What to expect from Reate T1000 and T6000. No reason to believe -V2 is any better.

July 2024 update: the hype-up is on again! T1000-V2 has arrived and all the infomercial-style reviewers are jumping in on the affiliate linking frenzy! You are the target. Know this: the original T1000 sold out. The T6000 sat on the shelves for months and only a 30% discount would sell the knife. Imagine how dumb they felt - people who jumped on T6000 at full retail! Don’t be a sucker!
I honestly expected more bang for my buck from this Chinese “premium” maker. Reate is hyped up by everyone who is anyone in the knife reviews space on social media. But, as it is often the case, this knife is all about
“Looking Tough” instead of actually being tough. And now they released the same gimmick in the form of T6000. Well, it’s your money and your choice.

As someone who bought this knife this is definitely surprising. That said, I think most people who buy this are buying it because it looks and feels absolutely ridiculous. Hardly any of us are going to use it this hard; we just want to open packages and play with it. We understand that these knives are not made to be functional; if someone brings this into the woods as a serious survival tool then that person is an idiot. They don't cut for shit because the blades are so thick. Personally having watched this I would still have bought the knife because it is worth it to me. Just like any expensive enthusiast item this is more a toy then a tool. No knife of any kind at any price is going to function significantly better than the budget option. Its all just overkill build for the sake of fun.

Thanks for commenting. Congrats on purchasing this knife. The biggest problem I have with this knife is that it locks itself shut in my pocket. As clearly stated in the video. So whoever carries it with any inclination for self defense is an idiot. As a survival knife it actually works quite well. The blade is thick enough to put a scandi grind on it and it will be a great cutter.

@@CuttingBoardRx Yeah the locking in your pocket thing is kind of inconvenient. I just view it as an excuse to use the slider. That said, I don't really edc the thing because it's just too big. Oh and yeah for self defense, knives are kind of iffy. Knife fights are REALLY ugly and you will be in big legal trouble even if it was self defense. If you stab the attacker then they are more likely to die but will still be able to hurt you. If you use slicing motions then you can cut their muscles and disable them without being as likely to puncture vital organs. That said, I am not a ninja who wants legal trouble so I just use pepper spray and if God forbid that's not enough then I also have the favorite American self defense tool.

@@CombatBanana I have been in situations where having an impressive implement in hand stops a fight before it begins. But fumbling for a button is not the way to make a right impression!

@@CuttingBoardRx I agree the t1000 would be my last choice for a self-defense tool. If I had to carry a knife for self-defense it would certainly be a fixed blade for the draw speed. Basically the same speed as a gun. Once it's in your hands it's ready to go no need to open.

Thank you sir! You just saved me some money! I love tough folders, but too many "hard use" brands and models are all show and no go, such as this Reate and other expensive frame locks like the ZT, CRK, Medford, Strider, etc. Andrew Demko's Tri-ad lock is time tested and well proven. Nothing else comes close.

I feel that the pretense of paying more to get more is an invalid equation, as you've demonstrated here. In my collection, there are art knives and users in the folding configuration. Then there are fixed blades. Most buyers won't "torture" test expensive blades any more than testing crumple zones and airbags on Mercedes. 😅 There are many reasonably priced knives out there that will hold up to most reasonable tasks. My folders are for cutting, but won't pretend that by paying more I'm getting more durability necessarily. This case is unique because of pricey knife was sold as being also tough and dependable and that's not always or even frequently the way things play out! 👍🗡️👊 Thanks for your honest reviews and sacrificial blades!!! 😅

I own one. If anything I watched to see just how much abuse it can take. I actually appreciate it very much because at the 500 dollar plus price mark no one else will test it that rough. I've done the light spine whack test with it and it stays locked just fine. Anything past that and it's time to get a hatchet.

It is a strong knife, but let us both admit this: we didn’t buy them for any practical or sane reason 🤣. Did you see my video about the ADV Pittboss? Much less insane and slightly cheaper.

Interesting test, but i think that lock is a really Gimmick for Collectors and not for hard working.

I enjoyed these tests. But I don’t care for the folder vs fixed conversations when it comes to tasks that fixed blades have an obvious advantage. I own T1000 knife cause it looks bad-ass. The spine whack test is a little disappointing but this knife isn’t for using so I can let it “slide.” We have Joe X destroying fixed blades. Maybe we need someone testing the limits of overbuilt folders too!

Thanks for testing this. It’s as I suspected. I just did a review of the t6000 and I put it in the novelty category. It’s not a hard use knife. Just an overbuilt one and I suspected the safety bolts doesn’t add any strength. Ive seen the dissembly video on jd cutlery and I think that there are too many small pieces next to the bolt. A pin across would be safer but that’s all doesn’t matter because cold steel exists. My super light cold steel colossus could decimate my t6000. I view it for fun. My cold steel rajah 2 is so excellent outdoors that I’ve sold all my large fixed blades because they performance worse than it. I kept smaller bushcraft knives though. This belongs with Chris reeve and hinderer as a “hard use” 😂 Actually with a frame lock, you can baton without the lock engage in an emergency

I don’t think anybody in their right mind would buy a knife like this to use in the real world. I think this is more of a collectible item than a knife to be used for camping. This is completely the wrong night for that. If.Reate is advertising it that it is a knife that could handle the real world that I think it’s wrong in their part they should sell this knife at half the price of asking..

@@freddybusa2006 I’m struggling with what you are saying, Sir. Do you walk around with your shoe laces untied? A design feature is there for a reason, anybody in their right mind would understand that the shoe lace ensures that the shoe stays on your foot, whether it’s a $300 italian designer pair or Walmart sneakers. This is not a feel good channel to help you justify a spontaneous purchase of an item that will NEVER become collectible.
