@wardysfishing9403 G,day Mate. We plan on being in Cooktown for 3 days late August, then Weipa and Mapoon around 1st September for around 6 days, which we will have the boat. Then, to the tip if all goes to plan. Would love to get the boat to the tip, but looks to be a significant challenge from what I can tell so far.

Youve done your homework @@80ZX . Absolutely right. No issues getting the boat to Weipa and Mapoon. But the Bamaga road is a shocker. You can get there if you're prepared to crawl alone with it gets too rough but you'd have to allow yourself all day and then you will miss the Jardine River Ferry. They would probably be closed by the time you got there. But Weipa and Mapoon in Sept is amazing. So many options and good tides as well. Fishing the drains at the bottom of the tides and start of the run in as well as the snags and rock bars when the tide is higher will see you doing very well. Enjoy your trip mate and if you're in Weipa for a few days we might have to have a refreshment.

@wardysfishing9403 Thanks again for the response, Mate. Yes, the boat further north than Mapoon and Weipa seems a big stretch, particularly for our first trip. If you are in Weipa at the same time, it would be great to catch up for a refreshment and chat.

Sort of keen but I always find the fishing tough until the rain stops. What's your thoughts? I find them up in the swamps or the big tides have them hiding in too deep. I might get one or two but it's tough.

@wardysfishing9403 yeah I know what you mean and I do agree. We've still got a bit of runoff here and there's a lot of new snags around since the floods. I'm planning on sticking close to the river and creek mouths this weekend as there's not much in the tides. There's definitely some big girls around at the moment, just need to time it right and find what works I reckon. I got a 108cm by catch last Sunday morning on 95mm jerkbait

@@Jake_UpNorthFishingAdventures Wow . Cracking fish mate. I haven't caught a metre barra for two years now. Dropped one at the boat in the Wenlock year before last but didnt even see one last year. They are around the bridge at night during closed season but I dont target them. This year I;ll get one. Overdue.

@wardysfishing9403 yeah I don't find them very often up at Lakefield or marina Plains, but they turn up a bit in cairns at the right time. I just got home from my first fish of the season and landed 4 of 5 in the runoff. All between 68 and 75. Nice fat healthy fish since the floods.
