During severe drought, the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) authorizes eligible Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acres for emergency haying and grazing, and the Nebraska Department of Transportation authorizes permitted haying of select roadside rights-of-ways.
These can be a valuable resource when feed is expensive and in limited supply, but there are a few things to consider.
Landowners must get permission prior to harvest.
