What Trail Damage Will A Stock Badlands Bronco Take? Diaries Of An Off-Road Beginner!

So, I've gone off-road a few times this past summer. During that time, I've hit some rocks really,.. really,.. HARD! I was curious to see what kind of damage I had underneath my stock Badlands Bronco. We're going to find out together!

A good video to set people's expectations about going off-road. I think anyone that does any [even modest] off-roading, knows they're going to get damage of some kind or another. But people less familiar need to know they are going to get damage to their investment - and these Broncos are a big investment. One thing to be emphasized: it's important to do a good job cleaning off after heavy off-roading so you can check for damage. Driving around in a vehicle with unknown damage can be disastrous. Here on the East Coast (VA, WV, NC, TN, KY), pinstriping from branches is a big deal as well as some skid plate, wheel and undercarriage damage isn't unusual. I have a Badlands Sasquatch in Eruption Green and it's surprisingly resilient to scratching. I was surprised by that but then I have yet to really find myself in heavy, narrow trees. I've kind of resigned myself to periodically having to take it into the paint shop... :(

Agreed on all counts. Except I’ve decided to look past any cosmetic damage. 😅 After a few times, you get used to all the scratching sounds as you go through narrow paths between trees. …actually, you done get used to it 😬 but you do decide to just give into the pinstriping. 😅

I’ve got a badsquatch 2 door myself. It’s surprisingly well equipped stock. The only thing I’ve done to it so far is put braces on the tie rods.

One reason I’m glad I got the 2.3L over the 2.7: no cross bracing underneath, just right to the skid plate.

Ohhh. So that cross bracing that I bashed up is from having the 2.7? Do you know what the purpose of it is? Is it structural or for protection or..?

@@neverendingweekend I’m not sure of the details, but I think that bracing is an extra support for the bigger engine. Ive heard other people talking about bashing their’s up as well. You 2.7 guys have got more omph tho!

Thanks, friend! I took a lot of time thinking about how I would do it. I kind if miss that the lights don't hang as low as with the RTR bracket. It looked bad@$$. But really wanted a roof rack (don't know why 🤷‍♂️ lol!). Even TrailRax would refer to my project when taking to people about aftermarket lights on their rack. ☺️

Ford offers a performance power kit, 2" lift, beefier tie rods, and 37s if you get more serious off-roading. That additional clearance will reduce your trail damage.

@@neverendingweekend Just Google Ford performance parts for Bronco with those key words I mentioned above and you'll be good! I already got the power kit and it's incredible! Not to mention they offer warranty with installation when Ford does the install 😁

I’ve been trying to get some good footage of the actual off-roading but because I’m driving, you almost need a camera man. I got a lot of footage but it’s all pretty boring from-the-dashboard stuff. @@neverendingweekend As a Canadian were you eligible for an Off Roadeo? When you are going over obstacles be aware that loading the suspension greatly reduces your clearance.
