Last year I hunted over a field that had been groomed down to bare dirt with a little stubble and lots of seeds. I used 6 clip on decoys and didn't have a motion deke. The clip ons were put on stakes and placed in a small group about 20yds out. I would definitely say they make a difference on bare ground. I had lots of birds come close whereas the guy next to me, with no decoys, didn't get nearly as many shots.

I guess eye/ear protection aren't on your essentials list? In TX we usually wear snake boots too. its not uncommon to see a shorts/snake boots combo bc its so flippin hot. Game guard south texas camo shirts are the standard issue dove attire around these parts because they are light weight and breath well.

I use a shell pouch like what one would use for shooting clays. I like it over the dove belts. I can get a box of shells and hulls in it and still have room to add a dove or two in case I can't make it to my bucket before the next bird comes by. It's a lot smaller on the waist than the designed bird/dove belts.

It seems like dove season is the only season that is the same for just about all of the states. 19 days until one of my favorite days of the year!!!!!

My dove vest is a net style vest and I also have a belt. I don't go to crazy on the camo but target the shaded areas close to water. Our spot has both food and water close together which makes it easy to set up on a good flight path. Good luck every one these season.

I started hunting dove in 1964 and this is pretty good advise! I wear a very light tee Joe Camel tee shirt and some double knee khaki pants plus my old DU committee hat. Depending on whit whom I'm hunting but water for during the hunt and beer for after the hunt and during the cleaning of the birds. I use one of the pop-out chairs sold at Harbor Freight for under 20 bucks. I have used the bucket but I'm an old man now and enjoy my comfort!!! My trusty bird vest of course, I bought it in the 70s and it's worn in. I bring out several boxes of shells, some years I'm on and some years not so much! Last year I got my 15 birds with one box and had 3 shells left. It was an on opener!! I wear my old upland boots just to keep the sand and weeds out. One partner uses the spinner and decoys, I think they help. The other friends don't bother, your call! One of my old partners used the bucket swivel chair. We had so many birds come in on us from every direction he got so excited picking a target he fell off of his bucket!!! I miss that man beyond words!! This is a very good video and the only thing I have never used is that skeeter thing? Only time I'm bothered by skeeters is the first few weeks of duck season. Then I just use 100% Deet.

Great Video... Moved from up north to the south and had never dove hunted prior to moving down since my old state didn’t have dove hunting. For those that haven’t done it, it’s a blast. As long as the doves are flying, lots of action. Some of the only hunting that’s very communal, the more the merrier. Just know where people are before you shoot.

Another solid thing that always works is a dove tree to give you a little bit more visibility then put a mojo on the top

In Texas I always wear snake boots in the field. To Increase the recovery of a downed bird, I don’t take my eyes off the marked dove. I walk directly to the marked area and not watching where I step. Taking eyes off area greatly increases the chance of losing the dove. Never had an issue but feel safer.

The only add-on's I have are sunglasses, cooler with drinks on ice (and the dead doves chill here). But good video, I love planning a hunt

If you are hunting under or near a power line take a fishing rod and tie a clip on decoy to it and throw it over the power line and then just reel the decoy up to the power line and doves will see that decoy from far away and they will come to it

For those like me that hunt 3 hours or more from the house and make a multi day hunt...Keep at the truck water tank/storage for cleaning birds. I like the blue sq ones with controlable water flow spout, 5 gallon size. 1gallon zip lock bags with sharpie pen for bird storage. Soap and paper towels to clean up with. Shears to clean up the wing bones. bones will puncture ziplock if there sharp and you loose the bag for freezing. Our lease has a rule take the wings/carcass out so we bag all up with trash bags. We kill so many dove the coyotes cannot keep up and the place stinks after a couple weeks lol. If your on a HOT field I walk away from the truck with long sleeve camo shirt, jeans and cowboy boots (think snakes were in west Texas) hat, belt bag....ditch that vest thingy they suck. Shells and earplugs and its game on. No stool, no mojos no other stuff. I'll be back at the truck cleaning dove in short time and after the birds are cleaned don't forget the most important thing....ICE COLD ONE in the cooler with your name on it. its almost here stay safe all and have fun y'all

Just a question if anyone can help me out what kind of choke should I use for dove season if anyone has any suggestions or what type of choke to use I would really appreciate it I usually use a modified in my 12 gauge but it seemed like that last dove season I missed a lot of birds that were out at a little farther ranges so should I use a full or maybe a extended modified/ full choke?

In utah we cant start a hunt on a sunday which is september 1st so we have to wait for labor day September 2nd which sucks. Cause normally I have 3 days to hunt before heading back to work. This year I only get to hunt half of opening because of working graves. Does this rule pertain to you also in kansas
