Would have been cool to see Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix in this collection, though unpredictable... What other games do you think would have been awesome to see in Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection?

I remembering a lot of people questioning why Shinobi 3 and not Revenge of Shinobi was included in the collection at the time, turns out its because Spider-man was in the game. but they re-coloured him in the wii virtual console release and have used that ROM ever since.

This collection is really great, but I hope Sega stops neglecting the Saturn.

Would've been nice if Sega had released collections of their best Sega Saturn and Dreamcast games too. Lots of those games are ridiculously expensive now.

The Sonic Classic Collection on DS from 2010 has Sonic 3 and Knuckles with lock-on. In fact, I think that was the last ever rerelease of Sonic 3 before the music licensing issues caught up to them.

Pretty astonishing how a OG Xbox, a 2001 console, running S3&K, via a homebrew emulator (NeoGensPlusGX), can provide a more 'accurate' experience than an official product from SEGA, on a much more technically powerful console. It just goes to show that the gaming community is much more passionate about these games, than the companies that officially publish/re-release them.

I honestly loved this collection for what it was. This was what got me into the classics and totally got me into Comix Zone as a kid. Nowadays I still visit it whenever I wanna play those games!

About my Streets of Rage 3 comment, in the original version, the Star Attack button allows you to use the different Star Attacks without getting a star. Here, since Star Attack is somehow labeled as Special in-game, the dev of this compilation assumed it's another Special Attack button, thus the 2 Special Attack buttons problem.

It might not be perfect, but it glad I got this collection, as it introduced me to games like Dynamite headdy, streets of rage, Ristar, and it was my first time playing sonic 3, cause I had no idea how to emulate games.

god this emulation was real amazing for me. I was disappointed that the collection didn’t include gunstar heroes but it contained almost everything else i would’ve wanted.

Sonic 1,2,3 and knuckles were on Xbox live arcade and if you bought sonic and knuckles it unlocked a special menu item to play sonic 3 & knuckles. It also allowed to play the other two locked on as I recall. But I still love the way they are on this collection too with simple menus and good response time in the games

This collection is easily one of my favorite of all time. It's SO good and really should have set the standard for collections to come, but many have come after and none have surpassed it.

Sonic's Pretty Good Genesis Collection

This game introduced me to Shining Force and Phantasy star (tho I did play the PSO games on Dreamcast as a lil kid) Alot of great gems on this old collection that alot of people still cherrish to this day.

gen z kid while my family had a genesis that i played sonic 1-3 and phantasy star on, this collection was my first experience with sonic and knuckles and playing through phantasy star 2-4 so i have great memories with it

4:20 this interview is talking about Sonic 06 and its in 4:3 ,because its was ripped straight of the PS2/PSP Sega Genesis Collection from 2006,they just re-used the interview from the old collection as a extra,that would explain the audio issues

I remember the first time the flying battery ship came on screen i was legit scared because i thought it was breaking my speakers.

I used to play this so much on my PS3 back in the day. In fact, I believe it was one of the first games I got for the system (it was nice that the game was dirt cheap by the time I got my PS3 in early 2011). Really nice selection of Genesis games, and the arcade and Master System bonus games were the cherry on top. Even with it's emulation problems (which I never noticed that much), it was a great collection to own. The lack of lock-on for Sonic 3 & Knuckles is pretty glaring however. How could Sega get it to work on Sonic's Mega Collection on Gamecube but not on the more-powerful PS3/360? It just doesn't make any sense. Anyways, great review as always, Frame. Keep it up, my man!

I spent a lot of time on Ristar. It's one of those games i replayed so much to get good at. It's a shame he'll probably never shine again.

Worth noting that the reason there's an interview for Sonic '06 is because all of the interviews weren't actually new, but rather the same damn interviews they made unlockable in SEGA Genesis Collection for the PS2 and PSP.

I still have my og ps3 copy of this game. I remember only playing the sonic games on this collection, I loved sonic 2 and sonic 3d blast on this collection. I wish the upcoming sonic origins collection toke ideas from this collection.

I actually never knew that Sonic & Knuckles' lock on stuff wasn't in this collection if you're looking for a place to purchase that currently, the steam version of Sega Genesis and Megadrive Classics has it, which as far as I know, was originally based off this anyways? you'll have to buy Sonic 2 Sonic 3 and Sonic and knuckles to get it all though. Also while I'm here, from what I can tell this has very similar content to Sega Genesis Collection for PSP and PS2, just a much smaller selection of games (I think about half not sure) From what I've played of that on PSP, there doesn't seem to be any sound emulation issues. Honestly despite that the library in that version isn't stellar in my opinion, I was really impressed with it. All of the games even run correctly when playing off the UMD which is a rarity.

I bought this on a whim from work because I wanted to be able to play some 16-bit games with my sister. Never played it much. Never knew about the locked games. After I figure out how to get my Gamertag to work on my 360 again I might come back to it. On a fun side note, my work still has new Greatest Hit copies in the secure locker. Shows how much video games we don't sell.

loved these growing up with a ps3, also remember most of these being too complicated for me to understand as a 7 yo, but still ahve the memory of almost every single one of them

The thing I'll always appreciate about this collection was that it introduced me to one of my favorite games of all time, Shinobi 3. I probably never would have been introduced to it if not for this specific collection.

I had a 6 game Sega Smash Pack on PC as a kid, but this was my primary exposure to Genesis games as a teenager. Tons of fun playing Sonic 3 and Gain Ground and Comix Zone. Looking back on this collection I’m disappointed I skipped on Beyond Oasis and Streets of Rage. With all of the Treasure games, Gunstar Heroes is notable in its absence. Having the Shining Force CD/Game Gear games would have been nice too.

Sonic Classic Collection on DS actually has S3+K AND Sonic 2 feat. Knuckles. As far as I know, it's also the last time Sonic 3 was physically rereleased. There's actually a bit to talk about with CC. The game was dirt cheap and super common, so it should be pretty easy to find today. Some of the options from Sonics 2 and 3 were scrubbed, so there's no 2 player mode and you can only access debug mode on 1, 2K Sonic and Knuckles, and 3K, but that last one is pretty

Always ignored this cuz I had so many emulation options at the time, but I had no idea about the extras. If the arcade ports were advertised I would've picked this up long ago.

I had this on the XBox360 and I loved it at the time, but I've been spoiled by the Sega Genesis Classics collection on the Switch. I can't overstate how convenient mapping fast forward/rewind to the triggers and save state/load state to the right analog stick are.

I think Sega should have Sonic 3 and Knuckles patched to use the beta music.

I never played this collection, but a long time ago, I saw a copy of it at a friend's house.

The solo Sonic 3 experiences are still good though

My favorite Genesis game collection, you get a lot in this game and some nice extras. Having the Arcade versions of Altered Beast, Space Harrier and the first Phantasy Star games are a nice extra. Would of been nice to been able to lock-on Sonic games with Sonic and Knuckles tho

I remember buying sonic genesis collection thinking it was a brand new secret sonic game called “sonics genesis” and was really disappointed when I realized it was just a collection of old games. I still had fun with ristar and sonic 3 though

This game was what got me introduced to mean bean machine I still love playing it to this day also yeah the sound emulation on most of the games in this compilation are quite interesting I knew someone was going to talk about the transition to mushroom hill to flying battery via that cutsence yeah the sound on that sence sounds very offputting but honestly It never really bugged me that much also I believe in the second half of angel island during the part were that green ship comes down and starts boming the island I think also shares the same sound emulation issues as the mushroom hill to flying battery cutsence has also shame how knuckles in sonic 2 and 3 aren't on here I would have loved to play those games on the ps3 also sonic classic collection has knuckles in sonic 2 and three and that's acutally how I got introduced to normal sonic 3 and knuckles as well as the lock on technology variations of said games such great memories

This was probably the best compilation of old school Sega games on the Xbox360 I wish they would have made one with random Nintendo games and called it Mario's Ultimate Nintendo collection and have Mario 1,2 and 3 and games like Mike Tyson's Punch out, Double Dragon, Contra, Castle Vania, Zelda, Metroid, Ninja Gaiden, Blaster Master, Ghosts and Goblins, etc.

This is one of my favourite games ever. It was the last ps3 game i ever got and it's the one that made get interested in retro games.

While I DO love this version of the collection, just on the 360 mind you, I think the collection on steam is perfection. Only because I can add the games I wanted via steam's workbench tool. So now I can add all those missing features, and add games that weren't supposed to be there and any compilation on the program.

The steam version of the new genesis collection actually has the locked-on variation as opposed to the solo games, it's the console versions that omitt it

Good buy for four dollars. I ended up buying the PS2 Mega Collection at a convention specifically because it had Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Nowadays I simply play the Steam collection, which I loaded up onto a flash card and used with the Atgames Legends 2018 model. Uses Genesis GX Plus, I think, plus a sound fix some fans sent in, so emulates pretty well (And the gamepads are very similar to Genesis knockoffs)

A big Miss opportunity to do a comparison video between Sonic ultimate collection vs Sega Genesis Mini since ultimate collection has a lot of sequel games but the mini has a lot of third party games and probably debate which emulation Does it Better.

It's missing Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles on the PS4 version! Beyond pissed!

The fact that the games list is one short of 50, Sonic 3 and Knuckles is missing and that Sonic and Knucles / Sonic 3 have large amounts of sound issues makes me think that they planned to include it but for some reason it didn't run correctly and they have to cut it out.

You can also still get sonic 3 and knuckles via the Vintage Collection on PS3 & Xbox 360. If you buy sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles. You will be able to play sonic 3 and knuckles via Sonic & Knuckles bonus content section. And if you own sonic 1 and 2. You can play Knuckles and Sonic 2 and blue spheres mini game via that same menu. it's also backwards compatible between the Xbox one and the series x

when i was 5 to 6, i had an old friend who has this game and we both enjoyed it! my favourites are: sonic 2 sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles. i wish sega genesis classics kept sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles.

All this needed was Sonic 3 complete. It cannot be hard to molf them together because they're the same game and old ones at that.

I love this collection, it was thanks to it that I met Sonic 3 that made me love Sonic.

This was my own way to play classic SEGA games despite the fact I never owned a SEGA console. Ultimate Genesis/Megadrive Collection is a absolute must for anyone who always wanted to play classic SEGA games and to understand why they were the Sonic to Nintendo's Mario. Even better is that you get more than just Sonic games, you get a good dose of SEGA franchises mostly those from the Genesis era. Should have had the original Master System Alex Kid game as that would have been extra special to unlock but with the 49 games we did get for this that included the 9 unlockable games, especially the entire Phantasy Star series from Master System to Genesis/Mega Drive era. You could say this was the majority of games that SEGA published when they were at their best. Missing some key SEGA CD and 32X games that could have made this collection better.
