Damn! Imagine the low income class trying to overcome this! Some unemployed still due to the pandemic and barely surviving paycheck to paycheck.

Insurance company will find any way to deny the claim - like Nancy said flood damage is only covered by flood insurance. I have family who survived Katrina - what she said is true.

The sucky part about Ida hitting NY and NJ is that they weren’t prepared. The gulf coast knew she was headed towards them, but the NE had very little warning. Prayers for all.

The video list masks, goggles, gloves, fans, dehumidifiers, shop vac. No mention of the need for strong humans who have water to drink, a place to sleep with air conditioning, food to eat, electricity from the grid, etc.. This thing is a little ahead of where many people are.

People should sue the city SINCE the city should have drainage systems that actually work. Your FIRST STEP is to make SURE there's proper drainage around your home and BLOCK every year. I make sure my block is clear I make sure my property has proper drainage. I own a acre and it's my responsibly to watch out for it.

In Lithuania where I live, and basically in any of the Europe countries, Russia included too, there is a standard practice, or at least it was in older times, now its probably just to expensive to do it, when a residential house was build, with a basement that is getting wet even slightly, or if there are any to at least one active water spring present during the digging of the basement, it usually because of the abnormally high surface water table in basically all of EU countries, and if there is no drain available, your basement will always be just a giant swimming pool 27/7/365, so the floor of the basement always is slightly slanted to one corner where a pit is installed and in that pit is a 4 inch pipe that goes directly from your house and connects to the nearby pipe going under the street that is the separate pipe from sewer and rain water collection systems, and its job is basically to collect all the spring and rain water from the basements and carry it out to the lakes or pumping stations nearby so basements wont get flooded. In my 1959 year of construction house that I live in, the basements constructed in the exact same manner, in the corner of my basement is a pit and in the bottom of it as an elbow of cast iron 4 inch pipe that goes under the pit to the rain water collection well in the street and it goes down to the nearby lake witch is downhill about half a kilometer away from my house. And since my and all of my neighbors houses are near a lake our basements are full of active springs that during even the biggest droughts of the hottest summers, the water still bubbles up trough the floor and runs down to the pit and out of the house. It should be a standard practice in US too I think. A basement is a just a giant pool and what do pools need? a drain hole to drain it. Usually it is connected to a pump nearby so it is plumped out to the drain but sometimes if a main sewer line of the house is low enough the pool drain can be directly connected to a sewer line and you just pull a plug of a 4 inch drain in the bottom of a pool and it drains away, though not many people do that plainly because it can sometimes overwhelm the sewer line and back up into other people houses, so you should install a 2 inch pipe so it won't happen. I actually installed a valve on my basement drain, so I an plug it shut during droughty summers and I have a backup pump in the pit and I pump the spring water out into a holding tank and I use it to water my garden. I once remember, I left the valve shut and unplugged the pump to do some work on the tank outside and I forgot about it for three days and I went into the basement and it was full of water all the way trough the whole basement as high as 3 feet deep!!! so I opened the valve and a huge whirlpool appeared and water rushed down the drain until a whole basement was empty. It was so satisfying and the floor of the basement was never so clean before lol. I could hear the water fall in the rain well in the street as my basement was draining out

My brand new house in the USA has a sump pump pit in the basement. I then trenched about 60ft so the water drains into a large retention pond. It was annoying that the construction company refused to dig the trench. Instead they just had a 2" pipe sticking out the side of the house which essentially created a feedback loop for water to renter the pump pit.

Flood insurance is what you need for flooding. Homeowner's insurance will not cover flood damage. You also want to make sure you are covering your place of residence, do not forget to also cover your own investment properties and real estate. - - Just so you know, if you only got homeowner's insurance there would be no "win".

ummm yeah you try to survive a stage 4 hurricane, unemployed in middle of no where. Show sympathy for those who have fallen for no fault of their own. BTW japan houses are made of even more gentle material I think in some area they sort of plan for breakdown so that they can rebuild quickly.

Houses are made with materials depending where in your state you live. For instance I live Michigan so my house isn’t build with materials that you need for hurricane. We hit with tornadoes but not like how the south gets hit. You going to have realize that not everyone can afford certain materials to build your house with.

avoid living in flooding area is the best solution. even if it happens in every 10 years, losing everything is not worth it over saving few hundreds a month. even insurance company covers all the damage 100%, you would still lose irreplaceable items and it will take months of hard work to restore it back to normal. i would avoid flooding zone at any cost.

Where we live, basements aren’t a thing because it’s too expensive to dig through feet of caliche and flash floods tend to happen every summer. Sad for anyone in a basement apartment.

The climate is changing. Cataclysms are happening all over the planet. This is due to the cyclical nature. For more details, see the Global Crisis Online World Conference. This already concerns everyone. Only together can we cope with the disasters ahead. Let's unite and build a Creative Society. A society of kindness and justice.

You show me a basement that's never ever flooded and I'll show you a second floor bedroom. There ain't no such thing as a basement that never floods! I didn't grew up in a state that had basements. Seems pointless since they always flood. - - How about showing folks what kind of insurance they should buy BEFOREHAND so they can get relief in a disaster?
