I love the space marine rhino because it looks so future industrial, which is what space marine should kind of have rather than being super sleek

I reckon the drop pod, rhino and land raider are similar to terminators in that they're too iconic to space marines to be replaced or discontinued, so they'll instead get redone to still be the same unit but primaris compatible. I reckon the razorback, whirlwind, vindicator, and predators will probably go though since they're in a similar league to the hunter and thunderfire cannon in that they're only used a lot when the meta encourages it.

They can’t kill the Rhino while the sisters of silence and sisters of battle use them

The Stormraven is actually pretty accurate in scale to some search and rescue military aircraft used in the 60’s

I honestly loath the new marine grav tanks. They just look ridiculous to me. I personally loved the marine tank aesthetic, that everything (minus the land raider) was built off the rhino chassis. The vindicator and predator are awesome. As for the ATV…. Just eww.

I reckon the Devastators are pretty at risk of being phased out, it's just that unlike other firstborn units it got scattered across the Primaris range in the form of Heavy Intercessors, Hellblasters, Eradicators, and Desolation Marines

The Rhino better stick around, it's my favourite 40k vehicle. It's heavily inspired by the M113 APC. Arguably, the greatest armoured vehicle of its kind ever put into service. They look even more like a box though. In the Army, we would call them "buckets".

I like the new primaris scale of things, but a lot of the new kits are a little too plain imo, I like how in the tactical squad kit you got some mark 6 armour etc, I think there needs to be more variations of the Mark X pattern armour including shoulders and helmet variations,

dont forget space wolves have first born specific units too! Grey hunters and blood claws and long fangs can all go in razorbacks :)

The jump packs can be used on heresy Marines , in addition to 40k Marines and Primaris.

I also own like 40 or so Devastators. I bought a couple of the new kits plus a tactical squad kit and just gave them all the heavy weapons. Now I really gotta paint them all just in case the get phased out I want to get some games in with them.

I *love* that the "old" jump-packs are still availible. I've bought 3 set so far! First off, I converted my Supressors to use them (I cut the grav-chute fins off their normal backpacks and attached them to the Jump packs, to update the look just a tiny little bit). Now I'm starting on a full 'Vanguard Veteran' squad, with Assault Intercessors as the base, more "old" Jump-packs with added grav-chute fins, and I'm equiping them with Chain-Axes and "Breacher" shields that I got from a 3rd party parts maker.

The last terrain was train station, but I've never seen a 40k train, a themed train mission, or even monorail tracks. In Ork or other armies. I think someone should do a train, a train mission, and use terrain meant for trains.

As an aside, vehicles and infantry do have separate lascannon profiles: Infantry/devastators are 1/4/12/3/D6+1 Predator sponsons are 1/3/12/3/D6+1 The predator twin turret lascannons are 1/3/14/3/D6+1 (twin linked) And land raider sponsons are 2/3/12/3/D6+1 (not twin linked). If infantry stay still they get profiles as good as predator sponsons, but they're still weaker than the turret guns, which imo are weaker still than the LR sponsons. It isn't much of a difference, but it is there

Talking about the venerable boxnoughts makes me wonder if 5th really was peak and it's not just nostalgia talking lol. Just in terms of capturing the feel. I still love those old codex and all the detailed and grizzled black and white art. Now there's so many options and depth

Rhino + variants on the same chassis are at risk (Whirlwind has been out of stock for a while). Devastator Squads are probably next on the chopping block once some form of grav weapon super elite primaris thing gets unveiled. Tactical Squads shortly after since there's already like 4 different base infantry squad in the primaris roster. And once all the non-chapter affiliated firstborn options are gone, they'll probably start putting out primaris replacement for chapter specific kits, maybe Deathwatch first since they can mostly handle that with an upgrade sprue for primaris infantry.

As far as vehicle weapon profiles vs. infantry, they could allow more shots for vehicle mounted since the weapon would assumably have a larger ammo/power supply and a more stable platform that infantry. So, a devastator marine would get one shot per weapon in the squad, a vehicle would get 2 per weapon on the vehicle. The larger vehicle weapons could be explained as larger due to the cooling needed from heavier output if weapons fire

15:40 It's a classic case of "if everything is awsome, nothing is". Space Marines are now pumped with so many crazy options that nothing stands out. I remember back in the 3rd edition, having 2+ save on Terminators was massive. Now you need to have few wounds and inv save to feel even a little bit better compared to baseline troops.

Personally, I wouldn’t buy any first born kits if I was a consumer. It’s too worrisome now after this last culling. Even things I thought were selling alright (bikes) got hit, so it’s not strictly a “what’s no longer selling” equation. Maybe it’s “and our moulds need replacing but we don’t want to redo that old kit” Now, unless see a glut of new chaos kits the chaos versions of everything are pretty safe. I hope so anyway - I’ll be really salty if my thousand sons lose their vindicator i just picked up because they need something anti-tank in the collection

Tactical squads are handy for flexible weapon choices I prefer Razorbacks for 5 model units of Devastator units. More heavy firepower.

I kind of wouldn't mind them changing the base chassis around a bit, I think there's a lot of the space-marine vehicle designs (dreadnoughts excluded) don't look very good for a super-elite force I'd kind of do something like... Razorback (New, custom chassis, cheap Impulsor) Rhino (Gets longer and 10% fatter) Predator (moves onto Sicaran chassis) Landraider (Land Raider Spartan == default, maybe change the tracks to be less derpy ) (Tracked vehicles get a bonus in close-combat against infantry maybe.) Storm Raven (RIP, I really think it's derpy) Fire Raptor Gunship (full plastic kit, is new flying transport) Drop-pod (Stays the same, just fix the damage once the 1st born are gone) ASTHETIC MOVE: Stop putting marines in turrets, they're too chunky, their shoulders can't squeeze into the tank, have it manned by serfs/servitors or by remote, and a techmarine seems way too valuable to be on any turret, and a marine seems broadly wasted as a pilot. I like the idea of changing the damage profile of a vehicle weapon from the infantry.

Weapons now DO differ by infantry or vehicle type. Case in point, Godhammer lascannons on land raider

I dont think we are getting new scouts with the codex release unless that codex comes after the new kill team season 3 start box. Its almost guaranteed that we get scouts with that one + an eldar team. The original article teaser back in may already teased that. Unless they do two scout sets (a specialized kill team and a basic one like the old one), but I think thats rather unlikely.

Idea, use the heresy rules to play a badab war setting. Or Play them as primaris, only issue is that intersessors dont have weapon variety. But there's also one page rules.

I personally wish there was more crossover between what Primaris and first born can be transported in.The fact that currently Primaris can't go in a rhino and first born can't go in an Impulsor is silly.

I think in the lore the old box Dreds should be repurposed by the mechanicum for public transport - it'd be a super messed up version of Thomas the tank engine but I'd totally read a novel about it

I admit, I use my Grey Knight Stormtalons and Stormraven in the same roles as tanks typically, because man, they kind of have little in the way of anti-vehicle units.

Tanks in Warhammer are oversized, planes are wildly undersized. I did not appreciate how large wh tanks were until I put a 1:48 KV-1 heavy tank next to the Sisters missile organ.

OK, so I had an epiphany watching this video. The way to 'solve' the divide between Primaris and Firstborn in the rules is to just make them two separate armies. GW's not gonna do this, but if they want to take all of the Firstborn stuff out of Legends and make them tournament legal, just give them their own index. They can get access to Primaris detachment rules for the different chapters, but all of their units are free in an index. I think this would work because most people either mostly Primaris or mostly Firstborn, or a little of both. Primaris enjoyers can play Primaris, and squatty marine players can play Firstborn. They can still phase out all of the old kits if they want, but you'll still be able to play them in-game. At least for this edition. Also, Jay, pick up a Stormraven Gunship and Venerable Dread for your Grey Knights! Just stick the Dread in the Stormraven and drop him in the middle of the battlefield to dish out a re-roll hits and wounds aura. It's definitely super good and not at all a point sink.

Land Raiders can take primaris now anyway so don't see why they would remove them, along with it being iconic anyway. None of the vehicles particularly make sense being removed imo, especially lore wise, as the primaris thing is really about infantry actual space marines themselves being different. Just because they have new stuff doesn't suddenly mean a chapter is going to not use it's Rhinos or Predators or Land Raiders etc. Most of the lore mentions how valuable space marine equipment is.

Maybe we can get a primaris tactical squad and maybe the legions will be reformed

To speak to why things are on the web store still, I am new to warhammer 40K, and I really just like the lore and painting. Not much if a table top player. So if something isn’t active in the table top, it is still chumps like me buying them up despite being shelved by GW.

There IS a reason firstborn jump packs and vanguard veterans are survived. SPACE WOLVES Their Wolf Guards requires vanguard veterans kit, their Sky Claws need firstborn jump packs. Long Fangs requires Dev Squad. So, until Space Wolves' chapter specific units are 'primaris-nized', Those 3 kits won't die. Rhino is, on the other hand, a bit more complicated. SoB and CSM need Rhino sprues for their own Rhino. I'm not sure what GW's going to do with that.

I collect Space Wolves, Blood Angels, and Black Templars because I like abuse... :) Most are firstborn with a spattering of primaris added as I build them up. Some of these older kits that may be leaving have Space Wolves or Blood Angels specific versions. I think it would be weird for them to retire these kits without retiring the chapter specific ones. But who knows, it is GW. I am NOT retiring my Bjorn! :)

I think that the primaris vehicles look alright in general, but for branding they just aren't as strong. Land Raiders and Dreadnoughts especially were lightning in a bottle, fantastic designs that hold up despite being incredibly old kits. The primaris vehicles look nice, but they have no personality and from a branding perspective look blander and more generic then the firstborn vehicles.

I could see the flyers going, but Rhino and such are probably staying. If anything the may be "Primarised" and a new kit may come out bigger. Or they will just be folded into 30k.

Personally, I do think a bit of pruning still needs to be done on the Space marine product line. I'm in favor of a blanket culling of all pre-primaris infantry, bikers, etc (anything in which you can *see* the body of the marine). Centurions fit into a weird grey area; even though I like them, they are *also* quite stubby and stocky, and should have been designed with better proportions. Obviously, this isn't feasible yet for some divergent chapters (space wolves), but I think that'd be a good end goal. Of course, I was also in favor of never cutting *anything* from the Horus Heresy line out of 40k, and I still think their decision to cut them to Legends was one borne out of laziness. But I'm saying this as an Admech player, not a marine player, because I don't think the solution to "not all factions can use their HH models :(" was "okay, cut call HH models, fair is fair :)". Again, it was lazy, but that's par for the course.

Just from a primaris nerf gun to Ballistus missile launcher comparison, it makes the new dreadnought look even more ridiculous in comparison. Why not strap several marine nerf gun launchers to the dreadnought? I think they were more worried about having several primaris dreadnoughts to replace the old-style dreadnoughts without thinking things through all the way.

My bets: Rhino, Razorback, Predator, vindicator and whirlwind. They will get a replacement if they don’t have one already (impulsor = rhino, gladiator = predator, we just need a rocket impulsor and big cannon impulsor). The Rhino kit and accessories are really old. I can see Chaos getting a new Rhino, predator and vindicator kit but it will be hideously warp touched, the upgrade sprue can legally drink its so old. Having a new kit that blends better with the modern Chaos aesthetic must be on the cards. Tac marines and Devastators have to be on the chopping block soon. I see GW leaning further into mono-wargear squads, we have bolter guys, heavy bolter guys, plasma guys, melta guys, rocket guys and now flamer guys. The days of multi gear squads are clearly numbered.

Simple solution for Tactical Marines is to just add Primaris bodies. Come on, GW. Just make Tactical squad Primaris already

Here’s what you do. GW let’s you use other models to fill in for similar models. So just put your older models onto bigger base plates and they, by their own rules, can’t say anything

I would argue the points cost of max devastator squads makes no sense. Why would anyone ever take a maxed 10 man devastator squad for 200 points when they can take two five man devastator squads for 240 points instead? for a paltry 40 more points you get the same number of bodies but double the number of heavy weapons. You also get twice the OC from having two squads instead of one. An og space marine is not worth 16 points per model. Maxed devastator squads are still way too expensive.
