Came to Canada from Russia in 2012, was already an educated IT professional with 5 years of work experience, went through school (2 year program just to be able to get the PR). Fast forward to today, I live in Florida making a descent living and owning 2 houses. Thanks to my Canadian passport, I was able to get here on TN visa as a Canadian citizen. Otherwise this would have been a lot more challenging.

This is great content, there are KZfaqrs that moved to Canada but have a lot of money and they are deceiving people by showing them their incredible huge houses and incredible lives, I hope that more people sees videos like this before moving to Canada.

I went to an international school in Singapore and I remember a representative from UBC came over to give a presentation to those who were interested in studying in Canada and I remember specifically that they placed a heavy focus on immigration. Compared to talks I heard from other university representatives from UK, US and Australia, the UBC representative made it a large selling point that if you graduate from UBC you have an easy path towards permanent residence and citizenship. Now, considering that people in my school came from well off households and did academically very well, it seemed like the main selling point to study at UBC compared to perhaps an elite school in America or Britain was an easier path towards citizenship, which was likely why most people who attended the UBC lecture if they weren't Canadian were nationals from places like China or India who have weak passports. While everyone I know who went to study in Canada is doing well, this is basically because they all went to top unis and have very well off parents. It's a shame that those who perhaps come from a lower income background and live in poorer countries get preyed on by certain bad actors for the promise of a better life.

Canadian here. My undergrad (engineering) had mostly Canadians but graduate studies are mainly international students for the university I went to. I do think foreigners get preyed upon by unis, so that is true. However, a lot of the students that come here are from well off families and expect to be handed everything like they are used to. The ones with hustle tend to do better. The economy hasn't been great the last decade or so and many Canadians are also struggling. The cost of living is outrageous now for us too. I have friends I've met that were international students (engineering) and I'd say most are doing alright. I do think the program and uni you study matters for job prospects. Also, I've had to move around to small centers for employment to gain experience. The major cities are more competitive for jobs and typically want more experienced candidates.

Hi! I am an Indian student as well studying at Alexander College, British Columbia. When I saw the schools website and social media all I saw was diversity but it wasn't until I started classes that I came face to face with the reality. 90% of the students are Indian here and diversity is like none. 5% would be Asian, 1% Latin and the rest is Canadian only faculty. I am yet to meet a Canadian student and I have been attending classes for 3 weeks now. That aside I was fed with the fake promises of getting a job easily as well but I have been unemployed for 1 month even after applying for 100+ jobs (mostly bartending as I have certification and qualification). I have also applied for other minimum wage jobs but no luck so far. For housing, I would say I got really lucky to get a place as soon as I came otherwise it is really hard as well. Still the place is 1 hour away from my college.

Canada needs young immigrants to pay taxes/CPP to our wealthy boomer population and to keep our real estate pyramid scheme going. I was born in Canada and want to have a family but it is not possible for me in Canada. I would love to leave.

I stayed and lived in Canada for 9 years since I was 14 years old. I left the country as I couldn't find any job availabilities that are attractive enough as compared to a lucrative job in countries like Singapore.

I came to Montreal in 2018. Got my PR in 2022 and I work for a big company now with a stable salary. It was a long, hard journey. International students should understand that the first 3-4 years will be unbelievably taxing, and that pressure usually forces you to build a skillset so that you can show how you can be of use to any employer. Many can't handle this pressure and I don't blame them, it gets tough and lonely and the winters are unforgiving(some go back, some perish in vices, and some find alternate professions). If you are someone on the brink, hold on, do what is good for you, and show up for yourself, going back isn't a failure, it's just part of your journey.

I came to Canada in 2014 to study in Quebec university, I landed a job before graduation and I’ve been working since. I even started a business while working full time. I’m now a citizen of Canada and my two kids are born in Canada. I worked very hard to get all this and I did my research before coming to Canada. Bottom line, you need much more than just education to succeed in Canada or anywhere else. Wasting your parents money hoping to become wealthy in a foreign country is a suicide mission.

In the era of interconnectivity and globalization the competition is throat-cutting everywhere. Basically you need to be upping your game all the time to gain that edge employers and businesses are looking for, something that sets you apart. Easier said than done, but one thing Max said, you have to fight for your place. That statement goes everywhere. Whether in Canada or anywhere else in the world. It's a dream, I've seen a lot of people make it. But that success came to them after insane sacrifices and struggle. It's a nightmare for a lot too, those who believed just going to Canada will be the beautiful end to all their life's struggle back home and everything will be handed to them on a silver platter.

Thank you for covering this painful side of studying in Canada. I would like to share my experience since I have been here since 2021. The school where I study is a legislated university where students can get a work permit after graduation. However, there is no diversity as they usually describe. Approx. 75-80 percent of students from India and Bangladesh are from other Asian countries. I have never seen local students. It is the wrong way to misinform international students who come with big dreams. Personally, I expected to meet a more diverse student community. Another issue is that job ads usually require so-called Canadian experience even though you have more than five years of experience in the same field in your home country. I am wondering how it is possible to gain that Canadian experience when they do not provide for us with some opportunity.

I think the best way to succeed in canada is to do a lot of research on your own ; go for cheaper schools ; go for strategic courses that would finally lead you to PR ; network while in school go for job fairs meet people ; check the school and the province ; every school would tell you that they have high acceptance rates etc Canada is a DIY country and process ✨

I'm a Canadian and I've met a lot of international students and I've become friends with quite a few of them (they are all amazing people). I always feel bad for them because how much Canadian universities rip them off by the universities here. Everything is more expensive for them and it always makes me mad because of how much they get overcharged

Yeah, you tell the truth! All of these are true. I'm not a student here just an International experience engineer, it's tough to find a job and it is hard to find everybody here to work for a serious and focused on a high qualities company. Canadian companies have bad efficiency. The government does not have a true long-term planning. The Parties just got the power to make their own famous.

Very nice video, ultimately agents are not bad but you should always remember how they make money. In Kenya, I went to some agents who say they are free but they get commissions from pretty expensive schools in Canada, from my own research I was able to find much more affordable schools and if you are serious enough I think you can apply by yourself. Doing a lot of research on where you are going, jobs available in that city and reviews are also critical.

My experience might be different. I came in Canada in 2011, did a bachelor degree in a small town of Moncton. Yes school was 10K$-11K$/year but housing wasn’t expensive. As soon as I finished, I moved to Quebec and landed a job in my field and since the I got every jobs I wanted so my experience in Canada has been really good! My sister who’s in Ottawa has the same experience as I. She landed a job at Desjardins when studying and got promoted as financial advisor as soon as she finished a month ago. I’m thankful about those opportunities to be honest. In a long term I’m planning to leave here. The only thing for me is that there’s not enough benefits working wise as in Europe (less vacation days, no restaurant ticket, etc..), other than that, I’m grateful.❤

I have Nigerian and Indian friends that enrolled in universities in the Philippines. They said the teachers are always present and they are smart and approachable. The tuition fees are cheap yet they received quality education. The only thing they despise is they always have quizzes and tests, and group activities. (They are nursing , med-tech, and medical students.)

I'm Canadian, born and raised. I'm so ashamed of my government. We promote immigration but treat the most useful immigrants that need to work the worst. Even doctors and nurses. Realistically we cater to the elites from foreign countries that are maybe laundering in real estate and neglecting those that have real skills and just need to be setup and then will provide long term gains in regards to taxes. This is a shameful business practice as there are so many that want to come here and not speculate but live a regular life in peace and harmony. On top of this the foreign agents are sketchy as well. I don't understand how trained doctors are driving ubers. It's disgusting. Let's fix this.

I'm a bit worried it won't get any better. Besides having to worry about paying any outstanding tuition, sticker shock is quite a reality for most, if not all, international students. When I came to Vancouver from Mexico in July 2021, I was immensely surprised by just how expensive everything seems to be in Canada; from general services to day-to-day transactions, I found it was pretty hard to save. I was lucky enough to get a good job after graduating from my masters program, but even then, it was hard to keep up with the rising cost of *literally* everything. I ultimately decided to leave Canada for good and, as a Mexican national, benefitted from the TN visa program in the US. I still reminisce how much quality of life I had in Vancouver, though, but no matter how beautiful the city is, it's just not that livable with its gouging cost of living.

Canada is quite hard for young students as studying and working is not easy. Nevertheless, Canada has become a very interesting opportunity for people already married as one can study and the other one works.

Came to Canada as an International Student in a small city in Northern BC. Graduated in 2017 (spent about ~$23k in tuition) and landed a job as a Software Dev making 60k. Became a PR the next year (2018) and bought my wife in (also became a PR the same time I did). Moved to the Lower Mainland in BC for more job opportunities. Fast forward to today and I make ~100k. Applied for Citizenship and will be taking the test in a few days. Once I get my Citizenship certificate, I'm flying back home. Canada is too expensive. Edit: For those who are missing the point of my message, YES, I am doing WELL on paper BUT despite all that, my wife and I are barely surviving here because of the high cost of living. I would say depending on what career you want and if citizenship is important to you there are other options. Few international students consider for example a college diploma in their preferred field. A diploma can be much cheaper than and ensure future acceptance to university. Yet a diploma in many countries have pathways from student to skilled migrant visa, PR and citizenship if you study an in demand occupation. Study load at college is usually lower allowing you to work part time to supplement your income. University can be pursued later with credits from your diploma and a discount if you have become a citizen (in some countries).

Canada long ago worked out that University entry was a backdoor means of obtaining citizenship. Other countries have also come to this deduction. If you are prepared to keep the nation's universities in business, you are welcome to come in. Don't forget to pay your fees!

This is such a heartfelt and honest video. Good job man! Everything you’d noted here applies equally to Oz 🇦🇺 I’m an Aussie who was making good cash and had a career many envied back in Australia. But I would expect immigrants from the UK or Asia in Canada/Australia to strongly defend their choice 😂 Weather-wise, Australia beats Canada - maternity leave-wise, Canada beats Australia hands down. Australia is pretty isolated compared to Canada …mostly because Canada is next to the USA. Australia is overpriced in terms of groceries etc. and the extreme weather in Canada makes life expensive. Many Canadians move to the US for a reason. Australia is terrible with family reunions and visas for parents etc. There is a reason over 1 million Aussies prefer to live and work elsewhere - including myself - I was fortunate enough to get my PR in the US.

I used to consider studying in Canada but I gave up on this idea because my home is just too far away and I cannot leave it behind just like that (I'm Eastern European). However, I still consider studying abroad so I do a lot of research online and I always, I mean always, stumble upon websites\articles advertising enrolment agencies for Indian students, and I would always be like why is this here? You know, 'cause I'm not Indian :D And the search engines usually pick the options that suit you based on your research history, location, etc. But only now I realized that I see those so often because there're tons of them out there..

I am an international student living in Ontario, all of this is TRUE, living is extremely costly, specially housing. However I think it is possible to success, possible but not easy. I live well I am a software engineer, however at home my quality of life was better. I can always go back but I have a Canadian passport to get.

🤔🤔 the experience as a international student is very subjective. Many people fail and many success really fast. The important to know if you want to come to Canada as a student is do your homework read and gather all the info to really know what you can face here, plan your budget and will be smooth and easy, and don't trust the agencies. I studied 3 years pay full price and I was working part time, didn't have to share room I lived plenty well even during covid. I graduated and I found a professional job super fast that even I was picking the company because many of them want me. Future international student don't worry ! it won't be easy but if you are prepare will be worthy 😊

In 2004 I wrote a somewhat famous article called 'Top 8 reasons not to immigrate to Canada'. In short, the Canadian authorities tried to destroy my life. They made it so that I could not be employable in Canada. So I moved to the U.S. in 2005 and then some years later I moved permanently to the Philippines. I am happy that so many years later videos like yours are saying essentially the same things that I did. I was ahead of my time. I will never go back to Canada. Not to live, not to visit, not even a connecting flight. Too cold, too expensive, taxes are astronomical, no freedom, no jobs, no opportunities, xenophobic people, too depressing. It has become the North Korea of the western world.

Think the Gov is getting some sort of kickback from Cdn colleges. My bro paid about 6K/Y for his semester at Fanshawe college, The same semester for a temp foreign student was over $24,000- Cdn, + accommodation, food, etc expenses, but never mind the college, The main focus is the easy transition to work permit >>> P.R and almost none of the Int students ever return home after graduation. He told me that almost 100% of the students were from India / China, so Colleges are targeting over-populated states to bring in as many young/English speaking ppl as possible. While other countries are supporting their own citizens to have kids and a family, Canada's liberals think this is is a great solution to an ageing population in Canada, Revolting sh!t, if you ask me..

Great video, in 2017 I went there, sold my car and leaving behind my life in my country and study and live a new life in Canada. How disappointed I was, I spent 6 months there, enough, to see the scam the country is, you spend a lot lot of money in education, certification and they get a high skilled worker working in their minimum wage jobs!!; then you see the unemployment, the weather, the house prices and live the rent prices!!!

We came to Canada last year and it's been a bit hard because we are a family of 4. The cost of living is way more than it was when we budgeted for it, it is unbelievable how fast it increased in less than a year. The job we have barely lets us pay rent and eat but I do have to say there are a lot of oportunities here. We moved from Peru since the social, political and economic situation were bad and it continues to worsen as I write this. We wanted a better life for our kids and Canada gave us the possibility, it has not been easy but considering everything it is much better than the turmoil in South America. The biggest difference is that there are jobs here in Canada and ways to improve if you really want to do so, some are dirty trade jobs but they pay well and that is what I am aiming for so I can make some money and get PR and then citizenship. I do want to stress that it is possible to make money here but you have to learn to save and invest it, rate of return on investment here is much higher than in Perú and if you play your cards right you can retire with dignity. Another option after citizenship is to go to the States too, somewhere woth low taxes and affordable real state. Buying a house in Canada is no longer an option apparently, it is way too expensive for too little.

I am an international undergrad studying in the US. I just wanna say your success depends on you. I don't know how it works in Canada. But if you fail in the US, you fail. They are not gonna pass you. I have seen a few international students fail last semester. I am pretty sure, the comeback is VERY hard once you fail. You need to pay money again, and maybe even have to take an extra semester. College/study is never easy. FYI, there is barely any international undergrad in my uni. If you are good at studying and determined, just believe in yourself

Thanks for this video man. Students here are crazy about having education abroad which is fine when it comes to top tier universities like MIT, Harvard, Stanford, HULT, London business school etc. But the problem is students settle for very average colleges which might not be worth it. When we tell them these things they behave as if we are the ones who are naive and we don't understand the world. Basically they they think we are dumb and radical thinkers because we dare to speak against these practices done by western universities. But here people are simply delusional, they are so breainwashed that even if someone says some slightest argument against western world they think of it as a taboo.But hopefully they find this video and maybe they understand what's actually going on.

I think a lot of universities in Canada, Australia and to a lesser degree, the US, depend on the higher tuitions paid by international students and out-of-state students. These higher tuitions allow them to charge their in-state students less. I think that the labor market size has to be factored into the calculation if you are planning on staying in the country where the university is located. Here are the statistics I pulled: TOP 4 destinations (2020 data) for international students and the current population of the host country: (1) USA 1,075,496 students, US population 2023 = 331 million (2) UK 551,495 students, UK population 2023 = 68 million (3) Canada 503,270 students, Canada population 2023 = 39 million (4) Australia 463,643 students, Australia population 2023 = 26 million. Canada has half the number of international students as the US but a little over 1/10th the population of the US, so if we equate employment with the size of the population (not a perfect match, but at least a ballpark idea) with the number of jobs available, then the chances of an international student getting a job in the US are much higher because the population (available jobs) is 10x that of Canada but the number of international students is only 2x that of Canada. I realize there are other factors involved - it may be easier for an international student to get into the university in Australia and Canada than in the US, but if I were an international student looking at going to college in one of these 4 countries, I would have done this research first before picking where I would go to school.

the planning starts when you are still in your home not when you are already in the country and when uou want help seek only either a Regulated Canadien Consultant or an Immigration lawyer and even then always double check for red flags and do your own research..that's what most imprtant the RESEARCH. I myself dealt with a greedy af regulated consultant in my country , the irony is he is truly a regulated consultant with the College of Regulated Consultants, he nevr verified my application nor even took a look at it he transfer all the work to his agents and only comes to collect the money..

im a nurse working in Qatar i always wanted to come over Canada but as nurse. Therefore i went to an agency who were trying to convince me to be an international student in order to go there and after 2 years i can apply for permanent visa and stay there. Fortunately, i planed carefully about this and found that will pay more than i should do. So i decided to apply for work permit and be nurse aid first, go there, and later i can apply for RN.

The answer is to go to a consultant who helps you make an informed decision, NOT an agent. However most people don't realize the difference, and choose the services of an agent, as it is often free or cheaper than that of a consultant. Remember when something is free YOU ARE THE PRODUCT..

I went to USA for my studies. I attended a few community colleges in Los Angeles and then a private university in Chicago back in 1990. My experience had been terrific. Nothing to complain about...smooth admission procedure, extremely helpful administration. Whereas I tried to get education in Canada first. I found the whole system very illogical and not friendly at all. So I went for USA.

I found that I had to pay 20K for 10 courses (1 year) + 10K for a Co-op internship that I struggle to find. The tuition fees are not well explained on my university's website. But what's infuriating is that I have to pay 10K for an internship in a company that might not even know my University.

The challenge to today international students is the expensive living cost across Canada. 20 years ago was far easier to live and earn good life. The house price is too high to afford it by even local Canadian.

I'm an electrical engineer graduated from Waterloo university. Unfortunately, a lot of agencies in foreign countries take advantage of students and their families by having them invest in an education system that is not recognized by Canadian government. All accredited colleges and universities are recognized by the ministry of university and colleges in Canada. They all have a registration number that must be recognized and if not, then it is not an accredited university. Often they are just an informal education system that is not recognized by anyone around the world. This scam has been going on not just in Canada but around the world for years. It's up to the students and their families to do their own due diligence before investing in an education system that cost thousands of dollars. There are some very ruthless business individuals who work in these agencies, as well as these educational facilities that are not recognized. My suggestion is for you to do your research before paying a single penny and do not believe everything you hear from the agencies.

Most debatable topic! It depends on individual characteristics e.g. age, hobbies, capabilities. It is not one-size-fit-all. Make a careful research before starting a journey.

Golden rule: Never trust an agent. Research and apply to colleges online by yourself. Know what you are getting into.

Having lived in Ontario, Canada for more then 30 years I have some perspective on this subject Majority of Canadian student go to UfT(science), Waterloo(Engineering),Queens(Commerce) and McMasters(Science) , I would not consider Sheridan as University There are 2 types of students aspiring for further studies in America/ Canada Majority of IIT students go to America for Masters Very few IIT students come to Canada for further studies The student coming to Canada apply to colleges, the degrees for these colleges have no value. Even students joining these colleges know that, they only join these colleges since they get entry to Canada Many such students drop out after 6 months, it works both ways for student and colleges. The student get a visa and colleges get revenue. I know of Students parent selling a parcel of land do that their children can go to Canada to follow their Canadian dream.

Please, if you're considering studying in Vancouver, think twice. Here everything is insanely expensive, and there's a HUGE housing problem. It is hell out there. I feel terrible for an international student who has to pay 1000$ for a room in Vancouver + food + bills, + tuition fees. Is it worth it?

I was one of those dreamers, I came to Canada 15 years ago and left my amazing career back home. I would say that 15 years ago Canada was still a promising country for new immigrants, it wasn't a walk in a park but it wasn't impossible to establish a new life and career. Back then I felt I was more welcomed, i didn't feel being descriminated. Fast forward to 2015-2018, I can already start noticing that the country political landsacpe has been changing, not sure if that was an effect of what's happening in the US. Then, the cost of living skyrocketed (especially rent), health care services is deteriorating, big cities are becoming dirty and homeless population is becoming more evident, people are not as tolerant/welcoming, Then the pandemic happened, everything just went downhill. Housing crisis, mental health crisis, rising crime rate and limited job opportunities. Studies said that for you to afford a $2800 rent in Toronto and still enjoy a good quality of life, you need to have a full-time job that pays $40/hour. I been living here for 15 years, instead of getting higher paid job (while I am grateful to still have a job), I am earning much lower than pre-pandmic.
