Allah سبحانه وتعالى said, وَإِذَا أَذَقْنَا النَّاسَ رَحْمَةً فَرِحُوا بِهَا ۖ وَإِن تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَةٌ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُونَ And when We cause mankind to taste of mercy, they rejoice therein; but when some evil afflicts them because of (the evil deeds and sins) that their (own) hands have sent forth, behold, they are in despair! [Ar-Rum 30:36] ثُمَّ إِذَا خَوَّلْنَاهُ نِعْمَةً مِّنَّا قَالَ إِنَّمَا أُوتِيتُهُ عَلَىٰ عِلْمٍ ۚ Then when We have (rescued him from that harm and) changed it into a favour from Us, he says: "Only because of knowledge (that I possess) I obtained it!" [Az-Zumar 39:49] وَهُوَ ظَالِمٌ لِّنَفْسِهِ قَالَ مَا أَظُنُّ أَن تَبِيدَ هَـٰذِهِ أَبَدًا While in a state (of pride and) unjust to himself. He said: "I think not that this will ever perish." وَمَا أَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَائِمَةً وَلَئِن رُّدِدتُّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّي لَأَجِدَنَّ خَيْرًا مِّنْهَا مُنقَلَبًا "And I think not the Hour (Day of Resurrection) will ever come, and if indeed I am brought back to my Lord, I shall surely find better than this when I return to Him." [Al-Kahf 18:35-36] أَيَحْسَبُونَ أَنَّمَا نُمِدُّهُم بِهِ مِن مَّالٍ وَبَنِينَ Do they think that in wealth and children with which We enlarge them, نُسَارِعُ لَهُمْ فِي الْخَيْرَاتِ ۚ بَل لَّا يَشْعُرُونَ (That) We hasten unto them with good things. Nay, [it is a Fitnah (trial)] but they perceive not. [Al-Mu'minun 23:55-56] كَذَ‌ٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِلْمُسْرِفِينَ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ Thus it is made fair-seeming to the Musrifeen (extravagants beyond bounds) that which they used to do. [Yunus 10:12] وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَىٰ أُمَمٍ مِّن قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُم بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ Verily, We sent (Messengers) to many nations before you (O Muhammad ﷺ), and We seized them with extreme poverty and loss in health so that they might humble themselves. فَلَوْلَا إِذْ جَاءَهُم بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا وَلَـٰكِن قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ So when Our Torment reached them, why then did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened, and Shaytan (Satan) made fair-seeming unto them that which they used to do. [Al-An'aam 6:42-43] ذَ‌ٰلِكَ بِأَنَّهُمُ اسْتَحَبُّوا الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا عَلَى الْآخِرَةِ That is because they loved and preferred the life of this world over that of the Hereafter. [An-Nahl 16:107] وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَامًا أَإِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we indeed then be resurrected?" [Al-Waaqi'ah 56:47] وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم مِّنَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَدْنَىٰ دُونَ الْعَذَابِ الْأَكْبَرِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَرْجِعُونَ And verily, We will make them taste of the near torment (i.e. the torment in the life of this world, i.e. disasters, calamities, etc.) prior to the supreme torment (in the Hereafter), in order that they may (repent and) return (i.e. accept Islam). [As-Sajdah 36:21] وَمَا اللَّهُ يُرِيدُ ظُلْمًا لِّلْعَالَمِينَ And Allah wills no injustice to the 'Alameen (mankind, jinn and all that which exists). [Ãal-'Imraan 3:108] وَإِذَا قِيلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوا مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُونَ And when it is said to them: "Fear that which is before you (of worldly torments), and that which is behind you (of the Hereafter) in order that you may receive Mercy." وَمَا تَأْتِيهِم مِّنْ آيَةٍ مِّنْ آيَاتِ رَبِّهِمْ إِلَّا كَانُوا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِينَ And never came there to them an Ayah (Sign) from among the Ayat (Signs) of their Lord, except that they used to turn away from it. [Ya-Sin 36:45-46] وَلَوْ رَحِمْنَاهُمْ وَكَشَفْنَا مَا بِهِم مِّن ضُرٍّ لَّلَجُّوا فِي طُغْيَانِهِمْ يَعْمَهُونَ And though We had mercy on them and removed the distress which is on them, still they would obstinately persist in their transgression, wandering blindly. [Al-Mu'minun 23:75] أَفَرَأَيْتَ إِن مَّتَّعْنَاهُمْ سِنِينَ Tell Me, (even) if We do let them enjoy for years, ثُمَّ جَاءَهُم مَّا كَانُوا يُوعَدُونَ And afterwards comes to them that (punishment) which they had been promised, مَا أَغْنَىٰ عَنْهُم مَّا كَانُوا يُمَتَّعُونَ All that with which they used to enjoy shall not avail them. [Ash-Shu'araa' 26:205-207] وَلَوْ تَرَىٰ إِذْ وُقِفُوا عَلَى النَّارِ فَقَالُوا يَا لَيْتَنَا نُرَدُّ وَلَا نُكَذِّبَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّنَا وَنَكُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ And if you could only see when they will be held over the Fire! They will say: "Would that we were but sent back (to the world)! Then we would not deny the Ayat (Signs) of our Lord, and we would be of the believers!" بَلْ بَدَا لَهُم مَّا كَانُوا يُخْفُونَ مِن قَبْلُ ۖ وَلَوْ رُدُّوا لَعَادُوا لِمَا نُهُوا عَنْهُ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَكَاذِبُونَ Nay, it has become manifest unto them what they had been concealing before. But if they were returned (to the world), they would certainly revert to that which they were forbidden. And indeed they are liars. [Al-An'aam 6:27-28] وَلَن يُؤَخِّرَ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِذَا جَاءَ أَجَلُهَا ۚ وَاللَّهُ خَبِيرٌ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ And Allah grants respite to none when his appointed time (death) comes. And Allah is All-Aware of what you do. [Al-Munafiqun 63:11] وَلَيْسَتِ التَّوْبَةُ لِلَّذِينَ يَعْمَلُونَ السَّيِّئَاتِ حَتَّىٰ إِذَا حَضَرَ أَحَدَهُمُ الْمَوْتُ قَالَ إِنِّي تُبْتُ الْآنَ وَلَا الَّذِينَ يَمُوتُونَ وَهُمْ كُفَّارٌ ۚ أُولَـٰئِكَ أَعْتَدْنَا لَهُمْ عَذَابًا أَلِيمًا And of no effect is the repentance of those who continue to do evil deeds until death faces one of them and he says: "Now I repent;" nor of those who die while they are disbelievers. For them We have prepared a painful torment. [An-Nisaa' 4:18]
