I always thought going to college straight out of high school was wrong. You can get a Masters or PHD in something and find out you absolutely hate the industry. It's so much better to find out what your good at/ passionate about and then pursue the degree towards that. I found out I have a passion for finance. I didn't even think about finance as an option during my "college age."
@ValFolarin8 ай бұрын
everyone knows that. The issue is finding what you are passionate about. For the vast majority of people, that takes time. You cant be expected to make a decision on the rest of your life in high school. You need time. And heres the kicker. The more time it takes, that time is all lost. It is like a chess player who started out as a kid vs a chess player who started out when they were 20. The difference in time makes all the difference. Even career wise. So the issue is not college or trade school, or picking the wrong college, it is understanding the right amount of time needed to make a decision on what you like to do.

There’s definitely a concerted effort by the media to push this narrative that “you don’t need a college degree” meanwhile every single person saying it has a degree 🤔 makes you wonder what the true intent behind it is? If a company is paying you to do a "test" or "some work" before offering employment, just know that is their way to get cheap labor out of you and not pay you a full salary and is under no condition to actually hire you full time. Instead, decline it and ask them more sales questions that put the ball back in their court to make them decide faster. "Oh ok great. I'm not able to do this test/work example you want however I do want to ask if there is anything that you currently have doubts about my ability to perform in this role?" Even if they say no, that's better than giving them free/cheap work instead of just committing to hiring immediately. Lastly, when it comes to remote work he's bang on the money about all the opportunities behind closed doors meaning you should be networking to ask about those roles and bring value through conversations so that you don't just have to apply for the jobs. Most people apply, a real pros network since everyone does just that. OH, and understand this. 2024 is going to absolutely change how we apply skills we need to learn because AI is about to dramatically accelerate what is needed and you want to start learning to make your own workflow with AI tools so that you can bring that up in conversations since it will be a major norm.

All of that while also dealing with the expenses associated with being self-employed, which includes having to navigate an income that constantly fluctuates. Job market gonna be the same in 2024 as it was in 2014 as it was in 2004. It's not what you know but who you know. People hire their friends/family, nepotism is very big. I'm ok if you hire family for a family business. But it becomes inherently unfair when your kids are 'artists/models' just cuz you were one back in the day. But your kids have ZERO talent. If they are good at it, then ok. But yeah a lot of ppl sleep their way to the top. A lot of ppl miss out on jobs due to bigots, sexists, racists, & preferential treatment. The world in terms of the job market is 110% CORRUPT! Good work if you can get it. You know that saying! IF YOU CAN GET IT! If it was fair we would not have the homeless and unemployment rate we have currently. ALSO people are UNDEREMPLOYED, underpaid, and working 10 jobs/side hustles and STILL scraping by! BARELY! Maybe hire more ppl FULL TIME so they don't have to work 10+ jobs to cobble a life together, and pay a LIVING WAGE. Affordable housing is nice too. So kids can MOVE OUT and start families. College isn't worth it anymore unfortunately. If you succeed and find a job, then you are now stuck in a corporate culture; paying off massive debts and wanting to quit after 6 months due to burnout. If you fail in finding an adequate job, then you have to apply for forbearance, followed by an income based repayment plan. This typically pushes your initial 10yr plan into a 20+ year plan. People do not have the resources to make extra payments on their debt and they don't even have the resources to save. The average kid graduating from college has to come up with a bare minimum ($63,000) per year in order to make median rent, energy, food, fuel, and student loans payments. That's NOT including savings or fun money. These kids are being turned into indentured servants.

Yep, only the dumb ones or those that have enough parental resources to do so. My own sister signed on for a 5 year bachelors degree in the Interior Design program. Her total will be $144,000 at 9%. I tried to speak softly about what she was doing and told her that it's going to be difficult to pay this money back with interest and all the job positions she was looking at had anywhere from 50 to 400 applicants. She said, "I'm two steps ahead of you!" Fast forward 2 years and she didn't know that she has to pay taxes on her program internship in Georgia and she's having a massive amount of cognitive dissonance. Being pampered children is the reason they sign onto these loans. They literally think that they don't have to pay anything because they've gotten everything else for free in life. Gen Z is the apology tour for Gen X parents and they act like it too.
