I became a Christian 20 years ago and stopped drinking. But I went through a really bad divorce that included my wife becoming pregnant to another man while we had four children who I ended up with custody of, then I started to drink again every second weekend, then my dad passed away at 61 years old and I started to drink even more. Fast forward 10 years and I was heavily drinking every day, I brought the body into disrepute and sinned against the Lord sexually with a number of women and made a real mess of fatherhood and exampled a bad and sinful way of life to my children. One evening about 4 months ago I was watching sermons on KZfaq while drunk and one evening I made a decision that I was going to make a stand for Jesus. The next day I woke up and realized that the Lord had delivered me from alcoholism and other sins. He litterly took them out of my being, I haven't looked at pornography or even had the urge and the need to drink is completely gone. If anyone is reading this and loves the Lord at heart but is a slave to sin, do not give up, believe in Him and believe He is faithful to deliver you. It's not by your might nor by your strength but it's by His Spirit you shall be saved! He is the one who does the work, you just need to believe and be willing to walk with Him in His ways!

I drank almost every day Feb 1985 to June 2019 = 34 years. My evening drink became the highlight of my day and I didn’t think I could be happy without it. It bothered me that there are so many Bible verses about drunkards not inheriting the Kingdom of heaven...I went to bed every night in 2018 begging God to take away this craving so I could be able to have wine/gin in the house and not want to touch it. The preachers/believers I respect the most did/do not drink and urged others not to either(Billy Graham John MacArthur and many others) I wanted to be like that.... 16 June 2019 I went to bed alcohol free.... and haven’t drunk since. Still trusting God to help me every day...

What I've told my friends and family: Fire can be used to cook your food and heat your home, but you can also be burned to death with it... Decent analogy 😉

I grew up believing alcohol to be a sin. I met my husband who grew up in a beautiful Christian family where moderate alcohol was enjoyed in Biblical way. We both tore the scriptures apart to find whatever was truth and side with that. It became clear that moderate alcohol wasn't only not a sin, but a blessing. After considering my personal nature to addiction I considered that I had temperament in other areas of my life, and felt God's blessing to partake as I read His Word. But before trying it I had to work through my thoughts about drunkenness. The world makes it sound like alcohol isn't any fun unless you get drunk, which of course forbidden by Scripture. My husband helped me understand that the truth is opposite. Drinking wine and it making the heart glad is the fun part, drinking too much isn't any fun at all. After years of partaking I agree with that. We see it as a blessing that must be in submission to God. That being said, our society doesn't support good principles in discipline. In my experience alcohol can only be part of my life with strict discipline. I've noticed a sort of discipline part of the Bible that doesn't seem to exist in most circles today. Approaching alcohol without discipline will lead to ruin. If I live thinking I'm immune to it, I'm being arrogant! That's why humble dependence on God has to go with the decision to drink.

I have struggled with alcoholism for 7+ years. There have been some very dark times, even needing surgery to fix my injuries. This video changed everything for me. I am married to a man that has never taken a drop of alcohol in his life. He told me when he was young if he never started drinking he would never have to worry about quiting. He was saved at 8 years old. He is a disciplined person in many ways. He loves the Lord. He never judges others for drinking, he is a remarkable Christian.

I KNOW IT'S LONG, BUT YOU REALLY SHOULD READ THIS, Even though I was raised in a good holiness home and taught right, I stopped going to church and started mingling with the world at around 19, I started drinking just a little at first, just to fit in, I became an alcoholic, one night during a drunken stupor, I tried something called crank, it sobered me up and made me feel great, surely just doing a little bit here and there won't hurt me? The alcohol and crank eat a hole in my stomach, I spent over two weeks in erlanger hospital, they did emergency surgery on my stomach, called the family in because they wasn't sure I was going to make it, now I was liking how the demerol made me feel, when I was released, they gave me strong pain meds, I loved the way that made me feel better than anything else I had tried, Dad and Mom telling me, I should try not taking them, or at least cut back, and only take them when I REALLY needed them, but I had the perfect excuse right? I mean look at my stomach, I'm cut from my chest down below my belly, I continued to go back to the doctor to get refills, way after I was healed up, I practically had to beg for them, and lie to the doctor that I was still in pain, until he finally cut me off, so I went to the streets to find them, and paid extremely high prices, so now I'm an alcoholic and dope addict, My Dad came to me one day and prophesied to me, with big tears rolling down his face, he said son,I have a message for you, God told me to tell you, if you didn't straighten up, stop your wicked ways and get back in church, destruction is on your trail, and when it happens, it will be almost more than you can bare, I didn't listen, I knew it was true, because my Dad was a great man of God ( I had seen God work miracles through him before) it didn't happen right away, but when it did, It was almost more than I could bare, I lost everything I ever had, got in trouble with the law, and was looking at prison time, by this time, Dad and Mom had both passed away ( Dad died like 2 months after Mom died, married for 62 years) while I was in the drunk tank or holding cell, withdrawing, and begging God to save my soul and let me die, I meant it, ( couldn't kill myself, I already had tried, but the thought kept coming to me, if you pull the trigger, you're going to hell) so I went back to what I KNEW would work, I prayed like never before, I took awhile, it wasn't just a 2 or 3 minute prayer, but I didn't stop praying until God had mercy on me and heard my prayer, INSTANTLY, in that little jail cell, God saved me, the withdrawal was gone, sickness all gone, and for the first time in a couple years, I WANTED TO LIVE, I received another miracle, I didn't do one day in prison, I never had another craving for alcohol or drugs, that's been over 5 years ago, I'm still in church, I lead singing, I'm still shouting the victory, and so can you

I quit drinking for 2 months. Gave myself a cheat day and got so drunk for 2 days, abused my body and now I have regrets and going back on the wagon. For some people moderation isn't possible. I think I am one of those people.

I had a family member get in my face and it was the best thing he could have done and later I thanked Him profusely., I have (in one month) been alcohoil free and sober for 10 years. I was led by the Lord to quit drinking as a new believer at age 21, I seemed to fail badly at social drinking my 1st year as a believer. Often waking up the next morning realizing I had about 3-6 drinks more than I intended to and felt real badly about it. It was hard to let go of it as drinking was very ingrained in my Irish American upbringing , but I felt a strong leading from the Lord at the time. Recently, 35 yrs later, I've thought about trying to social drink again and even prayed about it, figuring I'm a bit older and maybe can handle it. One day it just dawned on me that He told me to quit drinking and hasn't said to go back to it. I take comfort in the scripture that says to not be drunk with wine, but to be filled with the Spirit. So folks like me have something from God to take that place, and to ask Him to fill me with His Spirit often. Kudos to those that can handle a drink in Christ (Im probably a little jealous ), those folks can probably take it or leave it. No need to be legalistic about it on either end, we have freedom in Christ. But I do suggest that drinkers examine themselves and watch what fruit it bears out. I suggest dropping it if it seems that temptations increase while drinking or you find yourself regretting anything you've said or done the night before, or if you often find your thoughts too obsessed with your next drink or social events coming up. I met 2 old Christians a few years back, one would give testimony about God delivering him from booze and even had a tape about him aired on the radio through Moody broadcasting , the other taught men for many years how to get and stay sober in a Christian rehab and was now elderly and retired. Both, as old men, got back into drinking as seniors. One would have the largest bottle of wine I've ever seen by his chair and sip all day long, stressing that it was medicine for him (pure nonsense) the other would talk non stop about where his daughter and he would be going for dinner the coming weekend. Not about the meal but about what he would drink. Totally obsessed and unaware.They were both patients of mine at the time (I'm a home health nurse) and I knew it was not a coincidence . I took it as a warning at the time(ten years ago), now I need to heed it .A book by Jack Deere(biography) called Even in our Darkness seemed to highlight how it played a large role in devastating his family. Very honest book and he doesn't knock alcohol. We have the God given freedom for it, but I think we need to examine ourselves very honestly also , alcoholism can be a very subtle, clever snake

I grew up in a German church where beer was what you had with meals. At our church picnics and dinner there was beer. I don’t remember anyone ever being drunk. It’s just the way it was. So I grew up viewing beer and wine as not sinful in and of itself, but never something that you set out to get drunk with.

I was just blown away by the realization that the Old Testament says that bread is to strengthen the heart, and wine is to lighten the heart and the New Testament informs us that Jesus is our bread and wine. So good!

As someone who recently turned 21 and loves the taste of certain alcohols, but never even the slightest interest in getting drunk, thank you. Many of my friends keep telling me that if I have a drink that I’ll eventually become an alcoholic; or they think bourbon is inherently a sin because it’s a higher proof. It didn’t help that for a few years growing up my family went to a church that preached that none of the wine in the Bible was ever fermented and that only pagans drank alcoholic wine.

I'm so tired of failing, but I never give up. Now I’m on the first day of not drinking anything again. Last time I lasted many moons. I hope this time it last forever. I have been dealing with if it’s ok to drink or not. I thank you for the hard work you have done with your Bible study. I’m one of those that make problems when I drink. So, when you said everything that you did about drinking too much, and that alcohol makes issues in your life, then you should never drink. hope that the Lord can strengthen me, so that my walk can be glorifying God. Trying to be Christian and not sin is the hardest thing I have ever tried. I used to think that Christians was weak and silly. Now I understand that they are the strongest people on the face of the earth. I wish I had a priest or pastor I could speak with, or a church, preferably both. Home in Norway the churches are destroyed. Not materialistic destroyed, but it’s a waste land of dead Church communities, most churches where I come from don’t even have a dedicated priest. The church doors are closed most of the time, else then when there is some kind of event. Lucifer has done grate work in Norway, destroying our Christian values, culture, and communities. I am 29 years old and I have never drunk alcohol since I was born in a Christian family and my parents forbid it to anyone living in our house and even 12 years after my salvation I have never tasted it. Thanks for preaching and being faithful to the Word! I struggle with my denomination that is staunchly against alcohol. During sermons every PowerPoint slide about sin depicts people drinking alcohol. It distracts from real sins that are infesting our lives, and are strangely absent from the sermons

This may be the most balanced teaching on this topic I have ever heard. Most of which I have already read and believed for a long time from my own studies, but have never heard heard taught from the pulpit. Kudos Mike for the courage to teach this truth.

What an absolutely well rounded, gracious, researched and Godly message. I grew up with my dad being a Presbyterian pastor and although he casually would drink wine or a beer at home, never once saw him drunk or haven drank too much. I learned a lot from that example of moderation and enjoying the freedom in Christ.

Next month will be 2 years since I took my last drink and I was a daily drinker, not a drunk (I may be kidding myself) but at least a glass of wine ... or two ... weekends more. Amazingly, GOD entered my life, I was born again and I never thought about taking another drink, NOT ONCE. I never withdrew and never desired it again (I gave away almost $2000 of very good wine I had collected). When GOD sends us the Holy Spirit, physiological changes also happen to us ... miraculous things happen in our lives. Peace and love to everyone ❣️

This is the exact conclusion I came to when studying this topic on my own several years ago. Something I came away with, wasn't just "do not be led astray by alcohol", but that the running theme in scripture is: "do not be led astray **BY ANYTHING**."

I'm a homebrewer and a Christian. Beer and wine making is a craft that takes a long time to master. People go to school and go through mentorships for years to be professional brewers. I can totally understand how this could used as a tithe, as part of "first fruits" back in the day. As a brewer, it would make no sense to give my lower tier "sweet wine" over my good aged wine. So of course it's going have good heap of alcohol content. But, it's not just about the ABV. The ABV is the bi-product of a full flavorful drink. The good wine requires lots of time, attention, and respect of the process. This is what makes it the more quality wine over the quicker "sweeter" version. The sermon makes perfect sense in that regard. For example, I make a stout that really needs about 9-12 months to age before it's really good that I save for Christmas time and give out to family. So I have to prepare for this by around no later than March to be ready for December. The high amount of grain is what makes it really thick and good, but the bi-product is it also makes it highly alcoholic (for a beer). This is an example of that "good aged wine". Not the watered down stuff. But, you drink ONE in a sitting, and no more. And, only after dinner! I love fizzy drinks so I also make a lot of hop infused sparkling waters (no alcohol) and experiment with ultra low and non-alcoholic recipes on occasion because I like the grain and hop flavors without the alcohol. I brew a lot of low ABV beers because I enjoy the fermented drink while minimizing the alcohol. I guess not a lot of doctrine in my comment, but more about the thing itself.

As an early teen i was both compliant and bookish. My pastor at the time, an individual who had turned from the abuse of alcohol, preached that the wine referred to in the bible didn't contain alcohol. One afternoon in the library i took it upon myself to find a historical reference to support this since I had never seen one before. Of course I failed. In my case, I found so much love and support within the Church, that i came to the correct conclusion that my pastor was wrong, not that Christianity was wrong. However, I am grateful for this balanced expression of the position alcohol should take in out lives. Especially for young Christians truth is far more valuable than a well intended wrong belief.

I actually preached this to my home church congregation. I straight up said look at the freedom we have and also the responsibility to balance it out. The following week a member told me he the message helped him spend a week sober for the first time in years... Like freedom in Jesus is powerful. This is a great teaching.

From an addict perspective one drink is way to much coz it's an opening for an ending struggle while one million of it is never enough..but to all who are suffering from addiction let's us ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit rather than drinking wine

I couldn't imagine a life without alcohol, let alone a day. I was severely alcoholic and suffered horrible withdrawal bender after bender for almost 10 years. I always had a tremendous tolerance and never acted drunk or uncontrolled; I appeared relatively sober to others with a .371 BAC. But I couldn't stand the lying and shame. I sang in my head the song/scripture "Create in me a clean heart..." for what was likely a few days on and off as I suffered withdrawal and going back to the drink. I detoxed and have been sober for almost 3 years. I don't want any "congratulations". I just want anyone scanning the comments to know that life on the other side is so much better. I had some fun times, but it's not worth it whatsoever. Today, I couldn't imagine a life in which I would even want to drink.

One night, I got really drunk for twenty years. That ended three years ago when I picked up God’s word.

The Bible clearly states that drinking alcohol is not sinful, but getting drunk is. In other words: If you know you *don't* have the willpower to drink in moderation, don't drink at all. If you *do* have the willpower to drink in moderation, enjoy that glass of wine. 😊

I learned a lot about responsibility from my uncle who was a sober alcoholic for 40 years. He went through AA and I’m pretty sure God saved him from death. He totally had alcohol in his house. He drove his wife to wineries. He picked his adult kids up from clubs. He understood that it was his weakness and not theirs. Great man.

I was saved at the beginning of this year. 2020 has been such a massive blessing from the LORD. Raised in church my whole life. Never followed Christ and at 32yo God rescued me from Himself to Himself. This year has been the most radical year of my life and the most fulfilling, sin recognizing, bible reading, Jesus loving, bible learning, prayerful, love finding, love recognizing, God loving year of my life. Said all that to say this: I've done a morning radio show for 6 years in my small town. Very secular. Very sinful. Exited the show almost immediately. 1 Cor. 10:31 "...whatever you eat, drink, whatever you do, do for the glory of God." Next Sunday God has blessed me to start a Christian show on the same country music station I used to do mornings. One day per week. Sunday. This video has blessed me in a huge way of showing me the proper way to talk about and present sides. Very very well done. God has certainly richly blessed you. Glory to Him. If you know someone is an alcoholic or struggles with sobriety that would be an example of not drinking in thier presence so not to offend them cause then to stumble. Also there was another verse about "give wine to heavy hearted." Prov 31:6-7

I grew up with an alcoholic father. Alcoholism plagued my family...dad, brother, sister. I can take it or leave it but because of my family history, I wouldn't touch it. My husband likes to drink every so often. It helps him with the physical pain he deals with every day. I had huge issues with him drinking. Christ changed me. I now can enjoy a beer with friends or take a shot of whiskey if I am sick.

I've been trying to quit drinking alcohol for a couple of years now. I've been drinking 38 years of my 52 years alive. I've lived thru about 5 major car wrecks, me drinking and driving, never killed anyone or went to a hospital just totalled the vehicle. Never had a DWI. I had made up my mind that this day, Sept.12 2021 would be my first day of sobriety for life and then I see this video on the same day! Great video.

As someone who has completely quit drinking alcohol … my reason is bc I refuse to be compromised any longer. Alcohol is worldly. Partaking in drinking is a worldly thing and that’s exactly why I did it when I was still in the world and I refuse to have mixture with the world any longer.

I was in an abusive relationship and turned to drinking, lying, and cheating. After my dad died and I got into legal trouble, I realized I needed to stop drinking. With a clear head, I got out and met a wonderful lady. By God's grace, we're on our road to repentance. If you're in a bad relationship, pray and get out fast. The deeper the hole, the harder it is to fill. Drinking isn't always bad, but be careful not to lose control. God is good!!

As a member of the US army, one interesting thing I learned is that a person’s morphine tolerance (though this may actually apply to other painkilling drugs) is directly linked to the amount of pain that they are in. The more pain, the more morphine can be given. If a person is not in pain, that same dose will actually kill them.

I once had 'good wine' 35 year old red wine. (a bottle that had been recommended to age and had been forgotten for all that time) When I drank it it was like the sweetest of water. Almost clear, I had to ask a connoisseur in the group was it good wine because it tasted like nothing I'd tasted. I rarely drink. He had a big smile. Yes this was good wine. My mother drinks to numb the pain and is taking pharmakeia as well. Her demons are having her believe she's already too far gone; so she may as well drink the pain away. She does not see that she is making herself asleep to the truth while she lies on her deathbed.... when JESUS WANTS HER AWAKE AND ALIVE! Pray for Maureen 💓🙌💓 Praise God I came back into her life before she ended it. 7 years no talking and now I am ready to help her find Christ. Thank you Jesus. You are always on time

This is probably the best, most thorough teachings I have heard on alcohol. Thank you for this scriptural study. Great for helping those who do over indulge understand what God intended.

What I’ve learned from God Himself. We can use EVERYTHING on Earth, but not abuse it. Balance in everything we do.

I was studying this same thing recently, haha. No reason in particular. Thank you for this! I love Biblically accurate teaching. Makes my soul happy :) I personally stay away since at one point I struggled with it.. A family member on Christmas day was actually criticizing a Christian for drinking. So I told them what scripture says about so they could be informed. They were a little stumped that they were called out with scripture, but now they'll know.
