A few hours ago I gave my first ever interview and it was really bad. I had been preparing for this for a few days, yet it went so badly. I was hoping to give a decent interview. Felt so embarrassed and awful until I found this video. This is really helpful and certainly, the right thing I needed. Thank you so much this video made me feel better and I know now what to do next. I hope to do well the next time and someday soon maybe I will have a job.

I had an interview a couple of hours ago and it went so bad. Got so nervous and basically ruined my interview. What was so disappointing about it is that I wanted them to hear all the good things I’ve accomplished and all of my skills that fit into what they were looking for. Nothing came out of my mouth, things I dont usually say came out tho and that was just so confusing. It felt like it wasn’t me talking at all. Afterwards I just got into my car and cried. I know that with this experience it’s all about learning but I never felt so embarrassed as well stupid. This video was super helpful and everything just made more sense but I do hope they saw something in me.

This is the exact experience I had last week. I could see the shock on the interviewer's face. My interview only went for 8 minutes. I later learned that I experienced something called amylgada hijack. Stress freezes your brain and you're left with nothing. Breathing exercises can help.

I definitely botched my interview for university yesterday! It was really, really dreadful. The questions really threw me off and it was a massive fail. I keep cringing at everything I said and did. However, it taught me that the university I was interviewing for really isn’t for me so I guess everything happens for a reason :/

Hey Charley! Chin up! It's only one interview and there will be many more. You're definitely having the right mindset with it in terms of it might not being the best fit. And in interviews it becomes clearer both ways: if it's a good fit for the school/company/institution and if it's a good fit for you. Keep up the good work. Had a similar scenario. Interviewed with a grad school and BOMBED it. The questions were easy in retrospect but honestly pointless and weren't indicative of me as a person. I could have prepared and probably done better. Also my grandma died the day before so I was in a weird reflective and slowed down mood. I don't think the school was for me anyway. I didn't like my interviewer he seemed so impersonal. I already have two acceptances anyway so I should just view these interviews after the fact as practice. Because there will be more in the future! I have to say though, I kept on blanking and felt so embarrassed. Blanking and rambling. I need to practice not doing that!

What cringey things did you say? Don't worry, I once only said negative things about myself during an interview (I have no experience, I didn't do jobs in college, I have average grades, I don't have specific skills, my French is average,...). I learned that job interviews should mostly be positive.

Things are always destined to be. I wanted to go back to a job for the money and I got rejected because my "growth" wasn't great and looking back I am glad cause it was a stressful place with not so great people, and difficult work, 40 min. drive, almost fulltime, and now I am looking for better work in a better area. Keep going for the best for yourself cause no one is going to give it to you automatically.

I know this video is old but thanks it was very helpful. I have had plenty of bad interviews but recently had a uniquely bad one in that it was an internal interview. Normally a bad interview I learn and I’m reassured because I will probably never see the interviewers again. But with an internal interview I needed to address what happened with my interviewers after because I deal with them in my work already. I tried to follow your approach about having it be a teachable experience for me.

After all these years I still managed to do a bad interview. I asked for way too low salary, I didn't know if they could make a position for me (I did an open application) and they asked me a discriminating question (if I wanted children) and I always become too scared to not respond to that. I also got a lot of questions about my short job stints which always stresses me out even though I can't change it. I am this close to lying on my cv cause I need a damn job already.

I tend to be serious and have minor depression. I practice mindfulness, take my medicines and practice positive self-talk. Before my last two interviews (this week), I supplemented with GABA (the night before) and with Rhodiola Rosea (half the recommended dose) the day of the interviews. The combination of my regular medicines and the two alternative methods help curb my insecurity, anxiety, and lower self-confidence. The problem is that the Rhodiola Rosea gives me a headache later and I have a "hangover" the day after when I just go back to my regular routine. This time I felt like I was lying to the interviewers because they commented about my positivity, open-mindedness, and confidence. Today my inner critic is going bonkers. Neither of the herbal supplements are illegal or addictive and have been suggested to me by my doctor and the headaches are the only reason I do not supplement daily. Did I do a bad thing?

What if its a bias issue? Im a black woman and was intereviewed today by a blue eyed blonde haired hiring manager. As soon as I came on the zoom call I distinctly saw a flash of disappointment spread across her face followed by a strange sputtering in her speech. I finished up as well as I could but she gave me a pretty clear brush off making sure to inform me that she "had other candidates to interview" for the position. Point is If youre not what they envision (physically) theres no amount of great answers, personality or charisma that can overcome a preference the interviewer has.

Nah, It's not you. A professional interviewer would put you at ease from the start. A bad interview is NOT one sided. Ruminate on the red flags they were throwing out to cause you to stumble. If they are psyching you out (toxic tactic to see how you react to confrontation) Get up and walk out. You deserve better than what they are offering. You can do better than that job and they don't deserve the skill or professional standards you will bring to the position. Remember, you are valuable. They need what you have to make money.

I went for my interview on Tuesday the guy who interviewed me spoke so fast I didn't understand most of the things he said I had such a severe heachache I could not think straight. I knew that interview went really bad I came home thinking about the interview and how I answered those questions I can't stop crying because it's my dream job. I can't sleep in the night I am still waiting for a call but it seems like they not going to call me due to my interview.

Come here just after I mess up my interview. It was an interview for internship placement on comoany that I really aim for. I did great until the interviewer ask me about physics question which I totally didnt expect he would asked that. Yes, I learn that during my studies but I was completely speechless and dont even remember wht I've learnt. It was cringe and I know the interviewer must be annoyed af to the fact that I cant even answer a simple physics question 🙂

So I had a slightly different experience from what the job probably required. And when the interviewer pointer out the difference in what they required. I got confused with the new terms they used and instead of trying to give them the connection with my experience I ended up asking, 'if they think I could learn it'. And I think that is where I messed up. I don't know if I would have gotten the opportunity if I would have said I'll be able to do it, instead. Suckss. Also they said maybe in 3 months I can get back and they might have someone to head the department. Idk, if they were telling the truth or what....

I went to an interview today for an employment liason officer position for VARC. I did absolutely terrible. My kids weren’t able to go to their daycare, I had to take them to my moms house in another town last minute, just barely made it to the interview on time. Overall, felt very unprepared. My worst flaw was not being able to articulate myself, and I bet the woman conducting my interview thought I was a complete air-head. I did give her a call a few hours after our initial interview to tell her I was so embarrassed with the way I conducted myself, and asked if there was any possibility of doing another interview at a different date. I’m not sure if that was the smart thing to do, but the position means a lot to me and I see a lot of growth potential, although it is only an entry level position.
