Chernihiv, located 100 km from Belarusian Gomel, came under fire from Russian troops in the first days of the war. For almost a month, the city was surrounded. At the end of March, the Russians blew up all the bridges. Since then, it was almost impossible to bring anything to the regional center, where electricity, heating, water, and connection had already disappeared. Evacuation of people was impossible as well. There are more than a hundred thousand residents in the city. Chernihiv was under constant shelling for a month, and its environs were destroyed almost to the ground. More than 350 civilians died from shelling, but many more died from a lack of medicine, food, and heat.
The defenders of Chernihiv not only prevented the Russians from entering the city but also did not let them go further to Kyiv. At what cost it was given, and how the city comes to its senses from the war, find out in the report of Nastya Stanko and Kolyan Pastyko.
