A quick rundown of the relationship between runes and the reconstructed Proto-Germanic language. This video is intended to provide some background for a subsequent video on how Old English runemasters developed futhark into futhorc. From there, we'll derived how we can best write today's English in runes.

Good idea! I’m also revisiting the foundations to better understand a path forward. What do you think of Elmer Antonsen’s argument for ᛇ being /æ:/? I haven’t seen a refutation yet. The idea is that it disappeared from usage because the /æ/ sound has a tendency to go either to /e/ (ᛖ) or /a/ (ᚨ)

And þis 3:54 ladies and Gentlemen is why I use aiwaz to indicate long vowel lengþ when written seperately, since þis rune needed a new purpose. Since it could be read as /æ/ /e/~/ai/ And as a Bindrune it can help creating Umlauts. Granted, I granted myself some liberties wiþ it, but þe practibility of it was too lush to not use. It helps wiþ German vowel distinction.

@@Beleidigen-ist-Pflicht that’s not a bad idea, but I would imagine that you’re not using it for vowel length in phonemes like THOUGHT and GOOSE right?

@@ConciseCabbage well þis meþod wasn't meant to be applied to English, only to German . of course Aiwaz ᛇ means someþing different to you Englishfolk, and may not be applicable þere. Þe german writing tradition just allows for Aiwaz somewhat to be used þat way.
