Dr. Christi Pramudji in Houston Texas discusses how to prepare for and what to expect with the urodynamics test in a urology office. This is a common test done to assess bladder function, especially before considering bladder surgery. It gives very precise bladder measurements and information to help guide the urologist in surgical decision-making.

I am having this tomorrow due to a cystocele and a rectocele. Thank you for the information. I'm not shy and the test won't bother me as I a veteran of getting naked in front of medical staff. This will be my 16th surgery. I'm a pro. LoL I do like to be informed about what to expect because it lessons the anxiety of what to expect. I am having this done to see exactly what will be needed for my upcoming surgery. I haven't looked yet but I hope you have informative videos of a cystocele and rectocele surgery because you explained this procedure extremely well and I feel confident going into it. I've been told the surgery I'm having is horrible. I have had both knees replaced, three spinal surgeries, shoulder surgery, thumb joint replacement, hysterectomy, gallbladder, pylenidal cyst on my tailbone (baseball sized) and several more surgeries of lesser degree. I have done marvelously through all of them and I'm going into this one with a positive attitude. People keep telling me how horrible it is going to be but I think positive thoughts bring positive results so I'm hopeful of a great outcome. Please tell me I'm not crazy.

It's not that bad. It's mind set I was,grateful because I for the testing led to surgery and now I am free of bladder leakage. You couldn't have explained any better then you did doctor. Great job. Thanks ❤

OMG, there's no way I could do this. I'd rather die than to allow myself to be intentionally humiliated and tortured. Urology as a whole is beyond terrifying, this this takes it to a level that's unimaginable. If this couldn't be done in the OR, it simply can't be done at all. I'm freaking out simply from the video. No wonder older people are at high risk to unalive. Look at what we do to them.

If you are a male then I feel sorry for you. As you get older your prostate will begin to increase in size, hopefully no cancer will be discovered. You will have to have examination and test down and around that area. If it is cancer and you take that attitude you will die. If you are a female then there will be no children for you.

I'm in the UK and following spinal surgery to remove an arteriovenous fistula, i have 'sensation' that i need to go but no feeling when i do. My Urology Consultant wanted to do Urodynamic testing a year ago, soon after i reported problems following my surgery. Unfortunately we had bouts of covid and Doctors strikes which has delayed all this by a year. So thank you for an excellent explanation. I can't tell you the nightmares patients have when there's little information given to you when you have these medical words thrown at you via appointment letters, and the internet is awash with horror stories as soon as you try and investigate medical terms yourself. The only thing i wondered is if you 'leak' post Urodynamic procedure? I ask because i had a Cytoscopy procedure at the start of the year but they failed to tell me how much you leak after the procedure. Had i known i would have gone 'prepared' in advance.

I have a shy bladder and am afraid even if left alone I won’t be able to empty my bladder. It bothers me even knowing someone wants me to go to the bathroom so even if they leave me alone it won’t help. If I go in a public restroom and someone else is there I usually can’t go. I will wait until til they leave. It’s been my whole life and I am 85 now.

I’m super impressed that you are 85 and researching and commenting on KZfaq! Shy bladder does make the test very difficult. But we can still get some good data from it.

@@LifeSculptbyChristiMD I work part time as an auditor and my full time job before I retired was an executive assistant so was am still am on the computer all the time. Going through with this test anyway and hopefully will tell something.

@@debbieparra2756 I took the test this past Monday. They did not sedate me but did put something on me that was supposed to numb that area. I have a shy bladder and that was the worst part because when they had filled my bladder I was told to pee into the pot at the end of the examining table. Well there was no way I could do that even though I tried so the tech had me go into the regular restroom and pee into what they call a hat by myself. I prayed so hard that could do it and was able to empty my bladder. It’s not fun but you can do it. Let me know how you do.

Is this the 1st thing often done? Before a physical examination, like any at all? One talk about symptoms and this? Dr said 45 years and never heard my symptoms. Yet they're all over these videos and searches.

I had a urodynamics test 6/2024. It was miserable. Plan to go straight home. Take a big sanitary pad for afterward the testing. Take a thermos of water with you. Most importantly, figure out how to put an ice pack or a very cold water bottle in your crotch. PLEASE wrap the ice pack or cold water bottle in something that protects you from ice burns. If I could have put a popsicle inside me, I would have. PS. I got the idea for the ice pack from a lady that was given one after giving birth.

I am going to see urologist due to recurring UTIs. I’m obese and have extreme lymphadema on my body. Will I be examined on a chair or table. I’m worried I won’t be able to get on either. Thanks for your response!

Usually a table. Hopefully they have a way to help you up or a table that goes down. They must examine you!

You'll be in a chair that is slightly reclined. Your knees will be ok.

I'm a male and have had this test 3 times in the last 10 years. It's awkward because the tests are usually done by 2 female nurses and many times a resident doctor. So be prepared to be naked from the waste down for 30 to 40 minutes in front of a few people. The catheter in the rectum doesn't hurt, but the one in the penis does at least for me and after filling your bladder it's hard to pee in front of an audience also my problem is a neurogenic bladder from a spinal cord injury so peeing is difficult at any time. Overall it is a bit painful and awkard, also be prepared to have a bit of bleeding for about a day after the procedure. The test is useful and has helped me, if you're having one good luck.

I'm freaking out. Dr told me this was nothing. I found out what it was the other day and am very upset. One visit, no examination at all. I'm scrambling to get some sedative on Mon for Tues and to talk to the Dr on Monday. As I demand some explanation about what were doing, why, what he expects to find and what he thinks so far. It seems like they're meds that could tell us a lot in just a couple days. And I don't get why this is the 1st course of action. Before a prostate exam to boot I have trouble starting, voiding all the way and I think it leaks out my bladder but sits in the urethra without dribbling out. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes and I still feel some urgency but not enough to get any out but drips and weak streams. And def some left in bladder.

They don’t! Nurses are compassionate and nurturing. They have a heart to comfort and relieve suffering.

I have worked in hospital and nursing facilities. I have several nurses in my family and am friends with even more. I have never saw a nurse laugh at someone in pain. My daughter in law is an LPN and she has a heart of servitude and she routinely comes home with a heavy heart for her patients and everything they go through. She has even taken the ashes of her patient that was cremated and had no family. He asked her if she would make sure they didn't sit on a shelf somewhere in a room for people who have no family. We went and picked them up and handpainted a beautiful vase in his favorite colors and have him sitting on the shelf. She and we loved him. I do volunteer work as a visitor at the nursing home. I visit with residents who have no family and make sure to go see them especially on holidays when all the other residents have guests or family. Most nurses are very compassionate and caring people who went into nursing because they want to help people in their time of need. If they don't have a heart of servitude they don't need to be nurses.

@@me_chell_ebraw_ner6449 thankyou for ur reply.i may have been a little harsh with my comment.but it still doesnt make it any easier when we men have procedures like this and worse like cystoscopies while having probrably two nurses viewing our excruitiating pain.men are expected to show no fear.what possible comfort can you nurses provide while having a 20 in rod up our peehole.sure you women have same problems but at least you get same gender care.😏

@@me_chell_ebraw_ner6449 thanks for ur reply.i may have been a little harsh.but you people dont seem to understand how having two nurses present while treating us during painful procedures.obviously nurses have to do the exam.but we're seen as having to be macho and show no fear.what possible comfort could you offer us with a 20in rod up our penis.at least you women get same gender care where ur nurses can comfort a female.but us men are just expected to clime the walls in excruitiating pain while nurses stare and look on.😏
