What do we do with our sexual needs? As John Paul II says, “The very manner in which we conceive of our sexual desires must be, from the start, to the greatest extent possible, freed from purely impulse-oriented, naturalistic presuppositions and shaped personalistically. To put that in layman’s terms: “You’re not an animal.”
In order to answer the question, “What are we to do with our sexual needs,” we must first look at our understanding of sexual needs.
Do we truly have sexual needs? Or are our sexual longings an expression of a deeper human need: the need for love.

Sounds great, is complete nonsense. In a maritial relationship the wife MUST comply to the need of the husband: 1 Corinthians 7:5 Paul wrote: "Do not deny yourselves to each other, unless you first agree to do so for a while in order to spend your time in prayer; but then resume normal marital relations. In this way you will be kept from giving in to Satan's temptation because of your lack of self-control." Here Paul does not referr to the "lack of control" as something unnatural, but as a natural consequence of being human and being denied: Sexually.

Porn free for almost 6 months now and I struggled since I was 8. Sad stuff. Im almost 21 and been fighting it since I was 14. Keep praying to God constantly 10-15 times no matter how “unworthy” you feel. He sees you and hears you and he can change you. Fight it off, go to the gym, work, kick it with your homies, put yourself away from a space of temptation. Next girl/guy you talk to, live in the present with them and love the non sexual aspect and activities with them! Use this with any addiction. I used it for my weed addiction too and Im now 30 days weedless! God can do anything!

Amen, hallelujah! Not sure if you ever read the Bible. But you might try reading, rereading, and studying it. It has lots of answers for us. For example, fear of God can be quite helpful. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom. Proverbs 9:10. Bible says that if we have lustful thoughts, it is akin to "adultery". Matt. 5:28. Christ said it. He also said that adulterers/promiscuous folks will be in the lake of fire. Rev. 21:8. Apostle Paul says that folks involved in fornication and adultery will not inherit the Kingdom. Galatians 5:19-21; 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. And yes, this includes church folks. See Matthew 7:13-27. "Many are called, few are chosen". Matthew 20:16. BUT... the GREAT NEWS is that IF we know the Word of God, and continue in it, and believe it, we will realize that Jesus SAID HE came to save us OUT of slavery to sin. Read John 8:31-36 and Romans chapter 6 sometime. It's all in there. So, we are NOT slaves to sin anymore. So we CAN conquer lusts etc... And if we don't, we simply don't care enough to overcome all this, and probably don't really know or care about God all that much. Thus, we will not be in the Kingdom of God. Jesus said several times to the 7 churches of Revelation chapters 2 and 3, that they all need to overcome sin. Jesus' prescription for overcoming sin is in Matthew 16:24-27: He said we have to DENY SELF, pick up our cross (i.e., die to self, die to sin, die to satan), and follow Him. He said we have to "lose OUR lives" for Him, and also to "forsake all that we have" for Him to be His. See Luke 14:26-33 and Mark 10>28-30. So this walk is not a cakewalk. Jesus describes it as a "cross", and Paul said it will involve "tribulation" and trials. See Acts 14:22, 2 Tim. 1:8. Jesus said that those who love Him keep His commandments. The New Testament is reportedly loaded with about 1050 "commandments", so we had better get busy and find out what they are. And always remember, we have the power to overcome sin/lust/whatever within us, if we are His. Christ sends His Holy Spirit to us to help us and empower us. Hence, sin does NOT have any power over us anymore. See John 14:14-21, 17:17, and Romans 6:14. See also John 6:63. Please at least consider getting into your Bible.

When one of the Pharisees invited Jesus to have dinner with him, he went to the Pharisee’s house and reclined at the table. A woman in that town who lived a sinful life learned that Jesus was eating at the Pharisee’s house, so she came there with an alabaster jar of perfume. As she stood behind him at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears. Then she wiped them with her hair, kissed them and poured perfume on them. When the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, “If this man were a prophet, he would know who is touching him and what kind of woman she is-that she is a sinner.” Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” “Tell me, teacher,” he said. “Two people owed money to a certain moneylender. One owed him five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. Neither of them had the money to pay him back, so he forgave the debts of both. Now which of them will love him more?” Simon replied, “I suppose the one who had the bigger debt forgiven.” “You have judged correctly,” Jesus said. Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet. You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet. Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” Then Jesus said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.” The other guests began to say among themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?” Jesus said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you; go in peace.” Luke 7:36‭-‬50 ❤✝️

The Lord will punish all those who commit such sins, as we told you and warned you before. For God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. @DIBBY40 You have a fundamental misunderstanding of anorexia. Anorexics don't have a compulsion to not eat. They want to eat. In fact, many will confess that they love food but choose to ignore those desires for fear of gaining weight. What they're seeking, like the video alludes to, is control. The food and starving of their body is merely a mechanism of obtaining that control.

The freedom comes when you are satisfied by righteousness, and no longer even feel the need to indulge sexually. Imagine an obese person who loses 50 lbs and feels healthy and strong. They can now find satisfaction in eating food how it’s supposed to be enjoyed, by giving life. Just like sex, which is meant to give life and unity to a God fearing marriage. The once-obese person wouldn’t find the same satisfaction from over indulging in junk food once they’ve tasted the freedom

Something that has helped me is thinking of 1 Corinthians 6. There is a verse that says something along the lines of “flee from sexual immorality.” When you begin to experience temptation… FLEE! Move your physical body and try not to fight it. Go for a walk or run, go and talk to a family member, or call a friend. We are more apt to lose against temptation when we fight it in seclusion rather than flee and seek help or leave the physical setting. I hope this is helpful to someone. God bless everyone ❤

Romans 12 starts with renewing our minds The heart and mind are tied together The Bible also talks about the eyes and ears What we see and hear For men we have 4 basic needs Food, Water, Sex, Sleep I encourage you to start each day praying and committing all of your life and day to Him Then if you so choose or wish too, the issues or struggles you face daily Detail in prayer a recognition and commitment to God for help over that struggle Some people work thru it on their own Other's do counseling Whatever works for you I have my own personal detailed prayer I use when overwhelmed at times If you are a Christian, the daily walk is a life of progress towards God We are encouraged to a life of perfection and holiness However, we are human and make mistakes When we fall down, get back up Don't stay down You know your making progress in your life when you get back up or come back to God sooner than you used too And I know this thread is about sexual struggles However we can apply this to all areas of life "I struggle with __________ ......." Allowing you to fill in the blank of your personal problem With all this said and shared, I would be wrong to not include this information as well If you are not a born again Christian, then you need to start there Pray to God and ask Him to forgive you of all your sins To wash and cleanse you and make you right with Him If you ask "what is sin" ??? Sin is anything that you have done wrong according to the Bible and God standard Once you have prayed to God and asked forgiveness of your sins That starts a whole new life for you If you read this far and want to know more, please feel free to contact me Steve

My spirit wants it to end and the Holy Spirit that lives within me and around me convicts me, but THIS is what I needed to hear. Instead of giving into my flesh and sinful nature, the sexual urges and sexual needs NEED to be reoriented and redirected to inviting God {through prayer} to bring HIS love into this and allow Him to take control and CONTINUE to renew my mind. knowledge If you are gay or transgender and know someone who is, this is important information! Sexual orientation is determined in the womb during fetus development. Various hormones are introduced at specific times to accomplish this. The fetus plays no part in this process. A person is born with predetermined physical, biological & psychologic features. It is, therefore, not a choice & consequently not a sin & not immoral. It is a natural path of our evolution & found commonplace in nature. Medical research in this area clearly explains this process. Those who believe it is an abomination do so based not on facts but on religious authority. It is their right to believe this and I understand them. It must be made clear however, it is based on religion not science. If you are truly interested in the truth based on knowledge, the book Gay, Straight & the Reason Why by Dr. Simon Levay explains this with numerous research articles. If you want to understand the truth & have respect for others & yourself, this book will help. It also has, unlike the bible written over 2000 years ago by men that had no understanding of science, an extensive bibliography. I strongly recommend the book. If you chose to respond to me, please read this book &/or the numerous articles referred to in the reference section before hand. The public must be exposed to facts & knowledge. It is an obligation for those who know the truth & must defend it. Don’t let the religious pull you down to their level of ignorance. Peace

If you change your thoughts about anything you will change the outcome!

Be aware, brother in Chist : I've been in such a situation too, yet the devil know how to tempt even the most solid in the Spirit, and eventually make them fall. If you have sexual urges, MARRY. Do not stay alone for too long, it's a trap to take you down under and eventually you will relapse again.

I have recently finished a 60 hour fast, broken by communion, which has shed much light on my lusts. I had found, then, that fasting all but eliminated the power of sexual temptation. I was tempted many times in the same ways I was before, but each time, the temptations had no weight, no draw on my attention. But of course, fasting cannot be done at all times, and once I had a hearty meal, the temptations descended once more with renewed fury. I soon gave in, then. However, in my disappointment, and in my struggle against these temptations, I came across this video. I have listened to many instructions on how to deal with sexual temptation, and pornography especially. But this one struck a cord. For the past several hours, I have been left alone, no responsibilities or company, and so have been assailed by temptation constantly. And so I struggled. I would constantly consider the temptations, toy with them, admonish myself, pray for a moment, all while I was trying my best to distract myself with a personal project of mine. When I came across this video, I was just about on the verge of giving in. The excuses whispered to me were nearly deafening, for why tonight would not be a failure if I succumbed. But something you said clicked. What are my sexual desires for? I have seen one purpose tonight, as I was battling temptations. I was, in my struggle, working. Creating. Channeling my energy. The desire was put towards something, diverted, if only a little, from the dam of sin and damnation that was about to burst. And at the same time, I was strengthening my will, painfully aware of every crack The Enemy was grasping and prying at. And when I inevitably am tempted again, I will remember what I have learned, and put it to use once again. And when I inevitably fail, in big ways and small, I will learn yet more. The road to salvation is a hard one, fraught with miseries and distractions, the road agents of the Devil, ready to take advantage of the suffering traveler. But if I don't give them my soul, no matter how they may beat me down, and weary me to collapse, the Lord will pick me up once again, to press forward, and continue the pilgrimage. I will be doubtless tempted again, very soon. Pray for me, please. I will certainly need it. A revelation does not save a man, no matter how profound, not alone, and not immediately. But I am better equipped, now. The gate is stronger, the tower taller. The armor of God is reforged, and replaced upon me. I have been granted a hopeful repast. But now, I must go to face my enemy, once again.

I had almost the exact same experience. Sex became my master and I was its slave. Only by coming to know God was I able to see the truth about sexuality. The world says we're free to do whatever we want and it's all good, but that's a lie, its not all good. The consequences of sexual sin are devastating. When I saw the truth or to be more accurate, when the holy spirit showed me the truth, I could see that so long as I was in bondage to my sexual "needs" I could never love a woman properly. Because I'd always have a secret agenda, to use her for my own gratification. And I think this is why so many marriages fail, because each one is trying to get something from the other. Women use men aswell, not for sex though, but for attention and resources. Both men and women have been equally corrupted by sin. Women have to be careful that a man isnt just using her for his own gratification and men have to be careful that a woman isn't using him for attention and resources, she should love you the same if you're broke as if you were doing well.

Exactly. Sadly today this message is not preached in pull pits. Most preaching is only for marriages and families already established but little to no knowledge for singles. And the sad part is that churches are encouraging singleness too much 😢 somewhere along the line people need to connect to the holy spirit instead of purging their own flesh through rituals like Paul warned some of the churches in the new testament

In my own experience, sexual activity outside and inside of marriage never has delivered on the promise of love. At times a deeper bonding, but never the fullness of love that I am now beginning to experience in relationship with my Lord and Beloved Jesus. At the same time sexual desire is waning, and has mostly disappeared, while there is no lack of attractive women around me. True love I find in giving of myself in acts of kindness, in loving service to my Lord. I think that our "needs" grow in proportion to the attention that we are giving to them and to ourselves. The cure may be to put our attention on Jesus and on our neighbor, as the Lord is teaching us.

One thing that helped me a lot is to just distract myself. If you feel the urge to look at pornography, do something else. Video games, photography, gardening, exercising, etc. Whatever it is just needs to be engrossing enough to pull your focus away from your sexual urges. Of course, that method probably works better if you're single. It's probably harder if you're dating someone, but I don't really have any advice for that sorta thing. It's been like a decade since I've been with anyone.

I have been struggling with my sexual indulgences for most of my life, which has been made so easily accessible with the internet. I met a woman that reminded me of how far I've run from my faith and encouraged to me to come back. She bought a copy of your book for me and I'm working my way through it. Some days are easier than others, but I struggle often with differentiating between what you describe as "suppression" in your book and how I can "embrace my sexual desires" as God intended them to be without straying towards lust. I pray on it quite a bit, but I find myself sliding back down every couple of days. I'm going to take away "If you cannot control your own sexual desires, you will inevitably seek to control others, to gratify them," because I know she deserves better as someone I would like to call my wife some day.

Great message! So powerful - if you cannot control your sexual desires, and you will control others around you to fulfill them. This is part of the reason why I don’t want to be in a relationship with a man. I’m so exhausted around being hounded for sex! Honestly, I believe that demonic influence and something close to possession can often be the problem even for “Christians”. I recently came back to Christ and went through several deliverances. I recently had a sexual awakening of my own I also felt the compulsion to please myself. But every time I did, the desire to just went away. I only kept releasing my urges just to relieve built up stress and my climaxes felt less impactful It wasn't until I realized that I wasn't in tune with the emotional aspect and was only relying on primal urges. When you have sex with someone, they aren't just an object to release your desires upon. I realized that they feel just as you do, so if you ignore their wellbeing and feelings it numbs the connection you normally would feel together. Like a vampire draining energy from another person instead of creating energy and sharing it together After realizing that, I felt the desire to honor my partner and their body just as I would expect them to do the same for me Changed my whole outlook on intimacy and sex overall

Do u think it's sin to masturbate, say once or twice a month? I find praying about this, the strong urge doesn't always leave. Any thoughts?

Well explained. Now I do wonder... I am 37 yrs od and have not have a partner or sex since 2019 and one 5 min slip up in 2020 where I stoppen mid act. However, I do have a need for physical intimacy and it does not feel aligned to condem myself for the need to help myself every now and then. Would it mean that it is sinful to love and pleasure my own body? Why would that be wrong? (Unless it becomes an obsession ofcourse)

I am sure I will feel better and keep going without falling into sin. May God bless you. You reminded me that I am not an an animal, that I can control my feelings by redirecting them elsewhere.

It is so good!! I love it! I thought about same-sex relations too, cause it's for them like for us, but they have these feelings towards a person of the same sex. And they cannot change it towards a person from the other sex. I think for them it's the same, coming into a loving relationship and being a image, that we all need contact to the same sex too, we're not a lone as a men or a woman and only need deep contact to the other sex.

When I was called to celibacy I prayed for deliverance from sexual desire so I would not be tempted. The Holy Spirit instructed me on what I had to do to be freed from that nature. It was a six month process of rebuking every thought or impulse and immediately turning to God. The final phase was the hardest, there was something very primal that rose up in me, enraged and this awareness that if I just yielded the rage would go away. I resisted it for weeks and then one morning I woke and it was gone and I was free from such desires. God is so faithful!

My goodness, you hit the nail on the head. I was having flashbacks to my previous relationship as I watched this. I couldn’t help but smile oddly enough as I said “yep, I was the same way!” Not that me being that way was good, but what’s good is that God showed me who I was and freed me from it. That’s the good part. For anyone watching, listening, etc., my hope is that you grow more to realize that the freedom Christ brings us is exactly as outlined in the video: “freedom FROM”, not “freedom TO”. And if you feel like you don’t have that freedom, then pray and don’t stop. If you desire it, God CAN and WILL bring it.

When you were explaining your life andwhat you were going through at the age of 23 to 24, it was like i was being shown my own life right now. Im currently 23 and im struggling so much with constant gratification of my sexual compulsions. It was like you were describing exactly what im going through right now, as if a warning for my path ahead, especially with my relationship, which we are celebrating our third anniversary in two days. I cant explain how remarkable this was to hear you explain what to do about my sexual desires, opening that area of my life to God. And that is exactly what Im struggling to do aswell, it feels emberassing and wrong to open that part of myself, but after hearing you explain that its good to do so, I realized that this fear i have is actually an attack by the enemy. Thank you so much for this video, you just opened a pathway to freedom for me!

I am atheist and my friend always calls me a “wannabe slut” because I would probably be quite promiscuous if it wasn’t for me having severe social and emotional issues from a shitty childhood. I only had real sex for the first time recently with said friend. And it’s nice and fun and pretty intimate, too. If it’s really good it can definitely make me a little bit happier for a few days. If it’s bad it can also make me unhappier for a few days. But I also become happier for a few days if I masturbate and it’s really good. If I don’t have sex or masturbate I don’t become depressed either, I just get more horny. Sometimes you can redirect the energy of horniness into work. And sometimes the idea of having sex can be very motivating and help you work or take care of yourself and try harder. It can also bond two ppl together because it’s quite intimate and vulnerable and you share good feelings. And it can also make your mind slightly obsessed with a person in a sexual way if you had rlly hot sex. So sex is very useful and powerful and has many different powerful effects on you which can be very positive but can also be negative under the wrong circumstances. But for me it’s really not a “need”. I don’t become sad if I don’t have sex at all. I crave sex. But in the same way I crave a bag of chips. This bag of chips isn’t inherently meaningful to me. It’s not going to bring me fulfillment. But I just really *crave* it right now. But that doesn’t mean it’s a biological *need* to eat the bag of chips. In the same way sex isn’t really a need for me. However what are real needs are intimacy, affection, companionship the care of another human and so on. Without those things our spirit withers away and we become depressed. Those things are meaningful. At least to me. The bag of chips isn’t meaningful by itself but if you share it with a friend and afterwards you cuddle it might be. But maybe I his also differs from person to person or between genders. I’m a man and I crave sex but I don’t need it. It’s not *important* to me or my life. But I’ve heard from several women that they do think it’s important and meaningful in their lives. I also think many people in the modern world are starved for intimacy and affection and the only way they can get it is by entering into a sexual relationship with someone. Maybe that’s why people value it so much. But for me it’s really not easy hat important. But my body is programmed to be horny and so I’m trying to make the best of it and use it to further my happiness.

This is so rich and profoundly beautiful, thank you for sharing on this very important topic. Eros, in God is Holy and beautiful, as we can gather from the Song of songs also. But fallen, exiled into the sexual alone, the animalistic urge that we've been brainwashed into believing that we are, is consumptive and ultimately empty. God has been healing and harmonizing my sexuality, raising Eros back into Love and im so grateful!

You said it right, If we cannot control our own "needs" and desires, we will seek to control others to gratify them. This is true in all areas of life . Now the world pushes aetheism and will to power more and more, the opposite of love. So often especially in regards to advice in romantic relationships , it is popular now to focus on what you are getting from the other person. It is often recommended that of someone doesn't "SERVE" you, walk away from them, married or not.

@@steven3837I don't worship the Eucharist, nor I pray to dead people. The only object I deem holy is the Bible, but not the book itself, but what's written in it. I bow to no man or woman (except that one time I went to Korea, but that wasn't a religious thing). Nor I worship anyone or anything that isn't the Father, the Son or the Holy Spirit. I only get to God through Jesus, and Jesus alone. I don't think we believe the same stuff.

@@Zuzezno Cathlolics also believe that Jesus is the only way to salvation “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). But since you're a christian, you probably pray for other people and sometimes ask someone to pray for you. Or at least you do not see a problem with that. Well, this is exactly what catholics do when they "pray" to saints or Mary. We don't ask them for strength, blessings etc. we ask them to pray to God for us, that's it.

@@filippiat9151Jesus said that he is the only way, but not just for salvation. For everything. Furthermore, we are prohibited to talk to dead people, as seen in Saul's story. Samuel was a great man of God, but it was nonetheless forbidden to try to contact him after death.
