You mentioned all nice features to have on a boat, and I've had most of them. This video also shows how peoples wants/needs vary. I've owned boats since the early 1970's. My priorities have been; 1) having a place to run the boat comfortably, year round in all kinds of weather (pilothouse, and/or protected helm area). 2) a comfortable place to spend the night on the boat, year-round. 3) single screw boats. I've never had twins, so I don't know how to miss having them! ☺ 4) top-shelf electronics with back ups to the back ups. (they all will eventually fail). 5) every item on your list!

Well, my _budget_ is only allowing the 17' Sportspal canoe in the backyard, here is my wish list for a 24-36 foot boat: 1. Multi-hull, I love the deck & cabin space available on a cat as well as the stability and fuel economy. 2. Multi-engine, pretty much a requirement on a cat, but definitely desired on _any_ boat over 20'! 3. Dual control stations. Whether it's a "fly-bridge" or a station back in the cockpit, definitely handy! 4. STORAGE! You can _NEVER_ have too much storage space on ANY boat! 5. An enclosed crapper. Even if it's just a porta-potty, a little bit of privacy while "doing your business" is _ALWAYS_ a good thing.

I get your in florida but up here in the great white north of new york one of my top features on any boat is a cabin. Great for our stripped bass season which stretches into late fall and winter for warming up and getting out of the wind when we are chasing gish and unlike a center console gives you the ability to do overnight trips much more comfortably if your into that.

I don't use T Tops because I am not able to go under some of the bridges we have here. I do really love that tool box you guys have under the seat. I am going to have to make that for my boat. Great idea. I also like to add the water sprayer .....this would help with washing down the boat while out fishing to keep the blood and mud from anchor clean. Great video. Keep up the great work.

I picked a larger W/A and built convertible aft deck bench seating. I needed a longer range, stable, big family boat that could still be a serious fishing machine. The original 260C Sea Ox made an ideal hull because of its 10’ beam, large aft deck, and wake crushing 4 ton displacement. We run on Tennessee River lakes.

Id put one of those satellite trolling motors on my boat. They negate the need for an anchor and they now make them big enough for 30 foot boats. Id also put solar panels on top of my T-top to keep the batteries charged. I don't do any kind of fishing that would require a second station.

I would say more cabin space, a head and a fresh water sink. If I would buy a 24 ft boat or bigger, I would definitely go for a walkaround, something like a Striper 230 Walkaround. It’s a fishing machine yet also a nice weekend boat on the water. No need to rush back to the marina at the end of the day! Don’t you hate that? I sure do!!! Instead, just spend the night on the water and truly relax!!! That would be something if only I could afford it... LOL...

I just bought my first W/A, a ‘91 260C Sea Ox. It’s also my first boat with more than a 108” beam. I’ve ran longer boats, but the extra beam provides so much more usable space. The cabin ends up being gargantuan compared to a smaller beam boat. Having a full head instead of a tucked away porta pot is a sweet bonus.

@@ericdavi1231 Makes sense. I wouldn't want to run that far offshore with a single, just too risky, especially with an older motor. It's one thing if it's brand new, but it's another if it is an older motor. Before I repowered my whaler, I had twin 05 250 Verados with 1450 hours on them when I sold them, I never took them more than four miles out.
@ericdavi1231
@ericdavi1231 3 жыл бұрын
Benji Gans ... I’m in south Florida on the Gulf side, you don’t catch anything good until you’re at least 30 miles. If I was on the Atlantic coast of Florida where you only need to go 2-3 miles out to fish and dive, and can catch Mahi at 10 miles... I probably would have kept the boat.

@veemann3158
@veemann3158 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, the windlass is a really nice feature, my issue with mine is a seeming lack of power. it just seems I cannot get sufficient power to the windlass and I am considering a couple of potential options and am curious on your take. Option one is to install larger cables from the batteries in the stern up to the bow to reduce current loss, which sounds pretty expensive. Second is to mount a deep cycle in the bow specifically to drive the windlass, but that requires another battery switch AND cables to the bow to keep it charged (tho assume could get away with slightly smaller cables to charge than to deliver juice to the windlass?). There is also the issue of the added weight in the bow, and the potential for pounding the battery in a headsea. I guess a gel battery would tolerate that better, but once again we are talking a lot of expense, so, what's the best way to get sufficient juice to the windlass? My plan for this upcoming season is just a larger Deep Cycle house battery, and see how that goes. I have twin 2015 Honda 4-strokes so i am making plenty of juice from the engines. Generally what I have been doing is to take one engine out of gear, and run it up to about 1200 RPM to insure I am getting max juice into the system, but that doesn't seem to work that well either. Help BAB!

Consider an "Anchor Winch" set-up if you have the space. Was going to go with a windlass upgrade on my Pursuit 2470 until doing the research. Anchor winch all the way for me now. Better line management and less prone to the various "windless issues". Hope it helps.

You could have just sold the one you have. Use that cash, then add what ever money you were going to put into upgrading your old one and buy what you already want, already completed.
