Find out exactly what to eat before and after your workout. Whether you train at the gym or at home your muscles need the right fuel. In this video, you'll learn how to create the best pre-workout meal for more energy and strength. I also go over the best post-workout meal for muscle growth and fat loss.

The old saying that you are what you eat is especially true when it comes to your pre and post workout meals. What you eat before and after your workout will have a big impact on how well you perform at the gym, how quickly you recover, and the results that you'll see in the mirror. Regardless of whether you're trying to build muscle or burn fat you'll be at a disadvantage if you completely ignore your pre and post workout nutrition. While many nutrient timing principles have been debunked, what you eat around your workouts continues to remain important because nailing down your pre and post workout meals can help speed up your progress more than any other meal you eat throughout the rest of the day. So let's start first with pre-workout. When we workout muscle protein breakdown rates will shoot up. Whether your goal is to bulk up and build muscle or burn fat while preserving muscle you're going to want to do your best to keep protein breakdown rates lower and protein synthesis rates higher. Since amino acids are the building blocks to your muscles they are absolutely essential for increasing muscle protein synthesis. Without those amino acids circulating through your bloodstream not only are you missing the fuel necessary for the synthesis process, but your protein breakdown rates will stay elevated, putting you into more of a catabolic mode where your body is breaking down muscle...which we obviously don't want. Now some studies show that having protein before your workout won't enhance muscle growth (1) Meanwhile, other studies show the exact opposite that having pre workout amino acids and carbs can even provide....
Studies:
1. Study Shows that protein timing does not provide any added benefit to strength, power, or body-composition changes
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
2. Amino Acid consumption may be even more beneficial before exercise than after exercise:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
3. Eating Carbs pre-workout Can help Postpone fatigue:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/3...
4. 77% carbs vs 2% carbs effects on performance:
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
5. Having Carbs Pre workout Will provide energy
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
5.5. Carbs will stimulate protein synthesis better than the same amount of fat post workout
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
6. Fasted training will burn more fat during the workout, but the body will compensate by burning more carbs for the rest of the day
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
7. Exercising while fasted increase post workout anabolic response to food
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
7.5. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2...
ingestion of a caffeine-containing energy drink can enhance resistance exercise performance to failure
8. The branched-chain amino acid leucine occupies a position of prominence in that it alone can act as a stimulatory signal for muscle protein synthesis
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
9. protein intake immediately after exercise may be more anabolic than when ingested at some later time.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9...
10. pre- and post-exercise meals should not be separated by more than approximately 3-4 hours
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/arti...
11. "Insulin responses are positively correlated with plasma leucine, phenylalanine, and tyrosine concentrations." "..carbohydrate can be applied as a nutritional supplement to strongly elevate insulin concentrations."
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
12. a carbohydrate supplement in excess of 1.0 g x kg(-1) body wt should be consumed immediately after competition or a training bout.
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9...
13. the addition of approximately 1500 kcal from fat to these meals did not alter muscle glycogen resynthesis or glucose tolerance the next day
www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
14. A 2003 meta-analysis showed individuals ingesting creatine, combined with resistance training, obtain on average +8% and +14% more performance on maximum (1RM) or endurance strength (maximal repetitions at a given percent of 1RM) respectively than the placebo groups.

As always I hope all of you enjoy the video. I see a lot of questions about not eating anything before a workout and training in a fasted state. While yes this is fine, you will want to eat some kind of fast digesting source of protein soon after your workout to drive up protein synthesis and to see the best results for your muscles. I go over the topic of fasted training in depth throughout the video. Just watch the video and pay attention. Also, the 15 science-backed sources used for this video are all listed in the description if you'd like to read the studies for yourself. Thanks for tuning in.

@@eddieelie4978 Have you tried taking probiotics instead of antibiotics? I've heard or read lots of doctors say that taking too many antibiotics will usually wipe out your healthy gut microbes (microbiome). That's where taking probiotics will help restore those healthy gut bacteria, which are essential for fighting off any kind of bad bacteria. It goes without saying that you can't regain muscle without a healthy microbiome to support the process. And on top of probiotics, cutting down on simple carbs, increasing healthy fats, and doing intermittent fasting (for example eating all of your meals within 6 to 8 hours as I do) for at least a few days a week should also help your body fight that bacterial infection. Best of luck.

@@ArunKumar-in8vq He said in this video it's best to eat no later than 1 to 2 hours before your workout, but he was talking about slow-digesting carbs like pasta, potatoes, oats, etc. If you're having fruit or liquid carbs like a banana protein shake or smoothie before your workout, those digest faster. Before I started working out while fasting, I would have a small coffee-chocolate-banana shake about 20-30 min before working out. That worked well for me. Now before working out I just have a no-calorie caffeine drink with electrolytes, and save my carb loading for right after the workout. That also works well for me because I'm now adjusted to burning ketones during workouts instead of glycogens.

@@DashingPartyCrasher i always took & take probiotics now. Matter fact i take this probiotic promoted by Dr Eric berg, this particular probiotic is awesome, it can survive stomach acid & acts like a detergent. When i do # 2 there's no smell. But it's not sttong enough to kill H pylori. No probiotic can. But I'm not going out with out a fight. I ordered something called colloidal silver, it kills all bad bugs.

Pre and post workout meals:- Pre workout * Proteins 20-40g 1-3 hours before * Carbs: depends on workout duration. Less than 1 hour workout, then high glycemic index carbs like white rice/potatoes/bananas. If workout is up to 1 hour or more, then low glycemic index carbs like brown rice/sweet potato/oats. Post workout * Proteins: matters if you haven’t taken proteins pre-workout (20-40g of fast absorbing ie, whey protein) * Carbs: 30-50g of fast digesting carbs like white rice/potatoes/bananas. Recommended post workout supplements: Proteins and creatine

@cadeng2084

The explaining is necessary. He’s trying to tell you how to eat it rather than telling you what to eat. Just eating the food he tells you to doesn’t help the way he tells you how to eat the food.

Replies like these really showcase how degenerated humanity has already become. No staying power. No understanding. No will to even entertain the notion of thinking. No attention span. You guys are a disgrace to the brain you have in your head. Use it. He gave you a very detailled breakdown of what to do. In fact, he explained the many possible options.

Mayhzon bro u seem like some autistic fuck with ur profile pic. I know plenty about working out and many times shit just gets us confused and we don’t NEED TO KNOW THAT. We clicked on the vid for the foods not the explanation. The explanation is fine if they don’t over complicate shit retard so if anything ur a disgrace to the human population lil fuck of a retard

Stickmunx No. Mix the oats with water and microwave until cooked. Then add the rest of the ingredients. My shake recipe is: 1/4 cup oats, 1 banana (frozen), 1/4 cup blueberries (wild, frozen), scoop vanilla protein, add to blender and fill with skim milk until solids are covered. Drink. This is my breakfast.

Awesome , this is exactly what I needed. Subbed , 99% on point , It's hard to remember everything especially after a long break . Anyone getting back into training should watch this as a refresher . It's too easy to be counterproductive by making mistakes. BTW I really like steak eggs and quinoa for post and my own custom special recipe smoothie pre for energy .thanks , i'm off to check for the best muscle grouping exercises. I need to get my days figured out next. Can't remember much lol, can I deadlift and bench press same day , I dunno . I'm starting out slow , I had an anterior deltoid tear that healed finally , taking no chances I want mm without the injuries this time . .
