In my video I'm trying to help show anyone what to expect when replacing both park brake cables and the park brake shoes on a 1st gen Toyota Sequoia, and some tips and tricks to help the repair

According to some diyer, the cable with the yellow tape is supposed to be locked into the slot above (4:00). It affects the cable tension for some reason. They put zip ties to attach it.

Have a tip to pass along to your channel. Had the same problems fumbling with those spring cups on my 07 Sequoia and wasting almost half the day . Then I found the perfect tool from Harbor Freight , their Upholstery and Trim Tool set #99739 , $15.99. The grips and strong blades give really good leverage and work great (much better then fingers) for getting underneath and holding the spring cups out of the way. Took me only a few minutes using them and worth the price . Love it when tools can multi task.

Or zip tie the springs and cut them off when everything is assembled

This is helping me a lot as I'm doing exactly the same thing on my 2004 Sequoia. Thanks for posting this very informative video.

Thanks!! For reassembly of the shoes, did you start with the spring retainers, the upper springs and space bar or the lower springs and adjuster?

My '06 is giving me issues with putting new rotors and shoes on. I just can't get the rotors on. Do you think I should make more slack in the line to take tension off the parking brake lever? People owning other makes and models (BMW, Chrysler, etc.) are saying to do that. Did you finish tensioning the cables before you threw the rotors on?

I believe you would need to adjust the park brake shoes all the way in to help make clearance for the rotors

Turns out the shoes I bought were the wrong size. Apparently the Sequoia has smaller shoes than the 4Runner, LX460, and FJ Cruiser of similar years. Looking at reviews across a few retailer sites, many have come across this issue. You remember what brand of shoe you bought?@@theman9764

Hi I have a 03 Toyota Sequoia to remove and replace the rear parking brake shoes do u have to remove the whole axle. I’m asking because someone told me to get it done they a take half of day because they have to remove a lot
@theman97642 жыл бұрын
You don't have to remove the axle but because of the design, it's a major pita to work on, so half a day is probably fairly accurate

The BS is Toyota assemblies the shoes on the assembly line before pressing in the axle, the spring access hole is under sized for the tools available that release the spring caps, the tool is suppose to pass through the hole, someone failed their job, of course those parking brakes will last longer than the car if you dont get a axle seal leak.

The parking brakes on Sequoias never that good anyway, not worth the hassle to replace. Putting in Park holds it good enough.
