Great that you first explained the name. To combat the underwear associations that popped up instantly when hearing it.

I love the fact that you mentioned insular dwarfism in reticulated pythons! That is such a fascinating subject.

I have to admit when I saw the title, I automatically thought "Underwear Dragon!" even though I know the naming system for life forms doesn't work that way... or shouldn't. The trouble with using jokes or pop-culture references in naming biological things is that, in a couple of hundred years ( let alone a couple of thousand) unless there is a record of the joke or pop culture reference laid down too, future scientists aren't going to have a clue why the poor organism ended up with such a bizarre and out of place name!

I loathe the frivolous pop-culture names, however I do like the new practice of acknowledging the indigenous folk of the locale in species names and/or naming the species in their language.

@@mortified776 Yeah! I love names like Mapusaurus or Maip, though with Maip I would prefer something associated with reptiles or dragons like the saurus or long used in other languages but in the local language, for me it make it look more like a scientific name or something and avoid confusion with the mythological maip.

@@carolynallisee2463 I'm from Wales myself and I thought if we were to name it the way it sounds in English, it might be something like _Nicerydraig_ (the dragon's knickers) lol

Pantydraco, expecting a dinosaur with frilly pants that looked like a dragon, just kidding! Great video, great explanation and a very in-depth look at these unique animals.

Maybe neotony has something to do with the difficulty in placement. That could also be a result of island pressure. Suddenly the juveniles are reproductive in a population collapse. Do that enough and you're a new species. The abridged version.

Sorry a bit off-topic, but an Interesting video - got me thinking about human environments, which if you think about it are human cultures. Humans can, by and large, adapt to other cultures, but they can also invade and destroy and them. Think Tibet, Rhohingya or Uyghurs as recent examples. We've lost many cultures over the millenium, and with them languages and knowledge. Internationally we seem to be drifting into a vast homogenous monoculture. Should human cultures, like nature's environments, be preserved and protected?
