My brother was also stationed at Fort ORD. He loved playing golf on Bayonet and Black horse. It's a University now...CSUMB. My niece and nephew both graduated there. I lived in Pacific Grove for 23 years, so my niece and nephew would come over for visits and dinner...many times with friends in tow. My brother would be transferred to Fort Huachuca, but every year vacation in Monterey. He too is now retired.

Enjoyed the video very much. Probably because my Gma lived in 17mi drive and owned the restaurant right across the road from lovers point called Lovers Point Inn back in 70s. As a kid my favorite playground was Dennis the Menace land in Monterey. My fav beach is Carmel River Beach. Best place to stay is Clint Eastwoods former Mission Ranch right up the road from Carmel River Beach. I also really loved his former restaurant Hogs Breath. Not sure of the quality now but back in the day was top notch for ambienc and delicious food. Thanks for bringing back those wonderful memories of much simpler times.

Oooh. It you travel past the Little Sur River there is a mortuary cave entrance from which I've watched highway traffic pass. That cave is vertical, wide at the top, and pinch-tight at the bottom. With several boulders that slid in to get stuck at different levels. Traffic noise and cave depth will mute all screaming. UC excavated all human bones. Native Americans and one European. Was latter an accident or murder ? On my last visit I used the chimney technique to descend solo and exit. There are other mortuary caves in California.

I did SCUBA diving to underwater wreckage. To assist my Senior Thesis on Shipwrecks Of Central California. Found one in 12 feet of water, carried a cargo of bottled beer and Spanish Mission furniture being returned to Santa Cruz, CA. That was off Carmel's Cannery Row. Swimmers can find a big steel boiler to locate it. A coastal steel tanker broke apart off Monterey in deeper water. In knee deep water beside a famous golf course are scattered pieces of various metals of another vessel. There's more but you have some clues. Mission furniture could hidden donated items of value. Gold nuggets, precious stones, silver ?

Monterey Bay Aquarium is a nonprofit public aquarium that charges 49.95 per adult!!! So much for none profit
@patcolin2
@patcolin2 Жыл бұрын
I lived in Pacific Grove for 23 years.... I can't believe it's $49.95 to visit the aquarium....they've got to be kidding. I had friends who formed the "Pacific Grove Pt. Pinos Tide pools Coalition"...their goal was to protect the Pt. Pinos Tide pools. At one point, the aquarium was caught removing specimens from Pt. Pinos, and selling them to other marine entities. The Monterey Bay Sanctuary receives local, State and Federal environmental protections, so it was definitely illegal for the aquarium to be out collecting specimens (for profit). I'm not sure if the Tide Pool Coalition still exists, as it was a small group, and it's founder passed away.

@rubo1964 that's not what non profit means. the money from tickets and souvenirs and things goes towards upkeep of the aquarium. things like feeding the animals, their healthcare, water filtration systems, as well as paying the many employees. it's not free, because we live in a capitalist system and have to pay for things. but the money doesn't go into pockets of owners or investors or things like that.

@travelingtipps
@travelingtipps Жыл бұрын
We walked from the hotel to the aquarium which was a scenic walk along the water. It takes a little while longer than driving but I think the walk is much nicer if you have the time. The Victorian Inn has a good location near the attractions on Cannery Row, which is great if that is where you plan to spend a lot of your time. We did a few side trips away from the core of Monterey so staying a little farther away helped cut down on traffic for us

You completely left out the entire reason for the founding of Carmel. In fact it is why many cities 8n California are named. You left out the Carmel mission and St. Junipe -Serra. His saintly remains are buried there at the mission. The reason that the area looks the way it does, is because it had been blessed by Holy God.

The Carmel Mission is now a Basilica. Father Junipero Serra has been made a Saint by his Holiness Pope Francis, and is laid to rest within the small church. There is an indigenous cemetery. Also, original gardens and trees remain around the grounds and are preserved. Interesting/sad place.
