It is very important to watch an equine chiropractor work before letting them adjust your horse. Anyone who is not a human chiropractor or a veterinarian should never adjust your horse as it is illegal in most states and they will not have appropriate training. This is all solid advice. I had the same Chiropractor for 8 years on my sorrel. He always needs his L3 L5 adjusted. My horse was always treated gently and his movement afterwards was improved dramatically. He has recently retired and i tried a new guy out that everyone uses around scottsdale. He wrecked him. Used the activator, and was too physical. take heed of his warnings

Bless you for taking the time and having the care factor to make these videos. We have to have our horses adjusted A LOT! They are commercial carriage horses and well earn their keep... I'm just not sure who to trust. This information has helped a lot!

thank you for sharing these tips! I have used a horse chiropractor in the past, but he's now retired, so I am on the look out for another. But I really wan't sure how to know a good one from a bad one. Thank you so much for your wisdom and advice, everything you said makes perfect sense!

I've used Mark several times when he lived in eastern WA state. He's amazing! Horses don't fake it and there is no placebo effect with them. My mare was limping when she walked out of the trailer at Mark's place, and an hour later she could trot with no head bob. He's the most gentle chiropractor I've ever used on a horse. He really opened my eyes to the reality of vaccines, too. I love this guy, and it breaks my heart that he moved to TX.

I agree with you that a human activator tool does not have enough force to be used on a horse, but there is an animal adjusting tool (I believe it's the tool you had in your hand) that can be calibrated to adjust any sized horse. I have been utilizing this tool along with manual techniques on horses for many years with amazing results. In my opinion it is one of the safest equine adjusting techniques and it is rare that I come across a horse who will not tolerate the sound.

it is Illegal in the USA, however, in the UK the McTimoney Corley institute of equine chiros is highly respected, and we do not have to be human qualified. We are extremely well trained and very proficient at what we do...we are also insured.

You have peaked my curiosity. I understand your reasoning behind not using an activator on horses, but have you adjusted small animals such as dogs and cats? What's your opinion on using an activator on them, specifically the smaller breeds of dogs and cats?

Thanks for the video, there isn't enough about equine chiropractic in the main stream. Unfortunately I think you are doing a disservice to many chiros out there including myself and my father who have been adjusting horses with unbelievable results using primarily mallets for about 40 years on every level from the olympics to the farm. Not only is mallet adjusting highly specific, but much easier on the chiropractor's body. Think about the forces involved -

in a pelvic, lumbar, or even thoracic equine subluxation, and the forces needed to correct those aberrant mvmt patterns. Sure they may be perceived as threatening at first, but so are needles and manual adjustments, should we dogmatically avoid those too? I agree that your choice should be based on credentials, professional ethics, experience, and animal handling/demeanor, but mallet technique performed by a skilled practitioner can be highly safe and effective regardless of your opinion.

I know this is an old post but I just used a chiropractor yesterday who used mallets and he did wonderfully for my horse. Joker, a known 'kick first ask questions later' type guy when he is uncomfortable stood completely still and never offered to lift a foot in protest. I was amazed. Not to mention he visually looks better and today, the day after, was prancing around feeling good & full of energy. He's usually quite pokey. I agree that the work with the mallet was very effective and the guy was very skilled at what he was doing.

The man defends veterinarian and MD Chiroprator only. This is only because of lobbying by vets to corner market on equine body and dental work. Vets may only have a couple hours of class time on dental but they are only ones allowed by law. Lawyers made that possible. An MD doesn’t mean they’re capable of surgery and a veterinarian license doesn’t make them good vets or qualified to do specific treatments or modalities.
