The difference to me is those demons where all actually in their stones. Mephisto isn't in the stone. He is shown multiple times outside of it and even seems to have opened the red portal for her since it's not blue. That tells me the stone for him is more of a leash and that he is in control. On top of that she's talking about preparing for something that nobody else seems to know about. The same junk that the followers of Lilith would babble on about. Which means more than likely Mephisto made a deal with her and the crystal is just a physical object that helps him exit the hells and he has to remain near it but she is not even corrupted.

@@xavierdoesntmatter Prime evils are capable manipulating humans from the stones. Diablo manipulated Lazarus,Leoric and Albrecht deep from catacombs of Tristram catedral. Diablo was in the stone in case of Aidan. But Marrius caried empty stone that was used to contain Baal in Tal Rasha after Dark Wanderer (Aidan/Diablo) defeated Tyriel and set Ball free. Also in case of Mephisto - Neyrelle traped him into the stone, but since he is the smartest of all evils, that could be all part of his plan. She thinks that she is in control, but Aidan thought the same....

I don't think players hate the new class, but that we already have a "one with the earth" type of class with Druid. Paladin/Crusader class would've evened things out better at this point.

My issue has nothing to do with them bring a new class to the expansion, it has everything to do with them constantly and arbitrarily limiting every single diablo game to 5 classes on launch. There is zero reason a paladin arch type class was not available on launch especially when you have a game like diablo with soo much legacy and lore to it. D4 should have honestly launched with 6 or 7 classes baseline to cover all the expected arch types people would want that have been created over the years of diablo games.

for the open world, I would love to see the strongholds that don't becomes towns have unique/random events. Like monsters would take those spots back or each season have different things happen in those spots after you take them over for the first time.

Maybe it was a fever dream but I thought I saw devs talk about that sort of thing before the game even released. I remember them saying we could clear spots for new "towns", but I could've sworn they said there would be a back and forth.

his understanding of grind in D2 and Uniques is laughable. If Rod made D2, than you got Tyrael's, Griffins, Jah rune and nothing else of value. And you grind for years without any rewards. D2 is awesome because it has constant progression in a loot D4 never captured and never will able in the future.

I'm one of the guys who defended D4 BECAUSE I believed it was a step AWAY from D3. But once I add everything together from no runes to refusing to bring in the Paladin I can't anymore. They have us the rouge that nobody cared for instead of.the Amazon, they refuse to bring back the Paladin or some form of holy warrior, they cram the store full of overpriced cosmetics and don't allow to trade what we want. It's all too much. It's a shame because with this season D4 is MUCH better than it was but refusing to bring back the Paladin is the final straw. I know they said they weren't bringing back the Paladin but they should've given us some form of holy warrior or at least the Amazon who was in a fashion a holy warrior. I'm looking forward to poe2 with renewed interest and with VoH dlc with disappointment.

Neyrelle can't be acting under Mephisto's influence . (i thought she was before i saw that vessel of hatred trailer) But in that trailer she says at the apex of Mephisto's influence over her " i may need some help" which means she always had her head and capacity to make sound decisions. She is then just a morron used as a plot armor. Which is stupid because she is supposed to be smart.

It was extremely anti-climactic. Marvel laugh while being tormented by a demon... Neyrelle is definetly an idiot because it's badly written, there's not enough setup for her to be a stronger than the original dark wanderer and yet she's presented as she can laugh of Mephisto tearing her soul apart.

They've already done Paladin and Crusader. The only one missing is Templar which would also fill the sword 'n board role but they could add new ideas as well.

On the Wings note. It would be nice to have some option to disable visibility of lore/immersion unfriendly cosmetics on other players... But i doubt the Salesdepartment would be okey with something like that.

I'm thinking abilities that are tied to spiritually bonded animals that empower you to do attacks based on them. Possibly even different animal stances like the monks used to have in World of Warcraft.

One thing to note, Nahantu is a big part of Kehjistan. Kurast was a huge city in the heart of Nahantu, and when we were playing through Act 3 in Diablo 2, the jungle was actually the ruins of Kurast, which is connected to Travincal. The jungle grew because of Mephisto's influence. So in Act3 of D2 we've seen only the city and the Zakarum's main temple. Now with Nahantu we have a lot of potential for size. I also noticed how it feels like Mephisto is leading Neyrelle back to Travincal. Sure, in her mind she's looking for Akarat's tomb, but I think it's misdirection from Mephisto.

As much as I think this is the best art design the series has had so far, I've been saying since the beginning that the carry-overs from D2 game design were an anchor around the neck of this. Much of D3's success is that its time from a new character to an interesting, comprehensible build and associated loot hunt is extremely tight once you know what you're doing - this makes it extremely replayable, which is simply a better game loop than grinding a slow trickle of new content for a 1 in a million chance at an item you only know even exists from outside-the-game sources. Also, and while I'm aware of the power-creep and build limitations associated with it, the lack of set armor to collect (and the motivating checklist) is a huge barrier to casual and intermittent play - my partner loves playing the game together, but she's never, ever going to spend hours every season designing a build and mapping out a paragon board, and so found the game unmotivating after a point.

Funny, I feel the complete opposite. What you say makes D3 replayable is exactly what I find atrocious about the game. I much prefer the big hits of loot, but less often (like in D2) over the slow trickle, and it's not even close. Just thankful PD2 exists.

@@girthpapi I'm sure it works for some people, but most people (even ARPG players) don't play a single game for thousands of hours, and a game designed around builds that gates key items behind that (plus RNG), is setting itself up for the kind of problems that D4 is now having to address.

@@GorgonautAnimation 1k hours into the game? I played for 2 full weeks at s4 lunch, had a blast. Got fully geared my 1 sorc, started lvling another when goblin xp bonus dropped, got it to max with different build, I doubt that's even 200h played. And... I feel like I beat the game over and over again. They changed their philosophy from lvling up to gearing up drastically. I remember S1, took me some time to hit that lvl 100. Now? Instant. Yep, there is a lot to do with tuning your gear, thats what keeps me motivated but then again, if I cared about getting the basic build together, I'd be long gone from this season after 7 days. D3 was extreme example and so was D2. D4 didn't land in between, it's where they should aim for, instead of 1 or another

There is a very interesting concept from the movie Jungle Cruise. It features characters that are semi-undead conquistadors that have "merged" with the jungle. They can, if I remember well, manipulate the jungle, have some dark magic abilities while still being warriors. This concept could fit quite well for this extension. It could have elements of a witch doctor, an amazon, death knight - and as far as we know, the spiritborn, and especially have paladin elements (sword and shield) as well. Plus the Iberian aspect which would lead to some interesting inspirations, diversifying the forever-blond and germanic-looking paladin. I think this is very interesting.

The thing with the pit in D4 is not really the health and damage of the normal monsters in the pit, but the boss itself, like I clear the pit mobs in 2 minutes. but the boss seems like a huge jump in power

The bosses are ridiculously overtuned. The red ghosts are the only thing that kill me, the boss itself is ajoke with a brick wall of HP.

@@alcovitch Would be better if sight wasn't such a problem on the mechanics. Sand colored floor with slightly lighter colored swirly being instant death is insane... not to mention the random uber lilith waves coming across.... I've just stopped at tier 105. I can do more, but I would like a better balance. I feel like I should ditch my build for something more boss oriented at this point.

@@Falthad Forget it, there is no real point pushing above 105. It's just a number at this point (beyond 101) and there is no leaderboard even (like d3 had one for GRS). The extra mats you get from 102++ are reduced, or w/e. I have a blast build that I am currently just trying to do faster and faster 101s xD I ran some 110 once, took me 6 mins (3 for boss) and I got 65 mats. 9 ranks of pit for 5 mats basically. Pointless :D

Not sure if you'll see this @Rhykker, but that is not the reason why people loved Diablo II. I don't know how Blizzard or Rod came to that conclusion and my only assumption is that they are or were not Diablo II players themselves. What people love about Diablo II loot, and why it endured for so long, was the loot was easy to digest and understand. It doesn't take a spreadsheet to understand what the gear progression is, or what your eventual BiS item will be. The existence of trading from the getgo of Diablo II also meant that it wasn't ONE player farming for three years, but an entire community farming repeatedly. This allowed people to gear up relatively quickly by trading SoJs or HRs and a little bit of luck. Absolutely no one in the history of Diablo II has ever been excited to run Travincal 50,000 times to get a HR. It has all the hallmarks of a game that is designed in two different parallels, one for solo play, and one for group play. Although there are D2 players that only have ever played solo, they are by far the minority. I legitimately have over 15-18,000 hours across Diablo II & absolutely would have bounced off of it if it took 3 years to get the loot I needed even 20 years ago.

Wings were great in D3, but I don't really think they fit the aesthetic of D4. Should've just went with gilded cloaks and capes if they wanted something "flashy" but still grounded to the dark theme.

Yeah, everyone has wings at WB/Legion events now. It is disgusting. If new multiplayer activity will be required in expansion I probably just quit playing D4 (don't want to see all this cartoony stuff)

Major item I disagree with you/Rod on in regard to Diablo 2 references is they never went far enough into D2 itemization. You can’t make items take years to find AND no trading. A big piece of Diablo 2 itemization is the economy. Implementing similar drop rates in a vacuum without considering the other elements of itemization within the game is either idiotic or they didn’t want it to work. In addition to that, the itemization was never fleshed out enough in D4 at launch to determine if something closer to D2 would work imo. It was a lot more similar to D3 or maybe D2 vanilla, but never made it far enough to be considered anything close to D2LoD.

I think Season 5 will come with real Social Features. I mean they are necessary for the raids in the addon, and we stil, have none of them. Maybe they even try to beta test some of the raid mechanics in a season 5 theme

I think social features will come but my guess is not for S5, probably for S6/expansion. I'm wondering if S5 will have the armoury, to save loadouts and change builds on the fly. That's been like the number 1 request for so long now.

Spiritborn class skills were datamined, allegedly. Its a witch doctor. Only difference being instead of Zombie familiars, they'll be tree-related. The only question marks, if the leak is true, are the "soar" abilities. Though, one sounds like a variation of the Barb's Leap skill.

@@Seanidor it sounds like it. Bat swarm. Most likely similar to cloud of bats. Forrest guardian. Zombie dog variation Tree Warden. Golem variation There's other witch doctor-y sounding skills like viper pit, leech harvest, Dreadful Spiders, etc. Again, this is my own speculation, on an alleged list of skills. But, sounds witch doctor-y, to me. The other skills listed, however, seem to be flight based. Which is interesting. Razor wings, soar, one skill listed as Sky-core. Livestream in July, to break the class down. I suppose we'll find out then.

I Issue with the Uber Uniques, Imo, is that there were/are so few other uniques to bridge the gap and many of which were either underwhelming, or required or your build was shite (looking at you Tempest Roar). Which takes a slot from your legendary aspect pool. Which on classes other than Barb and Rogue, meant a huge detraction from your characters power as some builds need every single Aspect slot to make their skills work right. and it felt bad if you didn't go that route.

Yeah surprise maybe by a 15 bugs fee or something. it's amazing how low our expectation is nowadays on blizzard game. The fact that the game released with 5 completely generic classes and we have to pay 40 bugs for an irrelevant additional story played once (and will be forgotten again soon), an area that will look the same anyway with helltide and a class no one is asking for. I just hope the expansion pack is optional for seasonal content, because its hilarious that they think after unterperforming a year with this game they have the right to get our money again. Sure season 4 is okay now, but it is actually just d3 with less content but better graphics still. Had fun with d4, but man I can't wait for poe2 instead of giving this company any money anymore.

Neyrelle is definitely stupid. She took off the second she had the stone, no time to corrupt. The D4 characters might have been bickering but maybe stick with the people who just whomped 2 lesser evils and the progeny of a greater evil. Coming up with new classes is fine but do it on your own time when there’s a very conspicuous gap in the roster people are hollering for. Especially when we’re heading to the region of origin for that missing class.

Sorcerer took such an L this patch. All because it was doing well in the pit with flameshield cheese. I'm not inclined to use that build since it requires really high stat gear, way more min/max-ing than any other build, all to do pretty bad damage(but hey, at least infinite flameshield, right?🙄)

Sorcs need a lot of rework. The patch is very small buffs to any kind of lackluster damage output that they have, an update to a key passive that is completely pointless due to the other ways that you can get CDR, and a bunch of defensive changes that are completely irrelevant because of the current meta being infinite flame shield. Sorc need pretty much BiS gear to even barely compete with other classes like barb, rogue, necro while those other classes dont need BiS to perform. My sorc at 12/12 masterwork with some pretty good farmed gear was barely able to push through 65-70 pit. My rogue on the other hand was pushing 80's before he was even level 100. The power fantasy part of the game just isn't there for sorc and this patch does nothing to help with that. Assuming that they will eventually have to fix sorc ability to be permanently invulnerable with flame shield cheese, they are going to need to add some other mechanic. Personally, i dont want to see just big damage percentage stacking buffs on sorc but maybe a 3rd enchantment slot, or being able to use both staff and wand/focus so that we can actually take advantage of some of the unique weapons? in fact, reworking enchantment slots needs to be done anyway. you basically only get 1 since you are forced into fire bolt in every build.

My biggest issue with poe is the fact that if i want to experiment with a build, i need to create a new character. You basically need to spend hours plotting out your build before you even start playing. I don't have that kind of time.

If you guys are having sound issues, there's a new setting that KZfaq rolled and didn't publicly announce. If you go to settings on any video you'll see a "stable audio" option turned on by default, that's why the volume is weird. Just uncheck it. 😉If that doesn't fix it, then it's probably the source audio that's messed up

But I still wish to receive the benefit of the extra content. But you are right about not pleasing everyone. As long as that there isn't some unobtainable currency or gear there in which case you've locked out a chunk of players that may feel similarly.

Ikr. I was feeling charitable because I think they have done some course correction, so I bought one of their ridiculously overpriced outfits for my rogue. And I felt a little embarrassed about it. Don't sweat it, we'll have new wings on day 1 of the expansion for $20-$35 and they'll look better than the preorder.. as normal by Blizzard to ensure the people who paid $40 for content, but $50 for digital cosmetics, will purchase the nicer looking wings again, Blizzard triple dipping as always. Some odd audio going on in this video, Rhykker. Might be worth having a look at your compression settings. Sounds like a compressor coming in *really* hard when you hit the threshold (often with your plosives), and then takes a couple of seconds to release.

Runewords ruined d2 gear system and sets destroyed d3.. If they can manage a useful balance that's fine but it's overly dominating and the farming for those is already going to conflict further with other gear. That's a really good point about the naming of a class. "Spirit Born" doesn't say enough. It sounds like a Prestige class or Advanced class (as many games do, PoE, Last Epoch, Pathfinder, older versions of D&D, etc.) to a basic class like "Monk" or "Shaman." If I had to guess, I'd guess the Spirit Born will play a lot like a melee rogue...But instead of traps it might have auras or summoned spirits?

D4 is just +main stat on gear. Sure in d2 it took years to find Tyraels might but you could find Tarnhelm in act1 normal that would get you all the way to hell. With +main stat any gear you find before end game is useless. You cant just increase grind +main stat because all gear is useless when you level up.

They fundamentally misunderstood what made D2 good. 1) The game launched with far too few uniques and most of those uniques are completely overshadowed by legendaries (this was done by their own design). 2) It may takes years to grind out a holy grail but most of the items you actually wanted for a build in D2 were far more obtainable than a Mang Song's or Tyrael's. 3) Most player power in D2 came from leveling, and gear was the cherry on top. Gear is far more important in D4 and combined with restrictive trade (this has now been eased), made the grind for gear far more cumbersome. Anyways, I'm not trying to make a D2 vs D4 argument. I love D2 for what it is and I'm very happy with the direction that D4 is going. Seems the D4 devs have found their stride. _(EDIT)_ formatting

@@memory_nullyeah exactly what I thought. The leveling should be longer to get to the 100 but the paragon should get bonuses when you enter a second ,third , fourth page. That would make leveling useful. Add synergies on power like D2 had could be really nice too. Get points in charge even if you use leap . It reduce the cooldown. Out points into the last blood skills should also increase the damage or aoe of early powers.

This statement in general is incorrect. D4 was never like D2. Barely and uniques at launch, no rune words and skill trees that actually matter. Rune words are the key to what makes D2 amazing. Spending weeks trying to find that precious Jah rune is a blast. D4 is just a whole new game really. It's not inspired by D2 or even D3 at all prior to this season. In this season they decided to just choose to throw out the D2 vets in favor of the D3 vets. D4 is just dead imo now.

In regards to season 5 I'm not sure if anyone's said it yet but I think there is a decent possibility the major change for season 5 will be a multiplayer overhaul. It makes sense that we are receiving all of these major changes right before the expansion and if the new mode is indeed raids then it would also make sense for them to improve the multiplayer support before vessel of hatred too.

the spirit born looks AMAZING. I'm a huge fan of Aztec/Mesoamerican style. 9:45 and you took the words right out of my mouth. here's what i was thinking: i think it's going to be a main combat style similar to monk, fast and agile. the status effects and spell skills are going to be similar to witch doctor. and then the physical skills are probably going to be close to the Amazon, throwing your glaive, maybe some cool passives as the Amazon had an amazing passive tree. granted all this would have to be crammed into their minimal skill tree. one node each would be fine i suppose XD.

Sets also ruined d3 and were mostly useless in d2 because runewords reigned supreme, it was only because there was a lack of other options that a set piece and only specific ones could be used. Set items are just not a good thing, especially if they continue to provide basic handouts for the season journey.

I really think we should be able to get all slots on the paragon boards eventually. Balance would have to be cajiggered with appropriate content to allow it, but that is a whole lot of progression left out of end game. I don't see any downside. It would allow for more in game build discovery and not having the need to spend hours respec'ing and spreadsheeting because you can just ease yourself into a new build by continuing your paragon progression.

It's nothing like Diablo 2. I like how the one thing they picked was the grind for Uber uniques.Maybe making the gear options, stats, and jewels system, and weapons system more like 2 it would have been good. No map overlay as well. Having a belt with potions that added stats was great. Not a big fan of having to always generate mana with attacks. But I guess I am an old boomer who thinks Diablo 2 is still the best version. Seems more like Diablo 3 from the start to me.

Ehh, I've played them all since they launched, back to D1. D2 will always be the gold standard, but to say this is closer to D3 in game play is the gaming equivalent of "get off my lawn!" And I couldn't stand D3, like most adults.

I like diablo 4, but yeah for Rod Fergusson to say that they were trying to make D4 like D2 truly shows how ignorant they are about what made D2 great. Which is a shame.

The mana/energy/whatever generation in this game is complete garbage. Who wants to only be able to use the skill the build is designed to use only a few times until you're out of energy? That is of course, unless you grind laboriously, and then get lucky with tempers, for just the right affixes (reduced cost, increased regen, etc), that makes the build actually playable and not a chore. Keeping in mind that mana management affixes COULD have been damage or survival related (I'm looking at you Sorcerer). Don't get me started on the rogue's combo point system. How clunky. Thank goodness for Heartseeker this season.

Sorry Rhykker but, while I respect your opinion, I massively disagree. The D4 dev team should be focused on creating more interesting and expanded versions of the time-proven classes, at least before anything else. - Paladin - Amazon - Warrior The classes that fit the well-loved archetypes should come first. Things like the "Spiritborn" should have come later, after we have the classes that fit each basic archetype.

What is the difference between an archetype and a class? How do you define "basic" archetypes, and why is it important for other people to recognize your definition? What kind of evidence can you provide to support your argument? How is the Warrior a proven class in Diablo when it has only been in a single iteration and was never balanced correctly? How can you prove that the Warrior is a "basic" archetype for the entire player base? IMO, Ryker's opinion aligns far more with the player base than yours does.

@@oourdumb You chose the right word for your username. Look at literally all fantasy games. Warrior, Rogue and Mage. The three class archetypes. Pretty obvious I’d say. What we have are the Barb, the Rogue, the Sorcerer, the Necromancer and the Druid. We have 3 individual magic users who fall into the mage archetype. We have the Rogue. But we haven’t had a spear-centric class since D2. The Amazon fits the Rogue archetype and would be perfect for the spear class. Barb is a warrior, but has no sword and board. The Paladin is missing, as well as the Crusader, both holy sword and board classes under the warrior archetype. The point is, nobody cares about getting a new and unknown class more than they care about getting the basics that are seen in all fantasy. I don’t dislike the idea of new classes, I’m sure Spiritborn will be cool, but they should have focused on balancing the class fantasies first before adding unique concepts.

Bruh that's what D2 was. I spent over 20 years on that game and even went into plugy as well. You could farm forever and not find the most rare items. People started the holy grail challenge for that reason in the game. Yeah it was grindey. Hell it took forever to even get 100.

$40 for 1 extra class, 60 for a costume or $90 for a wing cosmetic? I'll wait until a week after release when the $40 DLC drops by 80%

You're hilarious to think the game will go on sale at all, this is pretty standard to have a new class, story expansion area new items and so on. The other option for games for higher price points was never a good bargain it's not meant to be but people are dumb so they eat it up, just the base 40$ is all you need. Elden ring is 50$ for it's expansion it's a new zone and decently sizeable at that with new weapon types etc. Destiny 2 you basicslly have to pay the 100$ for if you want season content which you normally do among other things, it's by far the worst one I've seen compared to other games.

@@yulfine1688 It will 100% go on sale. And no its not standard for a single class. D2 got 2 classes in theirs. Elden Ring also earned its spot. Its proven to be pretty much loved by all who played it. D4 cant say that. D4 also was sold as something it wasn't and the paid wings prove it. That's not what was sold. The price of $40 is NOT the problem. The problem is the game took a year to get to a state people enjoy enough to come back hence the numbers FINALLY going up. Then right when that happens... pay more to keep playing is pretty much what is being said. They missed a massive opportunity to earn good faith with the community who preorderd the base game and stuck around this entire time by not giving a 50% discount to the level you preordered. If you got ultimate base then you get 50% off ultimate, mid to mid, base to base etc. Destiny 2 is not a good example to use here... the level of backlash that game got was deserved and is shown to be scummy. $40 for one class and a campaign extension/zone is not good value for the money. Raids and mercs could EASILY been seasonal additions like Andy and Duriel. S3 had a merc already. Raids is just going to be world boss but in dungeon form. Again, easily seasonal. Immortal is free and gets more new content and classes for free. That is a big problem. Not to mention new players to the game pretty much get the expansion for free... its only 70 for both base and exp. People who paid 100 for ultimate base are getting a massive slap in the face when they see that.

thinking of things from other games, there are instanced raids that are party based, but you can choose to enter alone for the challenge, and then there are open global raids. FFXI did that. I like trying to either solo or low man something, but i also like the option for big group. heres hoping the devs do well with it.

I really stongly feel we need a Player Profile page that accumulates all the progress we've made across all characters and seasons. How many enemies we've killed, how many hours, how many characters. WHAT WE ACHIEVED EACH SEASON. I feel this is probably one of the most important thing they need to add to help people feel that they haven't wasted their time before it's all started again. I know this is what arpgs are about but seriously, a player profile would just make this game soooooo much more fulfilling, IMO
