Do they hire new drivers out of school? Trying to see what company’s I can drive for.. I’m about a two months away from getting my CDL. Starting class in the 21st of this month. Hopefully looking to be hired before the end of October, when classes are scheduled to end. Fortunately I’m a good student and should be able to get through pre-trip and theory fast because I’ve done a lot of this in my own before starting class. So, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get enough drives in, hopefully earlier than they typically schedule them, in order to finish more quickly. Fortunately there are multiple instructors and only 10 students max per class!

@@theprodigalsun__get creative in truck stops, if you can park at the customer, otherwise your options are on/off ramps or look for nearby mom&pop truck stops as they’re usually less busy. But at the end of the day it’s a knife fight to get parking after 6pm. Drive at night if u can, or u can attempt to park at the paid parking section but be prepared for a knock at your door asking to move. Some places have real parking nazis that will call a tow truck on you if you park in reserved parking spots without paying.

Every job has it's ups and downs. Ups in trucking? You're alone. Downs? Stress/frustration due to traffic/construction/detours/weird small docks but mostly it's other drivers out there living their best life like nobody else exists. Cut you off, jump in front and slow down, refuse to let you merge or catch an exit, cross 3 lanes of traffic in front of you and run over the median to catch their own exit, run down the shoulder popping up next to you, you're trying to change lanes and nobody will let you go now the guys behind pop out and drive up next to you in the lane you're trying to switch to, its just great.

Just got into this at the beginning of the year. Yeah I've learned it sucks. I also have found out it's not sustainable for me because I can't maintain my house (I live alone). And not being home is a massive drain emotionally. I think the only options for me is to get enough experience to find a day cab job or change careers again. It's the second time I've had to do this just to pay the bills. The other frustrating part is, I enjoy driving and apparently I'm good at this job.
