WHAT TO FEED MUSCOVY DUCK - What My Back Yard Muscovy Ducks Eat / What do Muscovy ducks eat?
What to feed a Muscovy duck? My back yard Muscovies are free range, so they are free to roam from the Poultry coop through to the garden. This means they can eat grass, leave and some plants; they forage for worms, bugs, flies, snails, slugs, spiders and the occasional frog. Small Lizards, Snakes and Mice would also be fair game.
Greens are a huge part of the Muscovy duck diet. Over the years of having free range ducks, my supply of grass has diminished considerably, so I grow greens in the vegetable garden for both my family and my birds. I put the greens in a pool of water to keep them fresh and clean while they are being eaten. This is especially important in the super hot weather; fresh crunchy leaves are way more popular than wilted leaves.

My father had these ducks, and his geese had respect for them. They are good to remove snails and mice! My father often found dead mice in their (the ducks) cage, in the morning when he checked up on them. And they are nice, quite animals.

I live in South Africa years ago as a teenager we crossed Muscovy hens with spurwing goose male and they hatched chickens

I get mine at Bunnings and other hardware stores sell similar, but they’re not as thick and sturdy for repeatedly emptying heavy water

I feed my 12 Muscovy ducks about 0.4 pounds of feed each a day, but they are not free range and have a 20 foot long pen, is that enough feed for them at about 2 and a half months old? They look healthy and I weighed one drake and he was already 12 pounds lol!

How are you going getting straw bales now. In Queensland, they've been extinct for many months!

I can still get extremely expensive straw bales, so I am only using them as bedding and then the bedding goes onto the deep litter flooring. I am hoping to source directly from a farmer in the future.

Ma'am what is the male female ratio? I have a male and 7 females is it okay?

Hi Fahad, that is a good ratio. I currently have 1 drake to 11 girls and he is managing fine. If I had 2 drakes that got along this would also be fine for 12 ducks. 1:6 is good.
