It's really either or both depending on your play style. The ability to play it as a sandbox is still there however they added more for exploration recently so you can do both

The shipwrecks ruined me. I imagine a bunch of sailors collectively agreed to beach their ships in that one area, and the shipwrecks steadily piled up in numbers.

They really need to remove lava from the woodland mansions. Its pretty ridiculous that a structure as important as this has a chance to destroy itself before you can even enter in some cases.

Imagine if you got really lucky and tons of random structures formed an actual town. Like an empty village with woodland mansions and witch huts, connected to a village that isn't empty that connects to the empty village with the other structures in it.

So I think the reason why the end portal spawned as high as it did is that it doesn’t generate when the world is created only when the dragon spawns, and the fountain spawns on the highest available block + the combination of the world lag you broke the stone block that the end fountain spawned on then the fountain spawned on the non existent stone block and rubber banded you back the the fountain, at least that is my theory.

My guess for what happened with the main end island, Earlier in the video you said that you could generate structures at y level -128 So the island probably generated there, but the main portal didn’t (I’d have no clue why)

Reminds me of my first minecraft server . Friend invited me over and after exploring for few minutes his friend spawned 1m tnt's in the distance. At first i didnt know what it was but when i realized we quickly started destroying them unfortunately somehow they started exploding. Lemme just say that after 1 week of server being online tnt's still kept exploding and u would dc after few seconds. What we saw when we were trying to log in was complete chaos blocks flying everywhere and some weirs holes in the graphic of the game . Well it was certainly unique experience for first minecraft server. 😅

Interesting, it picks structure location chunk by chunk, so the one chunk structures like witches huts get placed neatly but the multi chunk ones like mansions and villages just get overlapped on-top of eachother

The end ports generating in the sky was because you used setblock to put a stone block at 0, 0, very high up, before the end portal spawns, and the end portal spawns on the highest block at 0,0
