GOSPEL: Lk 5:1-11
While the crowd was pressing in on Jesus and listening to the word of God, he was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret. He saw two boats there alongside the lake; the fishermen had disembarked and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, he asked him to put out a short distance from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. After he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch.” Simon said in reply, “Master, we have worked hard all night and have caught nothing, but at your command I will lower the nets.”
Jesus got into Peter's boat. Just like that: He jumped in, without being invited. He «asked him to put out a short distance from the shore». And from there, Jesus taught the crowds.
Jesus didn’t teach only in the temple, but anywhere… everywhere. He taught on the mount, on the seashore, in the synagogue, of course, and in the temple, but also on the road to Jericho, to Samaria, to Bethany or to Emmaus. Jesus taught us from a manger, from a carpenter's bench, and, like today, from the boat of the fishermen.
That boat was his living and his life. Apart from his house, Peter spent more time on that boat than in any other place. When Jesus decided to start transforming it, to kick off this radical reform, He didn’t go to Rome, to spread the word from the heart of the Roman Empire, from the Senate and the emperor's court… He chose a fisherman's boat.
In the same way that Peter’s boat became the pulpit of God, so is my desk.
I have to transform the world allowing You, Jesus, to preach from my boat, like Peter. And my boat may be my desk, my counter, my truck, my sickbed, the kitchen top, hospital beds, the guard hut…
And St Peter’s nets may be for you some gardening tools, your taxi, your wrench and your screwdriver, your till, your scalpel, your keyboard or your running shoes.

"Why the halfling?"
Gandalf:
"Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. It is the small everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keep the darkness at bay. Small acts of kindness
