for the brain!!
