how come you're not allowed one from an expo or online? I guess every store is different, some good, some bad, but beware some are sold with parasites, so if your parents for example dont want to spend extra money by buying it online or at an expo, they may end up pay out more on vets costs.

I made a beautiful popsicle stick house for my crestie. (He has a coconut and many other hides also). This little house is only like 5” wide and tall and I lined the inside with paper towels and filled any gaps with silicone so his toes wouldn’t get stuck anywhere. But he absolutely loves it more than anything else in his tank. Awesome diy 👌🏻

I have a male crested gecko in a 48 gallon tank, we recently upgraded it because Ross, my gecko, was 6 months old when I first got him. I’ve had him for 4 months, so he’s officially 10 months. He’s been doing perfect in his new tank. As of now I’ve had to keep his food bowls on the bottom, but am upgrading to a ledge soon. He has a sweet tooth for crickets, I’ll tell you that! The most he’s ate in a day is 9. I know they aren’t supposed to eat them much, for treats only, but I usually give him 15 a week, making sure he gets at least one a day. Your credits may not like criekcts much, but Ross loves them!! This video helped be a lot. I mean, a lot. You deserve more subs.

I am glad you recommended feeding them crickets. I got a crestie about 5 days ago and was feeding pangea since that is what the breeder told me to continue them on and that live insects were a no go. Then today I noticed my gecko running back and forth on the glass chasing crickets that were climbing in the screen cage of my chameleon. So I came here looking to see if it was safe to feed crickets; after seeing "yes", I went and dusted the smallest cricket I had and stuck it in the cage and the gecko dove from across the cage right onto the cricket. He loves them! Thank you for making his day. media.giphy.com/media/DpB9NBjny7jF1pd0yt2/giphy.gif

The lighting is the only thing that confuses me. It's like hearing a different language and I just can't comprehend it. Do you have a video for lighting on crested geckos that goes in depth and can help me understand it better?
@75bbrown
@75bbrown 4 жыл бұрын
Lighting is not required for cresties, but if you want to use one to make it easier to see them, you can use an LED strip light that won't effect the temperature. if your home stays 75F/24C up to 82F/28C you do not need a heat lamp. If you choose to use a UVB reptile bulb above the enclosure, look for one that says 5.0 UVB such as those made by Zoomed. UVB is the ultraviolet spectrum of light that helps reptiles process calcium and vitamin D, therefore ensuring strong bones as they grow. Since they are nocturnal, in the wild they don't get exposed to much direct sunlight, so there is some debate on the necessity of a UVB bulb for them. Are there specific questions about lighting you have? I can try to answer if you need it.
@FunSize_Paradise

@@75bbrown mainly how long would I need the lights on and if that truly need it or if they can survive just fine without it
@75bbrown
@75bbrown 4 жыл бұрын
@@FunSize_Paradise According to the UV Tool, crested geckos should receive 14 hours of light per day during the summer and 10 hours of light during winter, 6 months each. This helps regulate their circadian rhythms, seasonal cycling, and improves activity, appetite, and overall health. You can accomplish this by using a plug in timer that will turn the lights on and off for you at scheduled times. That being said, according to everything I have seen from major breeders, UVB lighting is NOT a requirement, as long as you are feeding appropriately sized crickets or Dubia Roaches dusted with a calcium supplement that contains vitamin D3 (such as Repashy Calcium plus)

@75bbrown
@75bbrown 4 жыл бұрын
@@FunSize_Paradise You are welcome! A word of caution though, when it comes to cresteds, if you are feeding the Pangea or Repashy powdered crested diet, you only need to dust the insects you feed, do not add any calcium to the powdered food since they are already properly formulated. Too much calcium could be harmful, just as not enough can be. Just wanted to clarify, the calcium only needs to be on the insects. Good luck with them!

Leachianus geckos cannot be housed together except with extreme caution, and only a bonded male/female pair which is rare. They will kill each other unless they are s bonded pair. Leachies need a much bigger tank, IMO, ideally they would be in at least a 50 gallon. They require more protein then cresties, and definitely more food.

My crested gecko is very odd lol. She only eats insects mainly a variety of worms and dubia roaches but refuses to eat crickets. She touches her fruit mix maybe like once a week and it's only a few licks at most. Also She soaks lmao humidity and temperature are correct but I have a bigger water dish in her enclosure and she sits in it for a few mins every night lmao

Maybe try a different flavor of food. I’ve seen reviews on some that say their geckos never really liked the fruit mix until they switched flavors

It's interesting younjusy out out this video because I'm thinking about bringing home the hatchling crestie that was idioticly shipped to my pet store. It's like 2" long and I know it won't receive the care a baby needs there.

Hey guys, I need some help real quick with my Crestie. First off, my crested gecko is named Virgil, and she(or he) is about 3 months old. My sister surprised me with her back in early March from PetSmart(I know, not the best place to get a reptile, I was originally going to go to a Reptarium close by my house, but I would never say no to a surprise). Virgil eats like a pig, she eats the Pangea Banana & Papaya which is her favorite, and about once every month I feed her two small crickets that are gut-loaded of course. I spray her tank down two times a day, once in the morning, and once in the evening to keep the humidity up. The temperature in the tank goes from 71-78 degrees F throughout the day during the summer. Shes in a 12x12x18 tank right now, with plenty of hiding spaces and areas to climb. Now heres my problem. Crested geckos are meant to shed all at once, which Virgil did when I first got her perfectly. At the time I used a ceramic heat emitter because it was cold in March, which kept the temp at about 77-81degrees F, but I dont use it anymore because the temp in the tank will more than likely hit 85 degrees F, which is far too warm for a crested gecko. For the past couple of weeks, Virgils been having a lot of issues shedding, and its been really patchy, and flaky. It doesnt come off at once, and some is stuck on her. To help her get it off, what I found is that I can get a small container (with holes on the top so she can breathe), take a damp paper towel, spray the container lightly, and let your crested gecko sit in it for 20 minutes, then take a Q-tip to lightly brush it off, which I've done multiple times, but since shes so small, theres only so much I can do for her. Now Im just waiting it out, keeping an eye on her, hoping for the best. I hope if any of you guys have had any experiences with this can help me out, I just want my baby Virgil to be okay

What is the difference between a fogger , dripper and a misting? Do they all help with the humidity ?

Can you use a heat mat on the back of the tank? I’m using a ceramic heat emitter right now but since I converted a 20 gal long into a crestie tank with a screen lid at the front with a door. The humidity is a problem. I’ve even put foil on the screen lid and it doesn’t help. I didn’t know if a heat mat would be better or not. Since the screen lid is in the front, that’s the only place I can put the CHE, and it is EXTREMELY inconvenient. Thanks!

I didnt think you were supposed to use a fogger because it could cause respiratory issues for the Gecko. A misting system is the recommendation i have seen.

This is an offhand topic to the subject of the video, but, for Christmas my parents got me a leo. And ever since then, I have not been able to handle him. I've tried to handle him, watched your videos on it, and still can not. All I can do is just look at him. Please help.

It’s okay if your gecko gets a little stressed out! Try to handle for 20 minutes a day and not to wake them up for handling until 6 pm! Try googling how to handle corpuscular geckos! (I still can’t spell it well lol)

Millie Taylor with crickets you give them egg cartons and fruits and veggies. You can keep them in a cricket keeper. Mealworms and waxworms can be kept in the fridge. Basically gutload everything with commercially made stuff or fruits and veggies :)

I’m only 13 and I have to buy everything for my gecko and these seemingly giant tanks are pricey so the max I will go is a 18” by 18” by 24” is that ok for a adult?

Try to save up for longer! And remember to have a good “back-up” budget in case of vet or food issues! I wouldn’t recommend getting one if you can’t afford a 45 x 45 x 60 as my crestie loves to climb around in her tank! Remember if you can’t provide a high quality life for your crestie you shouldn’t get one until you can find yourself!
