Great hike choices: I did your first two last week (Oct 17-18) Avalanche Lake and Saint Mary/Virginia Falls. At age 71.6, they were great! I was there with my son/daughter-in-law and their NINE children! They are all home schooled and loved it.

The footage at about 9:36, with the pebbles on the bottom reflected through the clear water to the surface, is amazing. We had Glacier on our agenda last summer, but bailed due toCOVID related stuff. Hoping to make it there, all the way from Florida, late this summer. Great video.

Some fantastic hikes there. I can’t believe how clear Lake McDonald was. I thought of Switzerland as well when you did the Highline Trail - it reminded me of the Eiger trail that skirts the north face of the Eiger. Oh, and parking is a huge issue this year in the U.K. too - that’s the trouble when there’s limited place to go!

The Highline trail is one of my favorite hikes I have ever done. The views are spectacular and non-stop. Glad you got to do this magnificent hike. IMV, The best way to do the Highline Trail hike is use the Going to the Sun Road shuttle. I know it wasn't running during COVID. But it is running in 2022. You can drive to the Logan Pass Parking lot early early early and then hike the Highline to the loop trail which takes you down to the Going to the Sun Road where you can catch the shuttle back to the parking lot. Cuts the hike into a more reasonable 11 mile hike as opposed to the 14.5 on the Highline. Or you can leave your car at the West or East Entrances and take the shuttle from the West or the East Entrances to Logan Pass. 45 years ago my father dropped me and my younger brother off at Logan Pass and the two of us hiked the Highline Trail and then over the Swiftcurrent pass down the eastside to the Swiftcurrent Motor lodge where we met up with our Dad again. The Highline trail gets very busy so it's much better to do it in one direction.
@Roamaroo
@Roamaroo 2 жыл бұрын
That is what we wanted to do!! 😀😀. But as you pointed out the shuttles weren’t running. Sounds like you’ve had some great hiking experiences The other idea is to get a reservation at the “cabin” ( or chalet). My mom did that route. Hike in, spend the night, and hike out. Said it was fabulous! ❤️❤️👍

Parking is awful, but an easy fix is getting there early..sadly, by 8am or earlier. It does take effort, but worth it to not waste time. Hopefully they build those extra parking spots! The trail is absolutely worth it and you can tag on an extra 2 miles if you do the garden wall. It makes the total elevation over 4K feet, but the views are amazing and you get the see one of the only glaciers in the contiguous US.

I heard that you must have a reservation to go on the Going to the Sun road, but if you arrive early enough like 5AM you can drive up without a reservation. Is that true? What's the latest time you can drive up in the mornings without a reservation & still find a parking spot in the visitor center on top of the mountain? Also do you think the shuttles will be running this summer? If I can't drive up or can't find parking I would like to take a shuttle up instead so I can still enjoy the park.

you've got some work to do... your video is devoid of any actual hikes. you took some strolls i lived near and hiked Glacier for 35+ years (1982 - until august 2021) and logged well over 3000 trail miles, 100 mountain summits, and dozens upon dozens of overnight back country camping ventures. and i didn't see everything trail suggestions: dawson pitimakin loop, boulder/brown pass loop, swiftcurrent pass from many glacier, ptarmigan tunnel, two medicine pass, iceberg lake, triple divide pass, grinnell glacier, and the easiest day hike in the park - hidden lake (cross the stream and wander the shores) better get going!!

@@Roamaroo i am a story teller. comes with age and being a former journalist (which is why i left the U.S. - death threats). Glacier Park is where my parents ashes are (far end of Avalanche lake, beneath the 3 -1000' waterfalls, looking out at Heaven's peak). until this year, it is where i spent mother's day since 2012. i miss the park, but not the throngs of people. the last 10 years have seen outrageous numbers of visitors, causing restrictions and conflict. i have a KZfaq video of descending the sun road on bike (before ebikes were allowed). enjoy the somewhat uncluttered FUN (it was crowded. saw 140 people in the 10 miles. in the 90's and 00's, usually saw only 50 -75)...kzfaq.info/get/bejne/p8umiKiSnKuweac.html
